Fernando Crôtte liked an update for Lost in the Fog

The calendar has flipped eight times since my last update, but I finally have some good news to share about my novel Lost in the Fog!

As mentioned previously, Inkshares is a small company with limited resources, and they can only put out so many books each year.  Most of you reading this update have already purchased/backed my book, and I wish you had a copy of it in your hands right now.  I submitted my final draft last summer, and my manuscript has unfortunately been collecting digital dust since then.

But I’m happy to say that Lost in the Fog is finally in production!

An editor from Inkshares (Mr. Ryan Quinn) recently did an excellent copy edit on it last week, and I got the opportunity to review it.  My job was to go through all his comments, answer his questions, and then either make changes or respond with “stet”, which means “let it stand”.  Then I had to review all of the tracked changes he made (mostly punctuation, formatting, and keeping the manuscript copacetic to the Chicago Manual of Style), and either accept or reject them.

Thankfully Mr. Quinn did not have many questions (I attribute that to the great job of my first editor, Ms. Caroline Tolley), and all of the changes he made were technical ones that I accepted.   But I still took about 6 days with the manuscript, figuring this is likely the last time I will be able to make any modifications to it (I ended up making some minor tweaks of my own).  I am very happy with this new and improved version of Lost in the Fog, and I submitted it to Inkshares on Friday.

Once a book begins production, Inkshares says the process is approximately four to six months to when backers (that’s you) will receive your copy in the mail.  Lost in the Fog still needs to go through another round of edits, a design pour (whatever that is), design updates, cover design, printing, and shipping.  I’d love if my novel could be released by Christmas, but to be safe let’s target January/February of 2020.

I’ll know more soon, and as the timeline gets firmer, I’ll keep everyone updated.

Thank you!

    Hello all!

I hope you are having a wonderful summer. Mine has been eventful, to say the least!

I have brief news regarding Curio Citizen--my previous editor is no longer with the company, so my manuscript is now in the hands of a new editor, Sarah Nivala. I am excited to receive their feedback and will keep you all informed as the editing process goes on.

In other news, my family and I made a big change this summer. We moved halfway across the country! I am now a resident of Kansas City and loving it. After three weeks, I’m finally feeling settled, and I’ve managed to make time to write in spite of the busy move.

I’m now in the process of preparing a fresh novel manuscript for a Twitter pitch event in September. These pitch events invite authors to write a short description of their novel within Twitter’s 280-character limit (quite the challenge!). If an agent or publisher likes the pitch, they’ll click that little heart button in the tweet to request more material. I’ve had moderate success with these sorts of events in the past, so I’m hoping this one will bear fruit. Wish me luck! As always, thank you for your interest and support of my writerly aspirations!

    Best,

    Katherine

I’ve been told that ebooks will be released on July 23rd. Physical books will following in the ensuing weeks. The reason? Because there are just so many bloody copies of my book that the printer needs more time. Thank you for making that the case. Thank you for making this box on my living room floor a possibility.

        Thank you for everything.

          Dear Followers and Supporters -

I have been radio silent for quite some time, but I do have news to announce regarding the status of Fae Child.

Since the book funded in March 2017, I finished the first draft in July of that year. After that my family and I had several life changes that stole my energy and attention, including becoming small business owners and having a fourth child. The THIRD draft of the book is now underway with a few small tweaks to accomplish before I send the manuscript in to Inkshares.

At that point I will find out when they anticipate the book being published - there would be a copy edit to do and a few other miscellaneous things.

I have a cover for the book well underway with a talented artist, Aliana Wong ( www.alianawong.com ) and I have updated the cover on the Inkshares site to reflect the in progress work. I am in love with it already.

I also have had a short story accepted into an anthology which should be published later this year. Here is the link to the announcement: https://writingbloc.com/announcement-of-the-stories-and-authors-for-the-upcoming-deception-anthology/

That is all for now! I will send out another update when I am sending it off to Inkshares.

Thank you all for your support and your patience,

          Jane-Holly

Fernando Crôtte liked an update for A Gentleman’s Murder

Happy Canada Day, everyone. 2019 is half over, and there’ve been a number of developments since my last update.

First of all, I’m pleased to report that A Gentleman’s Murder won the silver for Mystery in the 2018 Foreword Indies. This makes a neat little hat trick for Inkshares, with Jacqui Castle’s The Seclusion and Juliet McDaniel’s Mr. and Mrs. American Pie also winning silver in their respective categories.

A German edition of A Gentleman’s Murder is also in the works and set to come out in December this year.

Some long-overdue paperwork was finally completed with respect to the option for the TV rights, so I think I can more comfortably say now that that’s in the works, too.

The most significant update I have to share, however, is that I have since relocated from Montreal to Calgary, a move that takes me to the other side of the continent. I’m writing this from what should be my study for the foreseeable future, once the movers deliver all my stuff.

It’s a new life. Perhaps there will be Bovril.

            Until next time!

Fernando Crôtte liked an update for Curio Citizen

              Happy Two Year Anniversary!

Yes, two years have passed since the Nerdist contest in which all of you amazing, wonderful, generous people gave your support, both monetary and emotional, to help me and my book Curio Citizen.

So, I know you are all wondering, where is my book?

The answer is, yes, it is still on its way!

Writing the first draft of a book is the fast and easy part. The rigorous process of editing, revising, editing more, revising more, and then the steps of copy-editing and proofreading, cover design, printing, and marketing are all the difficult and time-consuming aspects of publishing a novel.

In my update last October, I let you all know that I completed my first big round of revisions after working with my editor, Matt Harry. I sent in my new manuscript at that time, and I’ve been waiting for feedback since then. Inkshares is a very small team with a tall order of books in production, so as anxious as I am to continue the process, and excited as many of you have expressed you are to read my book soon, I’m afraid a big part of this is a waiting game.

But, I have good news. The staff at Inkshares has informed me that my new round of feedback will be coming mid-July. Once that happens, I will send out another update with new information on how the process will be moving forward! I want to thank each and every one of you again for your generous support and patience. I deeply, deeply appreciate your kindness, and I will work hard to deliver you the best book I can.

In the meantime, I’d like to give you updates more often even if I’m in a waiting spell. Many of you contributed to Curio Citizen because of your enthusiasm not only for the book, but as an aid to help jump-start my career as an author. So in that regard, I would like to share a bit of what I’ve been doing for the past two years, and I’ll continue to fill you all in on future endeavors as time goes on!

Since the contest in June 2017, I have written 7 novels! 4 of them I consider practice drafts to better hone my craft as a writer and don’t plan on trying to get those published, at least not anytime soon. However, I do intend to try to get the most recent 3 of those novels published. I have been querying one of them to agents and publishers (another long waiting game for responses!). The other 2 are in the self-editing phase, and I am hoping to start querying them to agents and publishers this fall.

What is querying? It’s the first step to getting a book traditionally published. A query is a letter to pitch a book to an agent or publisher, sometimes accompanied by a partial manuscript. If the agent or publisher likes the query, then they might ask to read the full novel manuscript to decide if they want to become my agent to represent the book to publishers, or if a publishing company, to publish the book outright.

As you might imagine, querying is both exciting and terrifying to a writer! I’ve received a few rejections, but also a few requests for more material from various agents and publishers, so I’m developing a thick skin, while maintaining hope that a current interested party might want to publish my work! I write full time every day, so whether money is rolling in or not, I already consider writing as my career. I intend to work hard so I can be successful. And I have all of you to thank for getting me on the road to have my first novel, Curio Citizen, published. And hopefully, there will be many more published books penned by Katherine Forrister in the future!

For now, I leave you with my gratitude and best wishes for an amazing summer! Keep your ears open for my next update in July.

              All the best,

              Katherine

Meghan, what in the world have you been up to?

I’m a glad you asked! At the end of December ( and I mean the VERY end) I submitted a second draft to my friends at Inkshares. Then, the next 4 months I was engulfed in all things tax. I don’t know what you personally think about the new tax law, but I can tell you for all of us in the tax preparation industry this year was a doozy. A "maybe we should get a different job" kind of doozy. Which is probably why I can’t remember May, my recovery month.

But, here we are nearly at the end of June. I have regained my zest and vigor for life.  I have new notes and suggestions on that second draft I wrote. So my course is clear: I will be re-writing for the next several months.

What can I say? Writing is hard. But, as my husband says, "Meghan, you do the hard things." Or maybe I just work harder, not smarter...

I hope you have a lovely summer. I will be tinkering away with the earnest hope that I will have more to tell you sooner rather than later.

And, as always, thank you so much,

                Meghan Godwin

                  Dear Readers,

On Monday afternoon, the publisher declared that they would be sending the final proof of the novel to the printer. They told me that to expect physical books on July 8th.

Thank you for being with me on this journey, either actively or passively. It’s been a long road, but the destination is nearing. In fact, I just saw a post from someone I know that it’s taken 6 years for her book to come to fruition, so it made me feel a little better that mine is coming about in under 4 years. Comparison may be the thief of joy, but it can sometimes ameliorate certain anxieties.

I’ll keep you posted via this and any other avenue by which we’re connected.

                  Sincerely,
                  Steve
