Richard Marpole sent an update for A Day in the Lies of Inari Meiwaku

Hi all. Thanks for following A Day in the Lies of Inari Meiwaku!

There are two chapters uploaded onto the main page now. Please check them out and tell me what you think! I won’t be uploading Chapter 3 for a while because I need to focus on some serious promotion to get this book off the ground. In the meantime I’m taking suggestions on a particular scene over in the Inkshares Forum on a thread called Musical Bar Brawl. (Pretty much what it sounds like).

I also need to concentrate on finding the right artist to make a front cover for the book. I’m talking to a friend who may be able to help me out but suggestions are welcome.

But I’m still writing and I just have to say that the more I flesh out Inari’s story the more excited I get about writing this book! I can’t wait to introduce you all to characters like the reclusive, boneclad Owlman, (no, he is definitely not a superhero).  Or Honest Tom; one of Inari’s fellow immortals who may be plotting to rewrite all the rules of society or might just want to make a quick buck. I also have some scenes I’m really looking forward to, particularly the bar brawl with the band of Unseelie brothers and the bit when Inari demonstrates how to greet unwelcome guests using an open liftshaft.

Thanks again. Happy reading/writing guys.

Richard.

I have a few suggestions: Symptom of the Universe by Black Sabbath, Rusty Cage by Soundgarden, Under by Filter, Piece of Pie by Stone Temple Pilots, and Electric Worry by Clutch. Those are a few heavy songs, if you want one that’s really intense check out: Beyond the Wheel by Soundgarden. I used it in my book to describe a scene when a character goes through Cocaine withdrawal... incase you need an example of how intense it is.

"Bad Reputation" by Joan Jett is probably cliche but it works so well for this sort of thing.

The first thing to come to my mind was Johann Strauss’s "Explosions Polka" (it ends with a loud, dramatic "whumpf" that could be everybody else falling down) but you probably wouldn’t find that on a jukebox. So ... hmm ... "99 Luftballons"? That’s mostly fast-paced, but slows down to an almost wistful slow-motion for the final verse/assailant.

Hi all. I’m making solid progress on my first novel, A Day in the Lies of Inari Meiwaku. But there’s one key detail of one scene I’m having trouble with.
When working out how my protagonist, Inari Meiwaku, would get through a bar fight against a band of supernatural revellers I decided that she would set it to music. She tells a secondary character to choose a song from the jukebox and lets the music dictate the rhythm of the fight. It might not work in a real fight but she’s not human and neither are her opponents.
What I can’t decide is what the song should be. It should be jaunty, fast paced and fun with perhaps a little aggression to it.
