Hi friends,

It’s funny how much noise we make at the end of a funding campaign but then go almost completely quiet once the goal is reached and the celebratory newsletters are sent. It make sense; the book is going into production and Inkshares doesn’t waste time getting us to work. I just sent in my brief and questionnaire. I’m doing a few go-overs before handing in the manuscript. Then there’s other stuff that I need to take care of almost daily. What I’m saying is; I’ve stopped bothering you, but I haven’t stopped working on this.

In the meantime, there’s a lot going on. Least of which is not that I want to get nominated for a Dragon Award. Well, not me, but my other book The Life Engineered. It’s pretty simple to help out. Just go to this page and enter The Life Engineered in the Science Fiction Novel field and follow other instructions. If I get nominated, I’ll drag my carcass down to DragonCon so I can watch someone else win in person. It’ll be a nightmare and YOU can be part of making it happen. I dare you.

I’ll be keeping all of you in the loop as thing develop, but if you want to make sure you don’t miss anything about my next project, follow Arch-Android, the sequel to The Life Engineered. I’ll be switching this over to a Draft very soon and asking for beta readers. Make sure you don’t miss out. I plan on making that campaign a bigger deal than what I’ve done so far.

As always; thanks for the support. Great things are happening because of you.

Oh yeah! Don’t forget to pre-order Pilot X from Tom Merritt. I vouch for it.

Nomination complete!

Hello friend!

It’s with dark joy in my heart and the lingering effects of celebratory scotch that I come to you this day.

First, I have an announcement! The winner of the ’I Want to Kill You’ raffle has been decided. He’s accepting the ’honour’ of having his likeness murdered in A God in the Shed and while I can reveal his identity, we have yet to discuss the manner of his demise. Congratulations to Brad Ludwig! I can’t think of a better dude to murder... in a book. Fiction. I’m not really killing Brad.

In more serious business, I want to ask for your help again. Don’t worry, your wallet and credits are safe this time, however...

DragonCon is starting its own awards. I won’t bury the lead; I want to see my first book; The Life Engineered nominated. I mean, I’ll be happy if any Inkshares book gets a nomination but obviously I’d be deliriously happy if The Life Engineered got a nod in there. So this will fusion reaction powering my communications with you for the next little while: Let’s get Inkshares a Dragon Award. Have a look at the nomination page and please consider putting in The Life Engineered for the Science Fiction category. While you’re there, here are some suggestions for other categories if you feel like supporting the Inkshares platform:

Click here for the nomination page.

Last but not last, I have yet another favour to ask, but this time it’s for my friend A.C. Baldwin. She’s is nearing the end of her funding campaign and she is so very close to her goal of 250 pre-orders. I know I’ve been asking a lot from you guys lately, but if you have a few credits rolling around or you’re just curious about her book, check out A.C. Baldwin’s The Traveller’s Cup. It’s a great book and A.C. is a tremendously promising author and a tireless artist. She deservers this.

Thanks friends. Inkshares has already sent me documents to fill out so we can prepare the first production meeting for A God in the Shed. The wheels start rolling. The book is being made.

JF!
A huge congratulations! And well-deserved, for such a polished work. I am very happy for you, and for your great example!
Celebrate!!!
Ferd. :-)

I don’t usually do two updates in one day but...

WE FUNDED!

So let me make something clear: I use the term ’we’ when talking about this campaign because while I write the book, it’s your support and encouragement that makes it happen. These aren’t empty words meant to artificially include you and make you feel like part of the process. The whole point of Inkshares is that this is a community effort. A symbiotic endeavour between reader and writer to help create works of fiction and bring them to the public.

There are a lot of people who have gone above and beyond for this to happen and I’d like to highlight at least three that can benefit immediately from your support:

John Robin, the author of Blood Dawn, spearheaded community efforts to rally people together after I called for help from fellow authors. John is a hard working writer and a helluva guy. Check out Blood Dawn and support it.

Andre Brun, my CEGEP buddy and author of Lies & Deception campaigned for me harder than I could campaign for myself. He leveraged his own book and his salesmanship skills to gather a ton of pre-orders and get A God in the Shed in front of many new pairs of eyes. Lies & Deception is a terrifyingly ambitious book that deserves your attention. Check it out.

Paul Inman, my cohost on WriteBrain and author of Ageless also lent a hand and was a big part of the community, leveraging the release of his own book to help get visibility for A God in the Shed. Check out Ageless, I read it and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Finally, let me plug my buddy Brian Guthrie who was a great help and is currently participating in the Geek & Sundry Hard SciFi contest on Inkshares. Check out his book After Man and support it with all your heart (and pre-orders).

More soon as thing develop and, as promised:

JF I thought we have 4 days, which  is enough time for me to get to Montreal for the Laphroaig. But you were fast--so I have to give it a pass as the last plane for the day has left. All the same congratulations and cheers!
