Hello readers,
To my surprise and delight, Grimalkin rose to 3rd in its first week as an entrant in the 2018 Inkshares Horror Contest, but it’s down to 4th. I’d love your help in pushing it back into the top 3. To those of you who have already pre-ordered Grimalkin, thanks so much for your support. Also, Chapter 5 is now available to read and delves into the question of what’s scarier: mean girls or bloody squirrels?

Hi there,
just a little treat for you all...and a request for some feedback. Below is the new front cover, and a prospective blurb for the back cover. Feel free to comment on both, and if anybody fancies being a beta reader feel free to let me know.

With the Ripper conspiracy laid to rest, and the Louisiana Torso case closed; Sherriff Duke Lanoix and Detective Chandler Travis were enjoying some downtime with their respective partners.
But then Travis receives a call from Belgian Detective Jochum Hoog. A headless torso with eerie similarities to their recent investigation turns up in a canal within the medieval city of Bruges.
With a booming tourist industry to protect, and the threat of more victims, the Belgium authorities wanted the case closed. And fast!
Within hours Duke, Roxie and Travis are headed for Belgium. But as the body count grows their search leads them beneath the streets of Bruges where the investigation becomes personal…with devastating results.
After much agonizing, Grimalkin is now live in the 2018 Inkshares Horror Contest. A big thank you to anyone who has already supported my novel in progress (part of a planned trilogy.) I love these characters, including many you haven’t met yet and some you don’t yet know as well as you hopefully will someday, and I’m excited about the story. I hope the feeling’s mutual. If so, please hope me share these characters and their stories with the world. Wow, that’s really sappy. There’s also more death and mayhem in store, too!
Those of you who are in Montreal might be interested to know that the Montreal West Public Library will be hosting a Night of Mystery and Suspense this Wednesday, 24 October, at 7:30pm. I will be there, of course, along with John Kalbfleish ("A Stain Upon the Land") and Sheila Kindellan-Sheehan ("Where Bodies Fall", "The Courier Wore Shorts", and many others) to read, meet, and greet. Do stop by if you can!
Meanwhile, we’re at the halfway mark of the Inkshares Mystery & Thriller contest with "Cat’s Paw" in second place. If you enjoyed "A Gentleman’s Murder", I’m sure you’ll love "Cat’s Paw". Do check it out -- as was the case before, your support is what enables books like this to happen.
Speaking of making books happen, there seems to be some good stuff happening on Inkshares right now. I mentioned Z. Z. Traver’s "Gumshoe Rules" back when the contest started, and I still think it’s worth checking out. Aside from that....
"The House That Fell From the Sky" features a house that appears in the middle of the city out of nowhere. A bunch of people are set to enter and investigate, and you know that nothing good can possibly come out of it. A book trailer just went up on the page a few days back, and it gives a pretty nice idea of the sort of flavour and atmosphere we should expect.
For those of you who prefer epic fantasy, there’s "Bane of All Things". The tech level’s a little more advanced than usual -- they’ve got gunpowder -- and it looks like we’ll be dealing with some interesting questions about loyalty.
And of course, don’t forget "Cat’s Paw". Let’s make this book happen!

Good morning, everyone!
I meant to send an update yesterday but life happened so I’m a day late on this one. It is officially two weeks since Shadow King launched, so I wanted to just give a quick update on how things are going.
Book Reviews
A few reviews have started to come in on Goodreads and Amazon. The majority are 4 and 5 star, so that’s outstanding. However, I’d like to get a lot more! When you finish reading Shadow King, please consider leaving a review on one of the sites. It only takes a few minutes of your time and they’re really important for helping a book pick up momentum!
Events
My first author event at Tatnuck Booksellers went well. Small group but there were a TON of questions in the q/a part, and I really enjoyed that. My next author event is October 24 (next week) at Belmont Books in Belmont, MA. Event starts at 7:00 pm.
I’ll also be attending Arisia in Boston in January. More details to come on that!
Press & Interviews
I was interviewed by WBZ AM Radio in Boston for their "Women’s Watch" segment. The interview was taped and will be aired/posted in the upcoming weeks. I will share a link as soon as it is available.
Upcoming interviews include:
Once links to those or specific times are available, I’ll be sure to share that with everyone!
Future Work
I’m happy to say that progress on the ESCAPE Anthology (which will contain one of my short stories) is going well. The contributing authors are all in the process of reviewing the content, and I’m very excited to be included in this group of excellent writers. When production is finalized, I’ll be sure to let you know when the pub date is!
The Devil Inside is still in the pre-production queue with Inkshares. I am hoping that it will reach the editor in Spring 2019, but that will depend on how quickly the books ahead of it progress.
And, I am planning to kick off work on a new manuscript -- a follow-up to Shadow King -- during November.
That about covers the highlights for now. I’ll send another update when there is news to share!
Best,
Susan
