COVER ART!!!

I’m just going to get right to it and then gush. Behold-

Any hair stylist will tell you that finishing is key. You can cut the best haircut of your whole life, but if you don’t style it well when you are done, bleh, game over. I think the same holds true with writing. And, let me tell you, Eudaimonia has been styled!

Tim Barber (of Dissect Designs) has captured the darkly feminine and unsettling tone perfectly. PERFECTLY. I can’t tell you how excited I was when I saw this.

IT IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL THING I HAVE EVER SEEN.

    Hey, hey!
    Happy Summer!
I just got word that Eudaimonia has been scheduled for proofreading!
They expect to have the proofread manuscript back at the beginning of July! This will be small tweaks, mainly related to words and sentences. From there it will go back to our friend, the typesetter, to integrate the changes. Based on this timeline we are now anticipating a Fall release.
In the meantime, Inkshares gave me a tip sheet as homework. This is the information they’ll use to create a book page on retailer websites (like Amazon, B&N) in the upcoming weeks. That feels a little surreal. What, me? An author page for Amazon? Well, yes, actually. It is the next practical step. And the next step after that? *eek!* Putting together the bones of a promotion plan.
    Ever forward,
    Meghan Godwin

Meghan Godwin sent an update for Eudaimonia

A couple of weeks ago I received this email:

To say that I was ecstatic would be an understatement. I know that emails and PDFs are sort of a run-of-the-mill occurrence so why would I get SO excited about this one? Let me explain...over the last four years I have traded many Word documents with the folks at Inkshares. And everyone is familiar with how text looks in a Word doc. But when a Word doc becomes a book it undergoes a transformation. A typesetter takes that Word doc and manipulates it into a format that makes it suitable for publishing. I will repeat that last part for emphasis, SUITABLE FOR PUBLISHING.

That is right, friends! We are nearly there, almost to the goal line of an actual. published. book.

And, while this isn’t "final final" it is super gratifying to be at a place where I can glimpse this:

I mean, that is pretty cool, isn’t it?

So, Meghan, what does this mean for us? The folks who pre-ordered?

Let’s get your addresses updated at Inkshares. Head over to: www.inkshares.com and log in. If you have forgotten your password, just click "forgot password" to re-set it. In the right hand corner go to account -->;;;;;; shipping addresses. If you run into any trouble you can email inkshares for help: hello@inkshares.com

What if I want to pre-order and haven’t yet?  Eudaimonia Pre-order page

      When can we expect it?

I have been told "possibly" the end of August. But this is not a firm date. I will keep you posted as things progress. But, rest assured, all my pre-order folks with get their copy first. No cuts, no buts.

      Your friend,

      Meghan Godwin

How’s it going? We’re in end-of-the-school year mode over here as well as in prep mode for my sister’s wedding at the beginning of June! I’ve been busy writing for my local newspaper as well as the progressive local news site I’ve been working on.

Some exciting news! I was interviewed by Caitlin Tan for Inside Appalachia, an NPR podcast which airs on West Virginia Public Radio! This was such a dream come true for me, as I grew up listening to WVPR! You can hear the segment here!

Annnnd I got selected to be a mentee for the inaugural #kisspitch, a program that matches new romance authors with established ones! I’m so thrilled to be working with Jen Deluca, author of the Well Met series, to improve my ska romance, Pick It Up! Jen saw promise in my mansucript and we’ll work together on revisions! This is such a huge honor and many alum of similar programs go on to great things! Thank you, Jen, for taking me and my work on!

Reading-wise, I’m finishing up Nightbitch by Rachel Yoder and am getting into the middle of Patron Saints of Nothing by Randy Ribay. I also picked up the graphic novel, Daytripper,by Fabio Moon and Gabriel Ba, which is really great so far. What have you been reading lately?

Thanks as always for your support!

          Hello everyone!

I have not reached out through this platform in a long time, but the publication of Mission 51 is imminent, and I wanted to mention a few things.

First of all, my heartfelt gratitude goes to everyone who purchased a pre-order, especially those who did so during the Inkshares/Nerdist Sci-Fi Contest of 2017. Those pre-orders kept Mission 51 in the top 3 of all contestants and garnered a full publishing contract. Since that time, Mission 51 has been in production, progressively improving the story. It is now fully polished and ready for publication.

The publication date is February 15, 2022.

I am signing the pre-ordered books as we speak.

          IMPORTANT:

For those who pre-ordered here on Inkshares, like everyone did during the contest, it’s time to update your address. If you moved since that contest in the summer of 2017, you need to update your address with Inkshares so the book will find its way to you.

If you have not yet placed an order but wish to do so now, it remains available for purchase here on Inkshaers, and is also available on Amazon, B&N, Target…

Thanks again, everyone, for your support and your patience, and I do so hope you enjoy Mission 51!

Bane of All Things is away!

Launch day on Tuesday, Dec. 7 went well. Those of you who pre-ordered e-books would have received emails that day from Inkshares to download in the file format of your choice. For print copies, these are on their way. Being the busy holiday season for mail and parcel delivery, it could be another week or so before print copies arrive.

As a supporter of my original pre-order campaign more than two years ago, thank you again for taking that leap of faith then and for your patience in the long months since. I also owe huge debts of gratitude to everyone who further supported BoAT’s launch by spreading the word on social media in recent days, by reading advance reader copies to provide advance reviews and blurbs, and by graciously taking the time to contribute in other ways. All efforts are deeply and sincerely appreciated.

That first time seeing your novel on a bookstore shelf

While in town on Wednesday for my next round of immunotherapy treatment, we had to of course stop in at the local Chapters-Indigo to see BoAT on an actual bookstore shelf. (For my American and overseas friends, Chapters is Canada’s big national bookstore chain.)

A member of the store staff saw me posing this photo with my wife. When this lady learned I was in fact the author, she had me sign the store’s copies. And a gentleman promptly bought one to add to his collection of signed first editions!

My first in-store experience as an author, and it came about by chance. Which was awesome, considering no local bookstores that I am aware of are currently doing any formal in-store author events because of the pandemic.

A family friend later visited that same store and took this shot of my signed copies – thank you, Gwen C.!

What’s next? Bring on the reviews!

The release of a debut novel is a huge milestone. But it’s also just the first step from the starting line of a marathon. Now comes the grind of working to stand out from the crowd. It’s tough for any debut author to rise above with so many other titles competing for readers’ attention.

A vital part of gaining the attention of the book-buying public is getting a critical mass of reviews on Amazon and any other review sites you may frequent such as Goodreads.com. The more reviews a book has, the more prominence it gets on these sites to draw the attention of readers.

Stay safe, enjoy the holidays, and keep reading!

            Cheers

            Leo

P.S.: There is a Glossary at the back of the book you may find handy.
