Jane-Holly Meissner liked an update for Storm of Fury

Hello again,

I’m going to try and get monthly updates out to you guys, but in truth there still isn’t much to report. No news is good news, right? Right. Regardless, if what I’ve been hearing is correct, then production of Storm of Fury should begin sometime soon*. I’d like to reach out and say a quick thanks to everyone that has stuck with me so far.

Thank you. Your patience and support is appreciated more than you know, and I will do everything in my power to ensure that you get this awesome book you helped fund. It will happen, I promise.

Regards,

Andrew Wood

Jane-Holly Meissner sent an update for Fae Child

    Hello backers and followers!

Sometimes when I am sitting at my computer in the early morning, finishing up the first draft of Fae Child, I still can’t quite believe that you all believed in me enough to back my book and secure me a publication deal with Inkshares under their Quill imprint. I am working hard to finish up the book and prepare it for editing. THANK YOU all, so very much, for your support and encouragement.

As you probably already know, I have a second book which I entered into Inkshares’ newest contest, a science fiction novel competition sponsored by Nerdist. While work continues on Fae Child, this contest is a fantastic opportunity for me to line up another book series for publication. The top three books will win full publishing contracts with Inkshares, and at least one will be chosen by Nerdist to join their own imprint, with all the publicity and support that entails.

Mutants: Uprising is currently in the top 3, and I would dearly appreciate your preorder to help me remain in the running to win. There are just 18 days left in the contest, and the rest of the contenders are beginning to up their game and creep up on the leaders. You supported me once, please consider doing it again!

If the contest ends and I do not place, I will not be extending the campaign to try to get to 250 orders and publication that way. I did that for Fae Child, but I don’t have the time to do another long crowdfunding campaign. Mutants: Uprising will return to the backburner and refunds will go out, while I finish up the edits on Fae Child and get the manuscript polished. (Even if I do win, Fae Child will be completed first, so do not worry on that front.)

Thank you so much for your continued support,
    Jane-Holly

What people are saying about Mutants: Uprising -
"Such a cool concept with unique execution, in 2nd person. Meissner is an engaging, creative author and I’ve no doubt that Mutants: Uprising will be a brilliant read."
    - J. Graham-Jones, author of 1000 Faces and Witherfist

"A brilliant concept promising inventive action, compelling characters and an exciting new world, with a unique 2nd-person narrative style. An automatic buy, for me." - Evan Graham, author of Proteus and Tantalus Depths

"X-Men is the obvious link, but the story also kind of strikes me as bring like a mutant version of True Blood. 2nd person POV is a novelty, and in this case well-written. Bought my copy, look forward to reading the finished piece." - Chris Picone, author of Kanimbla

"X-Men and Lovecraft. Two of my fave things in one book, also with a rather unique writing style, makind it stand out from other books I’ve read trying to do the same. Interesting and looking forward to seeing where this ends up!" - Anniken Haga, author of Artificial Generation

      18 days to go!

We are still tied for third place in the Nerdist contest, which is GOOD.

One preorder will put us into third by ourselves. This is BETTER.

Five preorders will place Mutants: Uprising into second place. This is BEST.

If you have already preordered: Thank you! I have an additional favor to ask you. Spread the word about Mutants: Uprising to your friends and get them to preorder as well! Anyone who likes the X-Men movies, or superheroes in general, will enjoy this book.

As the contest draws closer to the end, the competition is heating up. I don’t need 750 preorders to get a full publishing contract from Inkshares and put this book in your hands, I only need to remain in the top 3 of the contest, and you can make this happen!

      Thank you!
      ~~ Jane-Holly

Jane-Holly Meissner liked an update for The Fairy Stepmother, Inc.

              Hi everyone,

So it’s been a while since I sent an update. I’m hard at work finishing the book’s final third, and I’m almost done! Then, I’ll switch to editing mode so that I can send Inkshares a beautiful final manuscript. Thanks for your patience! I know this is a long process, and you may have hoped to have a book sooner. I promise I’m doing my best to make sure you get a really great book.

While I’ve got you here, I just want to remind you to make sure your shipping address is updated. If you bought an E-book, of course, no worries! But if you purchased a physical copy of the book, just make sure Inkshares has the correct address so we make sure your book gets to you. On a sad note, if you do need to cancel your order (although I hope you don’t!) you can email Inkshares’ customer service at hello@inkshares.com. I don’t know how they do things, but Elena is the best and will get you sorted.

As a present-because I’m so very thankful for your support-here’s an excerpt from the rough draft of Part 2! Don’t worry, I’ve redacted the spoilers.

              “Mom?”

Fanchon found me in the study the next morning, reading one of my father’s manuals. He was a proud chemist, not an alchemist, and as such, he thought it was ridiculous and pointless to attempt to turn any sort of metal into gold. It was not pointless, however, to occasionally put a shiny gold-like coating on something. Looking back, I suspect my father walked a fine ethical line.

I closed the book as Fan entered. Brass was probably the cheapest solution, but also the easiest to spot as a fraud.

              “How are you, dear?”

“Um, I’m fine. I was wondering how I would go about finding a dance instructor. It’s just that I don’t think I want everyone to know I’m taking lessons.”

“Oh! That’s right. Well, that’s not a problem. I can teach you.”

Fan started, open-mouthed and wide-eyed, like a giant gust of wind had almost knocked her off her feet. “You can dance?”

“You’re looking at a proud graduate of Ms. Arbuthnot’s School for Charming Girls. Besides, your father and I used to go dancing quite often. I don’t actually mind dancing.”

“But aren’t we going to need someone to do the man’s part?”

“You’re looking at a very tall graduate of an all-girls school,” I said. “Now, I think if we move some furniture in the living room we’ll have the space for this.”

Fan followed me into the living room, and we pulled the armchairs to the edges of the room and carried the coffee table to the hallway.

“I think that’ll do.” Besides, since I would be leading, at least she couldn’t ram my shins into the corner of the table. “One issue I noticed about your dancing is that you’re very stiff. We want everything to be more fluid. So when we put our arm out, for example—see how mine has sort of a bend in it?” Fan nodded and tried to mimic my arm. “Right, I’m not exactly sure how your elbow can go that way…” I tried to reposition her arm. “I think bend was maybe not the best word. We definitely don’t want to see a pointy elbow corner, we want it to look like our arm is curved. That’s better.”

              “That hurts! That’s not natural!”

“You have to get used to it. You probably have to build up the muscles. Now let’s start with a minuet, and let’s try to remember we want to be light and airy, like we’re floating around the room.” I sounded exactly like my dance instructor. “We’ll start here at this end. Other side of me. Hold my hand. Other arm out gracefully. Ready? Right—Sink. Left—Right—No, don’t sink yet—Left, now sink. Now right…”

              “I’m on my left.”

“What? We must not have sunk correctly.”

              “I did sink!”

“Right, but I think it wasn’t on the correct foot. Or possibly beat.”

“I never understand the minuet count.”

“You do a whole minuet step in two three-counts. It goes, ‘One, sink, three; one, two, sink.’”

“Yeah, I never do that right.”

“Well, let’s try this. Let’s get the pattern down first, no sinks.” We reset at the end of the room. “So let’s go, Right foot—feet together. Then left, right, left, together. Repeat. Right, together. Left, right, left, together.”

Fan and I minuet-walked the length of the room several times. “Was Dad a good dancer?” she asked.

              “He was excellent.”

“Did you like dancing with him?”

“I did,” I said. Right up until I realized he used every partner switch to seduce new lovers. I didn’t tell Fan that. “All right, we’re not going to add in the sinks yet, but let’s try to get the tiptoes correct. So the first step is a flat foot. Then when we come together, let’s just tap our foot, like this. Then left tiptoe, right tiptoe, left flat foot, tap. The flat foot isn’t so much a stomp. You can toe-heel.”

We were so intent on tiptoeing across the room, we both missed the knock on the door—until it had turned into a rather angry pounding.

              ...To Be Continued!

Thank you all so much for your support. I’m so excited to get you this book. If you have any questions, feel free to send me a message.

              Best,

Jane-Holly Meissner liked an update for Battle Flag: The Road To Hell

                  PREORDERS ARE OPEN NOW!

So the campaign is going to run for 115 days, from when you get this, but that’s no reason to wait! Battle Flag is also entered in the Nerdist contest, which ends on June 27th, so get your orders in early to help bump the book into the top 3. It’s a good chance to make a minor miracle happen.

I’ve helped out a lot of authors here in the past, as much as I can afford to, and could use a little help now. If this campaign fails to fund, or place in the contest, I’m likely to give up on Inkshares for getting it published and may turn to some other resource, or just let it sit around for a few years until I can achieve a little success with another project and spend some of that success on this. But that also means that my bigger plans for the series will probably not happen either, at least not to the level I had planned.

The next 20 days are critical to shift the odds a bit, so please at least pick up an E-Book even if you never intend to read it.

As a little motivation to get things going: If the book pushes into the top 3 for the contest I’ll release a short story that chronicles an important bit of Ramirov’s past. If the book places in the top 3 or funds to the 250 or 750 levels, I will draw one contributor, who is not a family or friend, who will be given the chance to rename one of the ships in The Road To Hell before it goes to publication. I’m not gonna lie, it won’t be a major ship because the editing requirements for say renaming the Rampart would be a nightmare, but I have one in mind and it will be notable. However, anyone who orders who wants to chime in on a character or ship name I will happily consider it and quite possibly use it in a future book in the series. But if the campaign fails all these lines of communicating ideas may dry up, because I’ll be too busy chasing new agents or promoting the book through something Amazon or Createspace.

So please, please, go grab a copy now!

Thanks for riding along with me.

Hey everyone! So the last contest I did this for I did one every Friday/Saturday and I was planning to do it this time as well but I recently found out some *very* good news from my publisher involving one of my works so due to having to shift focus there I am going to do these every other week. So the second edition should be this Friday!

I think this will end up being slightly better in the long run regardless as far as The Story So Far is concerned since last time I felt like I was repeating myself a lot trying to put out new content for stories that stay in the Top 10 for a long time or the entire contest so hopefully this will keep things fresh for you, the readers, and myself.

Thanks for the patience as I cook up this weeks edition, expect it Friday or Saturday night. Also thank you so much for the feedback!
