Winning

Riiing! Riiing!

I pull up to David’s house and put the car in park. It’s date night and we’re going to watch a movie, but I just heard about these tickets for a baseball game that are up for grabs on the radio. I never call for these things, but something has me calling now.

Riiing! Riiing! Riii-

“Hi! What’s your name?”

Oh my God. Someone picked up. “Uh, my name is Olive.”

“Well, Olive, have you ever won anything on KIIS FM before?”

“No…”

“Well, you just won two tickets to the Dodgers vs. Rockies game on…” Her voice fades away as excitement overwhelms me.

“Oh my gosh! Thank you so much!”

“Olive, just hold on through this next song and I’ll get your information so that we can get you your tickets.”

“Sure. Thank you!”

The sound on the phone changes to match the music playing on the radio and I send a quick text to David.

Come outside!

The music continues and a few moments later I see David walking over to the car. He opens the passenger side door and says, “Do you need some help?” He glances at the bag from In-N-Out that sits forgotten on the passenger seat.

“I just won tickets to the Dodgers vs. Rockies game!” I practically yell, unable to contain myself.

“Bullshit.” He says, not believing me for a second.

“I’m on the phone with them right now.” I put the call on speakerphone. “Just waiting to give them my info for the tickets.”

“Is this a joke? Come on.” David is totally unfazed.

“I’m serious! Get in here!”

He rolls his eyes, but gets into the car.

The song ends and the radio DJ comes back on the line as another song starts.

“Okay! Olive are you still there?” She asks.

“Yes, I’m here.”

“Great! So, I’m going to ask you for some information so that we can get you your tickets for a suite at the Dodgers vs. Rockies game.”

I turn and grin smugly at David who is now staring at me in astonishment.

“Sure,” I respond. “Go ahead.”

Five minutes later I hang up and glance over to see my boyfriend watching me.

“What?” I ask.

“You just freaking won tickets for a suite at a Dodgers game.”

“Yeah,” I shrug, as we get out and head into the house. “I’m actually pretty excited about it. So… Will you go to the game with me?” I ask, as if I didn’t already know the answer.

“Yeah! Of course I will! Best Father’s Day present ever. Thank you, baby.”

David walks over to where I’m standing in front of the couch, pulls me into his arms and kisses me. Our kiss deepens and I forget about the food, the movie, the tickets we’ve just won... It’s just us. Here. This.

I get lost in the kiss and, when I come up for air, he’s there grinning down at me. His green eyes look so dark and I reach up to put my arms around his neck and pull him to me again. His hands slide down to my hips and I get lost all over again.
