Robert Batten liked an update for Tears of the Assassin

      Dear Fans of the Assassin,

Today is the official publication date for Tears of the Assassin. As many are already aware, the book has been emerging on the scene with stealth and impact.  Immediate reactions from readers reveal that this book took them by surprise and hit them hard, with its gripping story.

If you have not yet received your pre-ordered copy, be vigilante of your mail box for the assassin is able to arrive unexpectedly with a forceful entry into your reading life.

I wish to thank all my supporters and the early backers who, with only faith and belief, took a chance on this project, allowing it to succeed. Now that the assassin is loose, the game changes from one of publication to that of popularity.  If you like the story, please assist me by telling your friends and posting about it on social media. You can also place a review on the bookselling sites of Amazon and Barnes & Noble.  Your enthusiasm for the story is a powerfully convincing factor in the spread of the word about Tears of the Assassin.  Thank you, and with the assassin now on mission assignment, to look over your shoulder is not an unwarranted act of paranoia.

Just a quick update on where things stand. In the next 24 hours we should be done with developmental editing and sending the manuscript over to copy editing. The manuscript is in really good shape. There are still some typos to fix and a few scenes that we’re working on, but I’m anticipating we’ll knock those out tonight/tomorrow morning.

Copy editing should take about a couple of weeks, meaning we should have a final version of the manuscript going into formatting on the last week of the month. This will enable Inkshares to print "galleys" (promotional versions of the book) by the end of the month, which is very exciting.

In the mean time, I need to do my "author picture" for the inside sleeve of the book. I have something cool in mind, but as I’m not very photogenic, it may not work out. Still, I’ve enlisted the services of my friend and photographer Lai Long whom I believe will endeavor to make photographic miracles happen.

I’m told everything is all set for the book launch at San Diego Comic Con in July. I’m not really sure exactly what it is that we’ll be doing there to promote the book. Maybe I’ll just do a little interpretive teleportation dance while wearing a futuristic LED suit. Probably not that.

So excited you guys. Jazz hands!

          Most wonderful and dedicated followers,

I am happy to let you know that, after (far too much) silence, draft three rewrites are currently in progress. If all goes according to plan, rewrites will be complete by the first of March. It’ll take a lot of coffee AND plenty of support from all of you, so think happy vibes in my general direction. Once rewrites are done, I’ll drop another line to update you all on a potential production timeline.

Your support and patience mean the world to me. Thank you all so much for believing in this story!

          Your (somewhat stressed) author,

Robert Batten liked an update for The Catcher’s Trap

            Hello friends

It has been a couple of weeks since you heard from me. The thing is, I’m fully immersed in the world of Bad Medicine, working hard to finish the manuscript and deliver it to Inkshares. It feels great to be back in the groove, writing every day and loving every minute of it.

The world of The Catcher’s Trap is quiet these days. I’m happy to report that the book continues to sell steadily. The novel is not close to becoming a New York Times best-seller anytime soon, but I’m happy. For a completely unknown author like me, the fact that there are people out there interested in my work and willing to pay for it is winning in life.

Remember, if you want to give me a hand, please either rate or leave a review on Amazon. Reviews help make the book more visible, and visibility is the best gift you can send my way. Also, if you read it and enjoyed it, please recommend it to your friends. Click here to leave a review.

As I said before, I am working on several side projects that I will be launching in March. A couple of days ago I received the cover art for my short story Paragon Falling. I will be giving this story away for free on Amazon as a way to promote my writing. The idea is to publish a free short story every month, with the hopes to compile them into a book of short stories to be released next year.

That’s it. Short and sweet. Before I go just a quick reminder that the campaign for The Catcher’s Trap sequel is active. You can support here.

             Have a great week!

Robert Batten liked an update for Fae Child

              Hello Readers and Followers!

We are in the last month of my funding campaign for Fae Child. This has been a great journey - not that it’s been easy, or even fun at times - but it’s been a time of stretching who I am as a person and learning what I really want out of all this.

Obviously publication is still my goal. Fae Child will be published, I promise you that. With 93 copies left to sell and 24 days in which do to it, my confidence that Inkshares is the place where this will happen is waning. If you have been waiting to swoop in and order at the last second, like Gandalf the White riding in to Helm’s Deep to save the day, then now is the time! Preorder your copy!

I will remind you that Fae Child has been backed by three syndicates here on Inkshares. The last thing I want is to fail in the face of such support. Your personal recommendations are worth their weight in gold to me, and I am incredibly grateful for (and a little in awe of) all the reviews and recommendations Fae Child has already gotten. Thank you.

If you haven’t ordered yet, please consider doing so! The campaign will end on Feb 28th and refunds will be going out in March if we do not hit at least 250 orders before then.

Thank you again, for all your support. I can’t do this, and couldn’t have come this far, without you.

Robert Batten liked an update for The Seventh Age: Dawn

                Welcome to February everyone! By now, hopefully everyone has gotten their books. Some of you, may have started reading by now. So I’ve come to bring you artwork;

This is an image of a hairless squirrel cat rodent rat demon thingy that steals tacos and eats pizza. His name is Sparkles.

Say Hello. Brandwyn did this wonderful little critter, and is working on another demon that will be revealed later. You can find more of her artwork here.

Now this brings us to reviews! If you’ve read the book (liked or disliked) I would very much appreciate it if you left me a review. Rankings, Algorithms, Search Engines, are all based on reaching bench-marks of reviews--so the more reviews I get, the better chances the book has out in the wild.

Finally, I just want to say thank you to everyone for all the support. The book is finally out! From here on out, I’ll be posting updates through here maybe once a month. Based on new artwork, con news, or other progress updates on the sequel. I’ve also got a short story about Akira I’ll be bringing out this year as well.

                Gah! ~Rick.

Robert Batten liked an update for The Children of the Forest

Apologies all, for the extended bout of silence. Suffice it to say, I’ve been quite busy - both with personal life, and the monumental task of editing/finishing the last parts of "The Children of the Forest". Luckily, I’ve had several important breakthroughs in the last couple weeks, and it looks like we are on track for the finish line once again.

I appreciate everyone’s patience with the novel (the extended duration for editing and revisions is an unfortunate side-effect of this not being my primary job) but I can assure you all that my focus is renewed on completing the book in a very timely matter. As a small treat, I’ve got another little piece of artwork to show off, this time of the novel’s primary antagonist, the Pale King himself.

An ancient and mysterious traveler from the far reaches of Nin’s northern wilds, the Pale King commands a vast horde of savage followers, and himself hearkens back to a more primordial time in Nin’s history. What does he want? What are his ambitions? Those mysteries are the heart of "The Children of the Forest" ~ and you’ll have to read the book to find out!
