Matthew Isaac Sobin liked an update for Dax Harrison

Hey there readers!

Well, I said I’d have some updates coming for you soon. So guess what? I got updates. :)

If you haven’t already spotted me plastering these all over social media today, here are some progress photos of the artwork for the book!

These come courtesy of the artist, Jessica R. Van Hulle, who is in fact creating AN ORIGINAL OIL PAINTING for the book cover! Why? A) Because she is fantastic, and B) Because I am a crazy person and decided "go big or go home". She is without a doubt creating something that truly captures the old-school fanciful sci-fi spirit that I hoped for with Dax. Can’t wait to see the final piece! You can check out more of Jessica’s work at theladyjessica.com.

Also, while we still do not have an exact publishing date for the book, the editing team says we may likely be looking at sometime in October. I will keep you all posted as soon as I have more to share.

Until next time!

Matthew Isaac Sobin liked an update for Crow’s Gambit

There is big news on the Crow’s Gambit front! The book has been selected as the July 2017 pick for the “Break the Bechdel with Strong Female Characters Syndicate”. The syndicate comment was:

Patrick Tebbe’s Crow’s Gambit takes the reader into another world that is fascinating and realized. Luckily for us, our guide is Cassie--a smart, savvy protagonist who will pilot her way through both politics and alien interactions with a calm, cool and collected brilliance.

The interest and support of the Syndicate and its members is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    More to come soon...

Matthew Isaac Sobin liked an update for Disintegration

Hey, gang. Long time no update. The reasons are two-fold:

      1) There hasn’t been much to say regarding the book.

      2) I am bad at social media.

Regarding the first reason, I was recently told by Inkshares that there is a 50-book queue and my book is somewhere amidst. I don’t know precisely where, but I am hoping that it’s closer to the front than the back. What this means is that Disintegration not coming out soon. That bums me out and I hope it bums you out, too.

If you are bummed out, email hello@inkshares.com and tell them you want your MTV! No! You want your Disintegration!

However, if you’re over it by this point, I can’t feign shock.

      I’m hoping you’re not.

I’d much rather you clamor and advocate for the book. So much of any book’s success on this site is based upon convincing Inkshares that there is money in a title. The way we do that is by selling copies. So, please, if you can think of any science fiction fan in your life looking for a deeply thoughtful, mature tale that unflinchingly confronts humanity’s foibles, direct them to Disintegration!

Don’t be over it; despite the glacial process, the book continues to elicit effusively positive feedback from a wide variety of readers, many of whom are not even regular sci-fi consumers. It warms my cockles to know that, despite the publish date being amorphous, the book still has such vast appeal.

At this rate, I may well wind up providing everyone a copy of the manuscript before the book goes to press. If you’d like to join the ranks of those reading what they’ve already purchased, pipe up and I’ll furnish you with a PDF, too!

As for the second point, I really wish I’d some social media skills because, had I that hustle, had I joined the right contest, had I done this thing or that thing differently from how things actually went, perhaps I could have joined the ranks of "fully funded" books. It’s a category that includes books that have sold equal or fewer copies than Disintegration, but instead received that golden ticket treatment and were swooped up to the Big Time.

I openly admit my envy. I want to see my book come to life. I want it to be seen and read and enjoyed, and any other wonderful possibilities that might arise from its publication.

Someday, they say. I eagerly await it.

Matthew Isaac Sobin liked an update for Sorcery for Beginners

        Friends, Readers, and Sorcerers All,

This week has been a bit of an emotional roller coaster. First, Sorcery for Beginners was placed on NetGalley to solicit reviews. For those who don’t know, NetGalley is a website that gives out books to influential reviewers and readers for free, in exchange for honest opinions. Good reviews lead to positive word of mouth, which hopefully leads to sales.

So basically, my little word baby that I nurtured for five years and tried to raise as a decent manuscript has just been dropped in the middle of Times Square on a sweltering afternoon in July. Was I worried how people would respond to my earnest, adorably doe-eyed creation? It’s the Internet, you bet I was worried.

But then a few hours later, less than 24 hours that the book went live on NetGalley, the Inkshares marketing department sent me this:

Amanda Scheel (Reviewer) has just reviewed Sorcery for Beginners. To add this review to the book page on NetGalley, click here:
        https://www.netgalley.com/book/118069/review/418228

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

        Full Text:
I got this ebook arc copy for free from netgalley and I must say this is absolutely amazing! Fell into the world of magic and after reading this book, I didn’t want to put it down, even when I reached the last word. Such an incredible book, any Harry Potter fan will fall in love all over again!

Additional Questions:Would you purchase this book for yourself or a friend? Yes

WOW. Amanda, I can’t thank you enough. I know all the reviews won’t be this awesome, but these words mean a great deal to me. The fact that someone I don’t know enjoyed the book and finished it in ONE DAY is humbling and gratifying. As they say in E.T., I’m glad Sorcery for Beginners met you first.

Oh, and something else came in the mail yesterday:

For the first time, I held Sorcery for Beginners in my hand! My first reaction was how weighty the book is. It has heft, y’all. I think it could stop a bullet.

We have a couple more tweaks before we send the final final version to the printer, but this thing is real. It is coming your way. And no matter what kinds of other reviews come in, we’re already bulletproof.

Matthew Isaac Sobin liked an update for Monkey Business

Hello Monkeys! Great things are happening!

I’m going to tell you two really cool things right now and I will expand on them below:

          1. My new novel, Black Cloud is now available for pre-order. So please do that.

          2. Everyone you who pre-orders Black Cloud will get an audiobook of Monkey Business preformed by me. That’s right. I will send you a download link when you buy Black Cloud. No waiting, no strings. Monkey Business straight into your ear holes.

If that’s all you need to hear, then great. Stop reading, go buy Black Cloud and I’ll send you an audiobook. Nice doing business with you. If you would like me to pitch you a little bit more, I’m happy to do that. Let me tell you why this is a really, really good deal. You can pre-order a Black Cloud audiobook for $10 and I will give you an audiobook of Monkey Business. I would rather you spend $20 to get a printed, signed copy of Black Cloud AND a Monkey Business audiobook but that’s up to you. If you want to look at it the other way around: you are paying $10 (or $20) for an hilarious, audiobook AND you will probably receive a new ebook in the future. The worst case scenario is that Black Cloud doesn’t reach its funding goal in which case, you will get your money back and YOU WILL HAVE GOTTEN A FREE MONKEY BUSINESS AUDIOBOOK.

You literally cannot lose. It’s not possible to lose in this scenario. You will get at least one book and you’ll probably get two.

A few fun things about Monkey Business. If you’ve been a follower of the book but haven’t bought it or haven’t read it, this really is the way to go. It’s a book that was written to be performed. I really think you’ll enjoy hearing it because I really enjoyed preforming it. Also, Monkey Business currently has 80 reviews on Amazon with an average 4.5 star rating. It has consistently been in the top 1% of Kindle Action & Adventure books for the past 6 months. What I’m getting at here is I’m giving you a good book, you’re going to enjoy it.

As for the new book, Black Cloud, it’s not at all like Monkey Business and I think you’ll enjoy it as well. But don’t take my word for it, if you visit the project page you can hear the entire first chapter read by me. Just play the video on the project page and check it out.

Of, if you prefer, you can go directly to a sample chapter on YouTube. Just the sample chapter with no b.s.

That’s all for now. Thanks for reading. I hope you’ll support the new book. I will be very grateful and I’ll be happy to send you the hilarious, naughty, low-brow fun of a Monkey Business audiobook.

Matthew Isaac Sobin liked an update for Arch-Android

            My dear androids and gynoids,

            Thank you.

Thank you for following this project and thank you for pre-ordering if you already have.

We had a really strong start because of you. It’s been almost too good. Made me lazy. But I’m getting back on the horse. I don’t want to pester you, but I need you on my team.

Now, I get it, there’s so much time left! No hurry, right? You can get to it later. But there’s a few reasons why maybe you shouldn’t?

You all live busy lives and as the months fall off like so many cartoon calendar pages the deadline might slip by you.

            1. The faster we get to ’funded’, the less stress in my life and the less begging I have to do.
            2. If this gets funded fast enough and with sufficient enthusiasm, we can look forward to a swift production schedule and an earlier release date!
            3. And remember, if you pre-order and if you refer others, you are automatically entered to win a brand new KOBO eBook reader with original art on the back!

Sentients, the bottom line is that I need your help. I need you to be my army of ambassadors and to go forth across the known galaxy (y’know... Earth) and spread the word about Arch-Android. I can only reach so many people and yes, if every single one of you got one book we’d be all set instantly, but that’s not how the space station spins.

Thank you for your support so far and thank you for any help you bring in the future. I will be thinking up and adding more rewards and goodies as the months go by.

            Let’s make this book happen!

Matthew Isaac Sobin liked an update for Proteus

Good news everyone! Proteus has received the honor of its very first syndicate selection!

The Fantasy Syndicate has selected Proteus as their pick for the month of July. Why the Fantasy Syndicate? I...have no idea. Proteus is definitely science fiction, through and through. But I’m not going to question it! It’s a good thing! Plus, Proteus is an adaptation of Shakespeare, and Shakespeare goes hand in hand with fantasy, so...there. I found a connection!

Regardless of the reasoning, I am incredibly grateful and honored that the Fantasy Syndicate would consider Proteus a worthy selection, even from across genres. With the contribution of their support, we are within arms’ reach of the coveted 250 pre-order milestone: the one-third marker towards full funding.

More will come soon as I make more progress with Proteus, both in writing and campaigning. Stay tuned, and remember to keep telling everyone you know about Proteus. We’ve got a lot of ground yet to cover!

                  Wow - what a week.

Not Afraid of the Fall has been out for *almost* a week now and the support from you - my friends and family - has been incredible.

We had two successful book launches in Chapel Hill at FlyLeaf Books and in Asheville at Malaprop’s Bookstore. The local Asheville paper, Mountain Xpress also had this great piece! I was able to thank many of you in person for helping make this dream come true, but I want those to know that couldn’t attend how much your support means to me.

As the dust settles a bit, I have one last favor to ask (I swear). As this book navigates through the ocean of literature, reviews are necessary to stand out.

Please leave a review on Goodreads and Amazon!!! This is the only way for the book to reach a larger audience.

(Let me know when you leave a review so I can shower you with compliments and thanks!!)

Thanks again for your love and support and please reach out to me once you have finished the book! I would love to hear from you.

Matthew Isaac Sobin liked an update for The Walls are Closing In

Glorious news! The Walls are Closing In has begun developmental edits.

I received a thorough twelve-page document with insights, as well as several notes within the body of my manuscript, from the Head of Story Development at Inkshares, Matt Harry.

I was so pleased to read Matt’s feedback and suggestions, as he certainly seems to understand what I am striving to accomplish with this novel. I know that he and the rest of the team at Inkshares will guide me in strengthening the story, ensuring that all of you receive the best version possible.

Matt has worked on Tal Klein’s Punch Escrow, which recently signed a deal with Lion’s Gate, and JF Dubeau’s recently released A God in the Shed, optioned by Skydance. Matt’s own book, Sorcery for Beginners, will be out in October.

Check out a recent video with Matt Harry, discussing the development of A God in the Shed.

                    https://player.vimeo.com/video/224256631

Over the next several weeks I will be hard at work incorporating Matt’s suggestions, and then I will send the revised manuscript to him for round two. It also sounds like Inkshares has started kicking around some ideas for the cover. I will keep you posted on all fronts.

                    Until next time,
