20 days remain to get 1000 Faces into the top 3 of the Nerdist contest

Yes, not long left! 1000 Faces - my near-future sci-fi novel (featuring creepy digital masks like those in the image above!) - is currently only 4 orders from reaching the top 3 of the contest and securing a winning spot. Your preorder could be the one that makes all the difference!

https://www.inkshares.com/books/1000-faces

Remember, the books which finish in the top 3 of the contest win. That means they receive an international publishing deal with editing, development, and marketing.

You can read excerpts from 1000 Faces right now:

I’ll leave you with some fantastic feedback that 1000 Faces has received already.

"Great elevated sci-fi concept! Can’t wait to read this one." - Tal Klein, author of The Punch Escrow (winner of The Geek & Sundry Hard Science contest)

"The second I read the description of Jenny Graham-Jones “1000 Faces” I knew I had to have a copy. That kind of dystopian, bleak-future vision of our world - where everyone wears a mask and all is never as it seems - is my kind of jam." - Joseph Asphahani, author of The Animal In Man (winner of The Sword and Laser: The Sequel Contest)

"1,000 Faces does exactly what all good science fiction should do: explore and aspects of society in a new and thought-provoking light. What happens when the internet is no longer anonymous, but the real world is? I can’t wait to find out. " - Evan Graham, author of Tantalus Depths

"If this were a movie, I imagine it stylistically looking like V for Vendetta. You can feel the character’s emotional conflict in the second excerpt. While the first excerpt gives a great look into the societal concept. I’m really excited for this one." - Ryne Drogemuller, author of Through The Ghost

Jane-Holly Meissner liked an update for Enter The Phoenix

The start of a new week. So many new followers for "Enter The Phoenix" I wanted to thank you all for keeping up with my journey and helping where you can with the Nerdist contest for Sci-Fi.

I wanted to give you all an update about the story. Almost 10 years ago I wrote the rough outline on a bus after doing something really stupid. I won’t go into details but I committed a crime. It wasn’t anything serious and no one other than me was hurt (emotionally). I paid for that crime and in many ways still paying for it. I was sad and depressed so I started writing. Much like all my stories it started in an odd place and grew from there.

Originally "Enter The Phoenix" was suppose to take place entirely in space, then when it reached it’s original climax when it was a short story i went further. Then it took another turn involving magic and time travel. Before I knew it it was all over the place. After six months of reworking the story I realized they all worked with the my Villain Autolycus. After those few months I started to rework the story and had to give it a proper start.

What I have posted now is the fourth version of the novel. I do have two others that better clarify what happens. You may be wondering why I don’t post those. Well, they are not typed out so to speak. I work an a typewriter first then I rewrite on the computer. This happens a few times. Not always but still it’s my process.

My main problem is not story format or story telling process, it’s more minor structure and word usage. I like many people suffer from dyslexia I’v managed it before. While I know the difference from "Too" and "To" "There" and "Their" my brain doesn’t always write them down that way when needed. Same with structure as you can tell from my rant. I’ve had three people help me especially when it comes to my short stories. However they don’t feel they can handle a novel.

I hope some of you can look past this and see that I just need help from an editor. That is the real reason I’ve entered into the contest. I may never win, but at least it will get my story out into the world.

So as of now I have the prologue and the first two chapters. I am editing an audio recording for the third because that’s where things start to get interesting. If I do not compete it by Friday I will post the written format that day instead.

Thank you all again for your support in my journey.

Jane-Holly Meissner liked an update for Space Tripping

      One last call to action...

First, let me thank you all one more time for everything you’ve done to support Space Tripping over the past year & a half.

Second, for those of you not aware, Dragon Con is one of, if not the largest, Science Fiction & Fantasy conventions in the U.S. And Space Tripping has a shot at getting nominated for "Best Science Fiction" book of 2017. But the only way for that to happen is if enough internet voices cry out in synthesized unity. In plain English? I’m asking you to follow quick & easy steps below. It will take you less than 60 seconds, and would mean so much to me. Thank you so much in advance.

      1. Click this link: http://awards.dragoncon.org/

      2. Click the "Nominate" tab

      3. Enter "Space Tripping" and "Patrick Edwards" under the Best Science Fiction Novel

      4. Submit your vote

      5. Become my bestest buddy forever.

      XOXO,

Jane-Holly Meissner liked an update for The Madness of Mr. Butler

        Short update, I promise...

In all honesty, it’s been a rough couple of weeks. We suffered a few terrible events in our family that led up to a great loss. I’m not going into great detail here, since this is a personal matter, but I felt you all deserved a good reason for why not much has happened over the past month.

BUT! There are good things afoot!

        1) I am a part of an arranged group of Inkshares authors, and we are all working together in order to polish our stories and make them the best they can be for when they arrive in your hands in 2018! I will give more details when I have them and when I am in a greater swing of things. But I assure you, this is a big deal.

        2) I am still writing other things, and I want to share them with you! I have started a website called Tall Tales Told (click here: talltalestold.com) and it is a blog of sorts. I wanted to get an author page going, and that might be a part of things in the future, but I noticed something about most author pages: there’s no writing. Tall Tales Told is laced with what I’m calling "embellished nonfiction." I am telling tales from throughout my life, but with necessary embellishments, allowing for the fact that my memory of events might not be 100% accurate. I see these tales as something along the lines of David Sedaris in terms of delivery. Also, there is poetry! And it is illustrated by the amazing Phil Rood! (Please check out philrood.com, because this man is incredible and you should be buying his work.)

Tall Tales Told is also on Facebook and Twitter, and I plan on releasing all things Mr. Butler on this website as well. I am putting it all up there for your enjoyment, and for free. I hope you like it. Thank you for checking it out.

That’s all for now. There’s much more, of course, but my brain and heart are a bit frazzled by this insane month of May.

Thank you all for the support. I love you all.

        -Michael.

Jane-Holly Meissner liked an update for A God in the Shed

Whoa... what a trip it’s been.

Before I get into that though, let me give you some good news. Better news than whatever I’ll be prattling on about.

So, have you pre-ordered A God in the Shed from Inkshares? You did? You’re awesome. In fact, you might have already received an email notification that your physical copy has shipped (if you ordered a physical copy that is. And you should have, because ooooh boy. Such lovely books. So, so lovely.). But let’s say you’re not into this ’waiting’ thing? What if you want to start digging into this tale of horror in a small down over this very coming weekend?

Well, you can. By the end of the day, the eBook version of A God in the Shed will be available to download from the site. .mobi and .epub will be available, as always. I sincerely hope you enjoy the book and that if you do, you’ll let me know. Review it on Amazon, on Goodreads. Send me a Tweet @jfdubeau. I want to hear from you guys.

          You’re my very favourite readers.

Which is why I put myself through Hell in order to sign all your copies of A God in the Shed. As promised, I flew myself to San Francisco on a plane leaving Montreal at 5:30AM, signed a bunch of copies as they were being packaged and shipped by the amazing Elena Stofle (with an assist from the dedicated Avalon Radys). Hung out and had dinner with Adam and then, at 11:30PM on the same day, was on a plane back to Montreal.

When I say I’d go to the ends of the Earth for my readers, I do not kid around.

Now please, enjoy the book. We’ve come this far, it’d be ashamed if you didn’t.

          JF

Such a pretty book... (note: Inkshares fed me cheese. They have won my heart once more)

Jane-Holly Meissner liked an update for Mushroom and Anchovy

            Greetings, Adventurers!

I’m here with a brief Friday update. Lots of good news today!

First of all, here’s a link to the Q&A and reading from Wednesday this week. I was so far out of my comfort zone doing this, but it looks like it paid off--we had plateaued at 13 orders for some time, and then, within a 24 hour span from May 31 to June 1, we got 10 orders! Amazing!

We have hit an important milestone as of this morning: we’re already at 10% of our light publishing goal (250 copies). We’re at 3% of the big goal, which is also a start, and I still believe we can get to it as we have a lot of time to do so. I’m going to be spending the next couple of weeks reaching out to different outlets in an attempt to spread the word. As well, Animaritime has offered to hand out some promotional material, and Mushroom and Anchovy will have an advertisement in the convention schedule, as well.

A little contest update, too: we’re down to 6th place, but we’re very close to getting back to 5th. The contest takes into account unique preorders--i.e., it doesn’t take into account multiple orders from the same account--and we’re only 2 unique preorders away from getting back there. I’m not stressing about it, though--the contest still has a long way to go.

As I said in the live vid, at 100 followers or 50 preorders (whichever comes first) I’ll post chapter 4 for your enjoyment. If you liked the silliness of chapters 1-3, you’re going to really have fun with chapter 4.

May your adventures be fraught with wonder and just enough peril to keep them interesting,

             K. M. Cooper
