The Journey

The driver turned on the radio and the car was filled with music. Radio Downtown was having a Johnny Cash night.

“Jesus what’s going on?” sobbed Mary, “What do you want with me?”

“Shut the fuck up slut!” said the man on her left, Mary could smell the sickly sweet taint of Buckfast wine on his breath.

“Honest to God, i have done noth......!” she started to say, but her pleading was cut short as the man on her right punched her full in the face. The salty metallic taste of blood reached her lips.

Mary had been born and raised in the streets that run off The Falls, she may not know who these men were but she knew who they represented. She knew the rest of her life could be measured by the length of this car journey and not much longer. With this realization came the fear, the fear of a fox cornered by the pack of hounds.

Hot urine soaked the car seat.

“Awww for fucks sake!” groaned the man on her right, “..the whore has wet herself and these trousers were clean on this evening!”

The driver said “I’m not surprised ... She knows what’s coming ....”

...and the Man in Black sang “Yippie i ohhh ohh ohh yippie i aye ye ye Ghost riders in the sky... "
