Tony Valdez liked an update for Feyside

Hey all,
It's a Saturday, but not a lazy one. Shaking the dust off of long-disused video production skills and putting them to use working feverishly on a video pitch for FEYSIDE. Hopefully it turns out well. (If not, my employer is desperately burning the midnight oil cranking out SHANNARA CHRONICLES f/x shots, suppose I can always donate this stuff or something.) Trying to strike a balance between generating a visually interesting shot or two to differentiate FEYSIDE from other offerings and to hint to prospective readers at the worlds living in my head... and producing a quick 'n' dirty video that can actually be ready in a matter of days, rather than the weeks or months that actual pro quality work necessitates.
Meanwhile, I'm stretching a little on social media, trying to reach out more and present myself, my story and my novel to the broadest possible audience. Time (and that all-important follower count) will tell whether that's been a worthwhile effort.
I've tried to do some actual writing/editing work as well, lest those skills atrophy, and because despite the demands of this crowdfunding campaign thing the foremost goal is still hopefully a good book in the end, and chapters in the meanwhile for you good folk to consider and critique. Should have another one of those ready for your consideration shortly!
Lastly, haven't neglected the demands of everyday life - parenting, work, house n home, holiday prep, etc. While outside the scope of this update, activities like this are the mainstay of my day and the bedrock that enables everything else. Hopefully the joy and the satisfaction that I take in all of that comes through in the creative materials that I do send through to y'all.

Think that's about it for the present. Be well, keep the faith, and look for good things soon!

-Peter

As promised, I've started posting up Book 2 as a draft.  Going slow with it though so as not to have too many spoilers, so for now its only Section 1 of Chapter 1(though I suppose it does have at least 1 or 2 major spoilers in and of itself).  Careful readers will notice the complete absence of at least 1 of Book 1's major characters, and hopefully will also be wondering what the reason for that absence is.  Anyway, check out Book 2, currently titled "Exile, Hunted" and feel free to give me your thoughts, or even editing notes.  I've not gone through it nearly as many times with my editing pen as I have Book 1, so I'm sure there's still far too many errors.

      Wow, what a week!

First of all, let me give a huge THANKS to everyone who has already placed a pre-order. You have no idea how much it means to me! I will never forget my early adopters. You are the ones who took a chance on me, and obviously something with me or my writing resonated with you enough to click the button. That is extremely flattering, and I am so thankful for you believing in me.

A lot of the supporters this week were family and friends, and so I count myself a lucky man to be surrounded by so many wonderful people who rally around me when I need them. Even though I already knew you were amazing people, it's still such a happy reminder.

I was astonished to see my book hover in the top 5 of the Sword & Laser Contest for most of this week. I am in the company of some truly great authors. There is a lot of talent on this site, so that is also a huge compliment to be among their ranks.

Congrats to Joseph Asphahani for absolutely crushing the contest so far! He is completely deserving of it, so I tip my hat to him. Also, I hope that if I ever meet him in person, I say his last name correctly.

This contest has me doing strange things. I've started using Twitter, which is a different sensation for me (brevity is foreign to me). I also jump at every e-mail when my phone buzzes, hoping it's something novel-related. But most importantly, it has forced me out of my shell, which is a pretty thick layer to crack. Putting myself out there is extremely scary for me, so this is a bigger deal than you could imagine.

I'm also going to be a first-time father in May, and so I feel like this is probably the best time to focus my time and effort on something that is near and dear to me before taking on the role of "Dad" in five months. What a hectic (but fun) time! If you see me in person and I'm in a bit of a daze, please forgive me. I've got quite a few important things bouncing around in my brain right now.

For those of you who are following the novel, but haven't opted to pre-order it yet, I truly hope at some point I can convince you that this is a project worth your investment. If there's something specific you'd like to see from me or this book, please reach out to me and let me know. I am more than happy to answer questions or share with you whatever it is you want to know. The only thing that is off limits is the ending of the book. ;)

I am a few chapters deep, and constantly in a state of figuring out how I can make something better. Jacob's journey will be a bit trippy, no doubt about it. But I want the reader to walk away from the book with a certain degree of paranoia that perhaps something is always lurking in the dark corners of our world. Those small oddities we ignore could be part of something much greater.

As you may have noticed, Chapter 2 takes a bit of a breather after Chapter 1. This is before shoving Jacob further down a twisted path in Chapter 3 (yet to be seen by you). He isn't exactly a willing participate in anything going on around him, but he doesn't mind humoring something that might improve his current condition.

I plan on posting Chapter 3 on Wednesday. If I hit 25 pre-orders before then, I will post it at that milestone. It would mean the world to me to see this book's numbers start to rise again.

      Thanks again, and happy dreaming!

Hey Team! Thank you so much for your support. While we may have not technically reached our goal and the book won't be published at this time, I want to thank all of you fir your incredible support. Writing is my life and it was wonderful to be able to share a piece of my work with you. I will now be pursuing more traditional modes of publishing for the Chrono Club.

Today I sent out a few copies of the Chrono Club to readers who had expressed interest in reading the book even though it was not funded. If any more of you would like a digital copy of the Chrono Club email me at fallonwalker@rocketmail.com and I will send it to you.

Thank you guys so much. You're amazing!

So, it's officially official of the officialness. (I'm a writer! I use words!) I have turned everything into Inkshares. Now I do the waiting game and see what the Girl Friday Productions team thinks of the manuscript and prep myself for editing.

If anyone wants a copy of the manuscript I sent in, (since backers are totally able to get access to author drafts) just send me an email over to Crankybolt@gmail.com and I'll gladly share it with you. Maybe you can offer feedback as well before the final product.

My next step is to start tackling the creation of a website, look into starting my own Inskhares Syndicate with some author friends and start emailing conventions about tablespace.

Although, I secretly kinda just want to binge watch my guilty pleasure of iZombie and Gotham Season 2 for a day and feast upon the sweet smell of chilli being slow cooked today 10' away from me.

It's kinda like torture actually. I'm going to start gnawing on human flesh I'm so damn hungry.

Tony Valdez liked an update for It's All Fun and Games
            Hi Everyone!

This update has nothing to do with It's All Fun and Games.  Rather, it's about to HUGE things going on over at Inkshares that I think many of you will be interested in.

First, there's a new contest.  Sponsored by The Sword and Laser, this contest will award the top three entrants with a publishing contract, with at least one being added to the Sword and Laser collection.  It's been up and running just for a few days now, and I'd like to point out that I joined the Nerdist contest almost two weeks after it started, but still finished top five.  I strongly encourage anyone who's thought about getting their fantasy or science fiction novel published to look into this.  More info about the contest can be found here.

The second thing is the inaugural Inkshares review-a-thon.  Here's a shameless cut and paste from someone who wrote up the details:

On December 19th, all authors and readers are invited to leave reviews on currently funding Inkshares books using the Inkshares "leave a review" option.

Throughout the day we'll be hanging out on Twitter in the #InksharesReviews tag as we share our favorite book projects, answer author Q&As, debate the merits of astronauts with swords versus cavemen with lasers, and more!

Then, from 6 - 8pm ET, JF Dubeau and Paul Inman of the WriteBrain Podcast will be hosting a video livestream filled with author interviews, review readings, and live announcements of prize winners!

            Prizes?!?!

Everyone who leaves a review on December 19th by 6pm ET will be eligible to win one of our fantastic general prizes:

            • Sword & Laser Contest Winners Package - print copies of the six winning books from the Sword & Laser Inkshares contest!
            • Nerdist Contest Winners Package - print copies of the five winning books from the Nerdist Inkshares contest!
            • An immediate pre-order of the book of their choice for five winners!
            • $30 in Inkshares credits!

Readers: Peruse the "currently funding" books on Inkshares and leave as many reviews as you want on Dec 19th. You could even start up a "must-have" list of books to order in case you win a free pre-order or the $30 in credits!

Authors: Join our review exchange to leave three reviews in exchange for two guaranteed reviews on your Inkshares project and a chance at author-exclusive prizes! Email me at cara.c.weston@gmail.com to learn more and get on the list.

So that's the scoop.  Start looking around at books currently funding.  Give them a read.  Write up a review (or two or five or twenty), and then on the 19th, post them all up in a massive orgy of literary abandon!  Maybe you'll win some sweet prizes.  Worst case scenario, you make some folks feel good about the work they've put their hearts and souls into.  As far as worst case scenarios go, that's pretty damn decent.

            Happy December!

            Cheers
            Dave

Hello everyone! I would like to start off this update by thanking the people who have already preordered my book. That means a lot to me.

The second thing is that this book has been placed in the Sword and Laser contest so with your help I would like to get as many preorders as possible. Please recommend this story or share it with friends and family.

              Thank you!

                .

Hello Rebels! (And a special hello to Captain Jack Sparrow who is expressing how I'm feeling in a remarkably succinct way)

TGIO Party and Editing - Today I went to the Nanowrimo Thanks Goodness Its Over party, where there was just a tonne of fun had with my fellow Wrimo's. This was a reward for all the hard work we've been putting in, and an opportunity to do some marketing for the project. The minions will be minioning over the next week on social media, getting the word out about the book. Wrimo minions, I salute you! You make me feel so special about my little project.

Over the last week Finn and I have been rapidly editing the first ten chapters of the book, with a major re-write of chapter three. We've also got a couple of alpha readers who are happily tearing through the first third of the book. My wife (the high school teacher) got out her red pen and blasted through about eight chapters in one night. I think my teenage daughter is in heaven...pointing out all the mistakes her Dad made when his mind was afire with story. It's simply glorious that we have people around us who are so supportive.

I am reminded of something I read during Nano in an article somewhere. The most important thing about writing is that you write. Don't get bogged down in editing when you are writing because all those fizzing idea's that are flowing onto the page will disappear.  You're essentially shovelling sand into a pit to build sandcastles with later. It's during the editing phase that you take that sand, remove the cigarette butts and plastic tops of bottles and all the other beach detritus and really make something special....and I think we are. Despite the funny faces I'm pulling as I re-read the text and wonder if I was suffering from Caffeine induced dyslexia. Is it perfect yet? No, but it is a great improvement I feel on where we were even a week ago. Very shortly I will be uploading our amendments to the Prologue and Chapter 1. I hope you like the changes we've made to make the story flow better.

Sword and Laser & Prizes - When I had the price reset by the helpful Inkshares staff on the project to bring it in line with what everyone else was charging, I somehow lost the first six orders that occurred on the first day of the project. So we are officially over ten pre-orders on the project as of now and it's time to reveal the first major prize that Finn and I have agreed upon for people who are backing the project. Suffrage is the first book in a planned series. When we reach fifty pre-orders, we are going to draw the name of one of our backers and use that name for a minor character in the second book. We make no promises regarding the likelihood of said character surviving to the third book.

We also have another idea we are kicking around but isn't confirmed yet for another major prize. To my surprise, Finn's brother is very arty, as in, he makes a living from it. We are considering asking him to produce an original piece of art of an iconic scene in the book. If Finn's brother agrees, we'll get him painting up a storm and post details and a picture of it when it's finished.

Okay update over - back to the editing - stay cool Rebels and spread the word among all your scifi adventure loving friends about the project.

P.S. - There are very cool things coming that you'll see when more chapters are added. I can't wait.
