Jane-Holly Meissner liked Far Flung: Castaways
The draft goes well - I’m looking at finishing this draft by mid-December. After that comes intense editing of the first few chapters so that I have more polished work to show off to readers while I work away on the rest.

Jane-Holly Meissner liked the forum thread, Pre-Order Swapping

      Hello Inkshares Community,

Elena here, your friendly neighborhood customer service representative, with a PSA about Pre-Order Swapping. In the past few weeks, we’ve received many notices of these types of actions. We want to address this now before it becomes a more widespread issue.

The goal for each and every one of the authors on Inkshares is not just for you to reach your funding goal, but for you to be a success on the market after publication. Books with broad reader interest sell better in places like independent bookstores, B&N, Amazon, etc.

This means that the whole, “if you pre-order my book I will pre-orders yours” trend isn’t allowed, nor is it a sustainable method of crowdfunding. It doesn’t promote broad reader interest. Relying solely on this method would require you, as an author pre-ordering other authors’ projects, to spend $2500 just to reach the Quill goal, which isn’t feasible for most people, and goes against the democratic nature of the crowdfunding model.

So here are our thoughts: if you have a genuine interest in someone else’s writing, you’ve read their drafts and you want to support them, that’s fantastic! If you make a deal with someone to swap pre-orders not on the basis of genuine interest in their work but solely to receive their pre-order, we cannot condone it. If you have any questions about this, please feel free to comment or email me directly at hello(at)Inkshares.com. I am always happy to help.

Additionally, please see our Terms of Service for clarification.

Thank you and keep writing the good write!

      Elena

Jane-Holly Meissner liked a review for Shadow King
Well-written and engaging from the very first sentence, Shadow King promises a new kind of faerie story - and best of all, it's set in one of my favorite cities! I can't wait to read the rest.

I highly suggest having her check out Google Fonts. All of them are free for commercial use. Font Squirrel also has some really great fonts for free. The key is to use them in high resolution so they are clean when you print them on a cover.

Jane-Holly Meissner liked an update for Deus Hex Machina

And then, all of a sudden, it was done.

The second draft of Deus Hex Machina is in the can.  At just over 75,000 words, this is the second book I’ve finished to this point, and the first that I did the edit myself. It’s liberating and terrifying all at the same time. I ended up with the same number of scenes as I began with, although only about 10% of the manuscript has remained the same as the first draft. It’s funny how these things work out.

What’s next for the book? I’m going to be sending it out to beta readers this month, and once I get feedback on it I will dive into a revision of this draft. My hope is the turn the final manuscript over to Inkshares by the end of the year.

But there’s an interesting wrinkle to this plan: The List 2016. As you know, DHM is in the running for the contest, and if I manage to win, then the book gets a full production treatment, including a developmental edit. While that would delay the process of getting the book published, it would also mean that it would be more polished when it is. That’s the dream, to have the best book possible and share it with as many people as possible.

The chance to win the contest doesn’t actually change my editing timeline really, but it does put a little pressure on the whole "sharing the book with as many as possible" part of the dream. Please, if you haven’t ordered a copy of the book, do so now. With only one month to go in the contest, I am sitting at 7th place. We have lots of new followers of the book since it campaigned a year ago (A year ago today in fact), and I can tell you that now that I am on the other side of this edit the book is better than ever. Like really good. Not perfect, but I’m very proud of how it stands right now.

I need 11 people to order the book to make it into 6th place. Please consider being one of those 11.

Thanks, and may the code replicate eternal.
