Thomas J. Arnold liked an update for LandFall

So I have some news.

http://blog.inkshares.com/post/153308043055/the-2016-list

LandFall has been nominated for ’The 2016 List’, which is Inkshares’ new (and inaugural) end-of-year contest to highlight ’the top-voted projects that haven’t reached full Inkshares.’ What that means is that, should I enter (which I probably will), I’ll be starting a funding campaign up for that in the coming days.

What it also means, is that I have to do a lot of work fairly quickly.

I’ll be the first to admit that I wasn’t expecting this, like, at all. The original plan for this was to start a campaign around June next year and to have a pretty big chunk of the book written before I even started. But this is an excellent opportunity to secure full funding for the book, something it needs to satisfy the vision in my mind. And it’ll be a long campaign, reaching well past the contest and into my originally intended timeframe to give it the right attention.

When the announcement came this morning I had maybe 5% of the story outlined thoroughly, and another 10% vaguely bullet-pointed. LandFall’s page had a 10 line description.
I didn’t have much.
I had a general idea of where it started and where I wanted it to end, but nothing in the middle. At the same time though, it was obviously enough to garner some attention.
But I need more. Clearly.

So, this afternoon I sat down, fired up ’Hamilton,’ and churned out a little over 1000 words of notes and scribbles that seem to have come together to be at least 3/5’s of a story. And it’s one I think I kinda like. It’s still all pretty general, and there are holes...chasms even...but things are a lot further along than they were yesterday.

Any progress is good progress.

Over the next couple of days, a campaign will likely launch, and it might be a bit bare in here for a little while, but I’m hoping to have that first chapter written this week. Or a version of it at least.

Keep an eye on that horizon.

You never know what you might see.

Thomas J. Arnold liked an update for Ghosts of War

    Update time!

As you can see, things were a bit disrupted again this week, but I solved a few logic problems with Ghosts that I’m really happy about. The thing with this read-through stage is that it doesn’t generate a lot of words. I’ve identified a few areas that need expanding, so words will come then, but for now it’s just tightening everything up.

You might have noticed the big blob of words for LandFall today. Well there’s a reason for that:

    http://blog.inkshares.com/post/153308043055/the-2016-list

LandFall has been nominated for ’The 2016 List’, which is Inkshares’ new (and inaugural)end-of-year contest to highlight ’the top-voted projects that haven’t reached full Inkshares’. What it also means, is that I have to do a lot of work fairly quickly. I’ll be the first to admit that I wasn’t expecting this, like, at all, and Ghosts will still be the primary focus until it’s done. So I’m taking the next couple of days to focus on LandFall and get it set up and then once that’s settled in, it’ll be back to editing Ghosts.

If you want to follow along on the development of LandFall, you follow it at the link below:

Oh! Before I go, I found a new thing hidden in the analytics that Inkshares gives us: It’s a heat map showing all of Ghosts of War’s readers. This really is a global book now, thanks to all of you.

    Until next time.

Thomas J. Arnold liked an update for Where the Sun Sets

You know the phrase, ’Don’t judge a book by its cover’? Well, Where the Sun Sets doesn’t have a cover. Which begs the question, ’If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?’ (You’ll have to read Where the Sun Sets to discover the answer, or rather, Vole’s answer.)

There are lots of ways to go about getting a book cover. But my hope is that this one comes from someone that it means something to. Someone who loves the idea of seeing their artwork, or the artwork of someone they know, on the cover of a fiction novel about a poignant love in a time-stopped world.

      So, I’m running a contest!

If the idea of contributing to book fabrication fascinates you, or someone you know, I invite you to take a look: https://www.facebook.com/Wherethesunsets/

      I promise, it’s a simple contest.

      1) Enter your image
      2) When the submission period closes (Sunday December 4), the internet will vote up a winner!

      PRIZES

      1) $150 Donation to Diyode, to go toward helping reduce waste while setting up a sustainable recycling business in Jacmel, Haiti*, made in your name.

      2) $150 Gift for your support and participation. Delivered in cash, or credit for Words Worth Books (your choice).

      3) Your art on the cover of Where the Sun Sets, sold through Inkshares.com! And (if enough pre-orders are made!) the possibility of having your art grace the cover of Where the Sun Sets, sold around the world (Amazon, Apple, Barnes & Noble, independent book stores).

Additional detail posted to Facebook, but if you would like more information or to chat about details, please don’t hesitate to ask.

I invite you to share my contact information with anyone that you think might be interested in participating! With just under 2 months left, I’m almost at 50% of my Quill goal (250 pre-orders), and any bit of love helps :)

Thank you for reading, & thank you for your continued support.

Thomas J. Arnold liked an update for The Talkers are Talking

          Hello everyone!!

I hope you are doing well and recovering from this crazy election! I also hope you had a wonderful Halloween and that all those participating in NaNoWriMo are having a good time of it! I’m doing my best to complete revisions of the second draft an am writing under jliggan if you want to add me there.

Lots of good news on the book front- had some great feedback from betas and hope to get the second draft out to some new ones within the next month. If you are interested, I will be paying a thank you fee of $50 to all betas.

Next, we have had major advancements towards finalizing our cover and are trying to decide pen names. So, in the meantime, I want to share it with the working pen name of the moment. The talented artists are a husband/wife duo (he’s an artist and she’s a graphic designer and they are both crazy talented) who are always looking for new clients. I can’t say enough about how professional, skillfull and just all-around wonderful they are. Their names are Annika and Ben and their website is: http://www.trustfundart.co.uk/

Without further ado- here are the two new covers we have been choosing between (leaning very heavily towards the one on the left, but open to opinions--please email me at jliggan@gmail.com or DM on Inkshares):

And finally...I got married a few weeks ago and thought you guys might like to see a pic from it! And maybe even more importantly, I was Dr. Alan Grant and my husband was Dr. Ian Malcolm for Halloween, so I’m throwing that in for good measure. Thank you all, as always!!

          Best,
          Janna

Thomas J. Arnold liked an update for Blue Water
I just wanted to say one last time that I am so grateful for everyone who helped this dream become a reality. Today is the last day of the BLUE WATER Inkshares campaign. After today, the book goes from "Funding" to "In Production." I know I’ve been silent for a bit since we hit Quill, but I’ve been making a few small changes to Blue Water to make it as great as it can be, and worthy of your support. I will continue to update you here as to the progress of the book, as well as release date information as soon as I know it. (I can’t say officially, but if I had to ballpark it, after all the "in production" processes are finished, it will probably be close to Holiday 2017.)

Thank you all for your belief in me and in this book. I hope you like it.

We won!! your girl Bad Medicine was crowned queen!

After the Inkshares contest was over, Crypt TV had to pick the winner between the top three books. The winner gets "Crypt TV branding and promotion. Authors in the Crypt TV collection will also have opportunities to develop their work into other media, such as movies, TV series, and digital productions."

The fellows at Crypt TV were  awesome and decided to include the three finalist in their collection, but there was one little lady who  was picked first. Bad Medicine: Slay it Queen!

You can watch the video with the official announcement here

I have to say thank you to all of you for supporting my crazy idea. If you supported my first novel, The Catcher’s Trap, you know that it will take a while until you get your copy of Bad Medicine, but I promise you it will be worth it. From now on, I’ll dive into working hard to give you the best book I can write.

                Friends

The Catcher’s Trap is out in the world and, hopefully, already in your hands. As you can imagine, releasing the book on Election Day, and on a week like we just had in America has been quite interesting.

Still, two days after the election, over one hundred of you came out and supported the release of my book. This past Thursday, the North Haven Barnes and Nobles was flooded with people attending my first ever book signing. It was beautiful and humbling. Fun fact, the mayor of Hamden gave me a proclamation on behalf of the town. I had no idea that was happening and it was a wonderful surprised.

If you missed me on Thursday, you can come and see me at the Hamden Public Library on Sunday, November 20th, at 2 pm. I will be speaking there as part of their guest authors series.

The next step in this thrilling journey is to get reviews. I need to get as many reviews for the Catcher’s Trap as possible in the next coming weeks. So please, once you are ready, go into the links below and leave an honest review. It doesn’t have to be long, just your thoughts about the book. Trust me your review will make a huge difference.

Thomas J. Arnold liked an update for Murder at the Veterans’ Club

As I write this, it is the final hour of Remembrance Day--Veterans Day in the U.S., and Armistice Day in the 1920s world of "Murder at the Veterans’ Club". It’s a solemn occasion, for remembering the sacrifices made in the name of one’s country. In Cape Town, South Africa, they began observing a daily three-minute silence from April 1918 onwards; this idea spread through the commonwealth and became, in 1919, an observed two-minute silence from 11:00 to 11:02 AM on the 11 November, the anniversary of the Armistice.

One minute for the soldiers who died. One minute for their families left behind.

To all the veterans out there, to their families, and to the families of those who are not coming back ... thank you.

On this occasion, we had an interview with Regina McMenomy of The Geek Embassy. Dr. McMenomy is the author of "Mothering: the Game", available for pre-order at Inkshares.

And, because it’s a day for remembering our veterans and because my background is in Architecture, here is a link to a news story about housing for homeless veterans in Kansas City, Missouri.

                  Let us not forget.
