Caren Simpson McVicker liked an update for Bane of All Things

Howdy! Good news to share, and an opportunity for Canadian fans of Bane of All Things to put it on the awards map.

BoAT has made the Best Novel Eligibility List for the 2022 Aurora Awards. The Auroras are Canada’s annual English-language Science Fiction and Fantasy Awards. They have been presented since 1980 by the Canadian Science Fiction and Fantasy Association (CSFFA).

These are popularity awards. Anyone who is a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident, and a CSFFA member, can vote for their picks in any of 12 award categories.

How do you become a CSFFA Member?

Easy. Take an annual membership at the modest cost of $10 (that’s in loonies). Please visit the CSFFA Membership Page to create your account and secure your membership. This helps to pay the bills so that the Awards, and their annual ceremony, can take place.

Your deadline is March 26, 11:59 pm EDT

So, don’t wait! Once you have signed up, you can find Bane of All Things on the Best Novel Eligibility List.

There are 11 other award categories as well. As a CSFFA member, you may select up to five different works in each category (if you wish).

How to make your choices

Select works from the dropdown lists, which are sorted by title. If you want to remove an item that you have chosen, select the blank line at the top of the dropdown list. You must click the Update button at the bottom of each nomination form to save your selections. Your choices will be displayed on your nomination central page.

As the award guidelines state:

“You don’t have to nominate in all categories. Nominate those works that you enjoyed, because this is your chance to have your favorite works from 2021 on this year’s Aurora Awards final ballot. The top five most-nominated works in each category will be selected to be on the final ballot."

The awards ceremony is slated for Aug. 13. Even just having BoAT make that top 5 finalist list for Best Novel would be fantastic!

Cheers

Caren Simpson McVicker liked an update for WILD CONVICTION
A year ago today, I learned my novel WILD CONVICTION was a winner of the Inkshares 2020 All-Genre Manuscript Contest!

WILD CONVICTION is a winner thanks to you, Awesome Supporters, through your engagement with comments, reviews, nominations and pre-orders supporting this novel and my journey to publication of my first novel!!

So, where are we one year later on the publication and release of WILD CONVICTION?

I am currently writing some edits based on suggestions from publisher Inkshares that I received in mid-January 2022.

After these edits are read by the Inkshares editorial board, the next step should be the final polish edits, then onto the actual production for publishing!

When will you have the finished novel to read? I don’t know exactly, but my heart is hoping for less than a year from now.

In the meantime, I have posted the first 8 slightly-edited chapters on

    https://www.inkshares.com/books/wild-conviction

(Well, Chapter 3 isn’t posted, as it is the mysterious letter from GrandMama to Twilight. But remember, those who have pre-ordered or who still pre-order can received that “actual” letter with “magical” gifts tucked inside if you want it, so you receive Chapter 3 in that way.)

I also have a contest going on now based on these posted chapters to win gifts related to the novel.

Be sure to read my newsletter or subscribe to my newsletter if you don’t already receive it to find out more about the contests. You can subscribe at the bottom of any page of my website:

    https://www.marydezember.com/

I hope you enjoy reading those posted chapters!

And I hope that by reading them you continue to be intrigued to have this novel in your hands to discover the twists and turns of this story and its significance concerning our society past and present.

Caren Simpson McVicker sent an update for Henderson House

      Dear Henderson House readers,

Wow! A year ago today, Henderson House, won the Inkshares All-Genre Contest!

Thanks again to everyone who engaged with my project and helped me earn a publishing contract. What a difference a year makes:) The novel is so much better today than it was a year ago.

I’ve learned so much this past year about the writing process, the editing process, the publishing process, and my own personal process. I hope to have an update from the Inkshares team for you very soon.

Over the past few months, I have seen successful book launches for other authors I follow on Inkshares. I have walked into the Northshire Bookstore, my local independent bookstore in Vermont, and pulled these Inkshares titles on the shelf. I have seen Inkshares run promotions for these books on Goodreads. I have looked these books up on Amazon and Barnes and Nobel. This is real. This will happen.

Thank you again for your continued patience and support. In the meantime, I AM WRITING :)

With gratitude and prayers for peace in our world,

      Caren

        REVISED MANUSCRIPT SENT TO INKSHARES!!

        Dear Henderson House Supporters,

I hope your 2022 is off to a great start! Yesterday, I submitted the revised manuscript for Henderson House to the Inkshares Editorial Team. I read the novel from start to finish on Sunday and I’m very excited about the depth and clarity the developmental edits add to the story. Heartfelt thanks go out to a few trusted readers for helping me get this draft across the finish line!

The revised first four chapters are up on Inkshares, so if you’d like to read them, I’d love to hear what you think. Most of the meat of the editing came later in the novel, but there are some subtle differences in the first four chapters you might pick up on :)

What’s next? The Inkshares Team will re-read Henderson House and decide if the manuscript is ready to move to the next step (copy editing) OR they will send me a second editorial letter and request additional developmental edits and we will go through this process again.

When will you know? Well, that depends on when the Inkshares Team starts reading. Once the team begins reading, it will be at least a month before I hear anything. I will keep you posted.

What are you going to do now? I am going to drink less coffee and get back to working on the sequel Sequoya Road! I’m looking forward to having more time in the day to read other people’s books—just started reading the draft of a friend’s new novel this morning! So fun!

Also, I’m going to get serious about developing my own marketing plan. I will get great support through Inkshares, but I know most of the heavy lifting will be up to me.

If you’re not already following my business page on Facebook, please do. I’m at:

Many thanks for your continued support. We’re gonna hold this book in our hands soon, well, soon in publishing terms :)

        With gratitude,

        Caren

          Dear book supporters,

As the holidays approach, I wanted to update you on the novel. I have received my Editorial Letter from the Inkshares team, and it is chock-full of suggestions to improve the story. Since then, I have been diving back into the manuscript and working to bring it to the next level.

Many of you have asked, “When is the book coming out?”

Unfortunately, I can’t give an exact date. This is an iterative process with many steps (developmental editing, copyediting, marketing). But I can say that I am still working steadily on the book, and that it’s been wonderful to have the partnership of the Inkshares team.

In the meantime, I have been posting my nonfiction writing to my Substack: stephenharrison.substack.com

^ Check out my latest story if you’re curious about the “Birth of Wikipedia” NFT.

Once again, I wanted to thank you for your support of the book earlier this year. I am looking forward to staying in touch with you throughout the holidays and into 2022.

          Best regards,
          Stephen

Caren Simpson McVicker liked an update for Bane of All Things

            Happy Sunday!

Here we are, just two days away from the official release of Bane of All Things! Though my local Chapters Indigo locations (that’s our big bookstore chain here in Canada, for my American and overseas friends) may in fact be putting the book out on the shelf as early as today.

            THE UNBOXING

Yesterday was the Big Event at my house -- the official unboxing of my copies of the book from my publisher, Inkshares. I have posted that video to social media and you can view it here on Facebook, or on LinkedIn. This was my first time seeing, and holding, an actual print copy myself!

            GETTING YOUR PRE-ORDERED COPIES

Over the past week or so, you should have received an email from Inkshares to confirm your mailing address ... if you have pre-ordered print copies coming your way. For ebook copies, you will soon receive an email notification that your download is ready and you can choose the ebook format you prefer to receive.

If you have any other questions or concerns about your account and ensuring Inkshares has the correct contact details for you, please reach out to hello@inkshares.com

TUESDAY LAUNCH EVENT: Submit your answers for the prize draws!

Don’t forget, the virtual launch event I am hosting on Zoom, at 7 pm EST, on Tuesday.  Here is the link: https://bit.ly/3nZuswz

As I said last time, this is a fun event that will include prize draws with Jeopardy-style questions. It only takes one correct answer to be in the draw. Please submit your answers to me in advance:

            • >;;;;;;;;>;;;;;;;;>;;;;;;;; This European castle stands in for Dragon’s Claw Abbey – the “fictional” locale that is featured on the cover of Bane of All Things.
            • >;;;;;;;;>;;;;;;;;>;;;;;;;; This recessed cupboard for storing sacred vessels in a Christian church inspired the last name of my heroine, Josalind Aumbrae.
            • >;;;;;;;;>;;;;;;;;>;;;;;;;; This is the title of Book 2 in the series.

            Cheers

            Leo
