Does any author like to write  a synopsis??
I certainly don’t, but I need  one for my second Maren Kane  thriller.  Do you have comments/edits on the below draft?  Please be brutal!  I have no ego investment in  what I’ve written here. I think the idea behind a  synopsis is to keep it  short and easy to read, but to  include enough (hopefully) tantalizing details  to  make someone (you!)  want to read the book! Maybe  there are other goals? Thanks  for  any  thoughts/suggestions you might have. Kris

Under The Rainbow (Working Title)

A Maren Kane Thriller

Maren Kane is tired of the ugliness and stress of working in politics. She leaves her position as a lobbyist and partners with her sister-in-law to open a state-of-the-art preschool and childcare center just blocks from California’s capitol building in Sacramento. Given the location and Maren’s connections, the city’s elite line up to enroll their offspring. The governor is among the first, securing spots for his four-year old twin granddaughters. But when Maren’s best friend, Polly, is wounded in what appears to be an escalating gang war, Polly’s 15-year old son, Jake, goes missing with the Governor’s twins, and Maren’s beloved father, who she hasn’t seen since childhood, shows up Maren’s carefully-laid plans for a more peaceful life implode! With her dad in tow she sets out to find Jake, desperate to do so ahead of a government team who views Jake as a suspect and his life as expendable. Maren uncovers a murder and kidnapping plot linked to police and politicians, reeking of corruption and violence, and finds herself thrown back into a world she had vowed to escape, this time with potentially life-threatening consequences.

    Be A Protector

’Protector: a person in charge of the kingdom during the sovereign’s minority, incapacity, or absence.’ - English history.

I’ve thought about this. I’ve thought about this long and hard. And I’ve decided.

Now, I’m not loaded. I don’t have an overflowing bank account. But after seeing your generosity in supporting my dream, I’m inspired to pay it forward. You showed me what it means to give selflessly, and I want to do the same thing too.

No, this isn’t about a giveaway. Though, the winners of the Salt x Paper cash vouchers are listed in the poster down below.

So, what am I talking about? I’m talking about... slavery. I’m no expert on this issue, but I’m aware of its existence. I’m aware that it has ruined lives. And if there’s one cause I want to stand by, it is this: the fight against modern day slavery.

There are approximately 36 million slaves in the world today. 50% are minors. And if you have $90, you can actually buy yourself one. This makes me angry. Children have been robbed of their childhood. People have been robbed of their rights. Families are torn apart. And for these individuals, living is meaningless.

I know... I am no Thom. I’m not a prince with a calling to save his people. I don’t have a magical aid. But I want to do something if I can. Hence, I’ve decided to give RM2 for every reader that pre-orders The Slave Prince to Change Your World.

Change Your World is a movement I’ve believed in for many years. Based in Malaysia, it exists to create opportunities and platforms for the young generation to ‘Save Lives’ through their creativity. This is as creative as I can get - telling stories. And if I can use my stories to stand for justice, then I should do it.

So, if you’d like to fight alongside me in this cause, pre-order a copy of The Slave Prince. I can only match two ringgit to a reader. But if you think it’s too little, forget ordering my book, reach out to Change Your World and support them. Saving lives is far more important.

Congratulations to the 5 readers above! Please check your email inboxes.

Again, thank you to everyone who’ve ordered The Slave Prince. The book wouldn’t have gotten this far if it weren’t for your generosity. So thank you for being awesome! And thank you for inspiring me to be a change in my own capacity.

There’s a month left in the Geek & Sundry contest, so if you’d love to see my book hit the bookstores, please grab a copy at your earliest convenience. It only takes 5 minutes to help this dreamer - only 5 minutes to change a life.

There was an article printed about The Last Faoii today. Check it out! Also, feel free to use the comment section to talk about your own experience with Inkshares. The article didn’t get it 100% correct, so I would like to have some more first-hand experiences from some of you.

      That’s it, faoii. Dismissed.

          Happy Friday!

I don’t know about you, but this week was exhausting. I’d say I’m happy for the weekend, but I’ve got to work on Saturday (part-time wedding photographer/videographer). It’s time to rally and keep pushing, both with this campaign and staying awake while interacting with humans. I find that when I get this rundown, I just got to focus on putting one foot in front of the other. I think that’s a good solution for a lot of things in life.

Campaign Update: We are 64 orders from making Quill! That is super exciting! We are still 5th in the contest. Help me out by recommending the book on Inkshares. It’s that cool black Recommend button next to those colorful social media icons at the top of The Living God page. While you’re there, why don’t you share on your social media as well?

And, this is really important! If you haven’t already, why don’t you leave a review? Its as easy as clicking the link right there and typing, "This book is really interesting! Check it out!"

Book Cover promotion is still going strong. If you haven’t yet placed a pre-order, and happen to need a flashy cover designed by a professional cover artist, a cover that isn’t pixilated or potentially going to get you sued for copyright infringement, I’m your girl. Here is just a PSA about copyright infringement. I point out the copyright thing because many authors don’t know that taking images from Google and using them in their promotions, whether as a book cover, a poster, or banner ad is illegal and it can really get you into trouble with copyright laws. I am part of a number of author web and Facebook groups and I can’t tell you the number of times I see copyrighted content being used by an author. This includes artwork found on Deviant Art (or any artist’s website). You have to have written permission (often a contract) to use artwork from an artist, and it often includes payment upfront or commission from book sales. Unless the artist is a friend, and then that is between you guys. Memes or GIFs are totally different and not included in this PSA, just images taken and passed off as belonging to some you or related to a work that you created, when in fact it was created for someone and something else. If you need imagery for your book or promotions I highly recommend stock photography websites. There are some free and some paid. My favorite free one is, I kid you not, Free Images.com.  My favorite paid one is Deposit Photos.com, it is reasonably priced. Okay, end of PSA and sorry, that made this update got pretty long, but I thought it was something that would be helpful to you guys in the future.

          Aleira Ritan

Aleira grew up in Adrid, on its border with Mavahan. When she was five her family tried to flee the poverty and civil war in Adrid as refugees, her family was slaughtered and she was captured during a border skirmish with Mavhan forces. Aleira was sold as a slave to a small facility that specified in training Champions and Challengers. Since she was small and frail, she was branded with the mark of a Sparring slave, and never meant to be anything other than disposable practice meat. But, Aleira did not die. She fought, she killed, she lived. She survived to become the reigning champion of the female Challengers and was later bought by the royal family and given to Xalen as a wife. She did not know Xalen’s kindness at the time, but saught to show him that she was no man’s property. She beat him senseless on his wedding night, which earned his respect as well as his admiration. They grew to love each other. After losing her child, Aleira vowed that she would make Mavahan pay and that, when the time came, every slave would taste freedom.
