Josephina walked right in and couldn’t believe what she saw.
Everything was gone. All of the worldly possessions she had worked so hard for. Disappeared without a trace. Up in the air, as misty as the air breezing through her hair.
Falling to her knees, not knowing what she eould even fathomably grasp in her hands, the world was falling apart as she knew it. "What did I do wrong? What did I do to deserve this?"
Mangled upon the empty space where her possessions once were, was a sullen, lonely, body of a baby boy.
In exchange for her things, she found herself in the care of a mystery boy.
But who was the boy? Why was he there? Where did he come from? So many questions....
There were no clues, nothing left behind with the baby boy. Merely laying there in a diaper, naked otherwise, Josephina searched him for a birth mark or anything to help identify from where he may have come. Typically, one has a small mark or scar or something. Not this little one. He was perfect as could be. His skin so pristine, so soft, nothing could blemish this baby. It was as if he was alien.
"No," she thought to herself. "I can’t be responsible for this boy, I’m only a young woman with so much life to live." Yet, she looked into the eyes of the helpless little creature, and fell deep into them, lost in a worldly abyss of such youth and innocence. She couldn’t just leave him behind. He was so small, so kind and gentle, so helpless.
Josephina went to pick him up, and slowly cradled him into her bosom, hoping that she could provide some warmth and comfort. The baby stared into her eyes and smiled, coodling and gurgling softly. He waved his small flailing arms about, reaching for her golden locks hanging just above her eyebrow. Playfully, he kept reaching for her hair, then grabbed her nose in the process, giggling, enjoying his new playmate.
She smiled, lost in the baby’s trance, and realized that in that moment, he was all she had, and she was all he had. They only had each other, and the world was vicious. To survive, they would have to stick together.
Confident in her newfound decision to care for the newborn, she found a nearby shirt to wrap him in, and keep him warm in her arms. She began to walk away when the room started to dim. The lights weren’t malfunctioning, but rather, they were flickering and dimming all over the place. What in the world was going on?
She looked for signs, for clues, as to the source of this problem. Little did she know, the baby in her arms had powerful forces. Forces beyond the scope of what could be understood on this Earth. Josephina looked back into the baby’s eyes, only this time, they weren’t a mere blue. They had turned into a clouded purple color. Nearly dropping the baby in a panic, out of fear, she lowered her arms as if to distance herself from this seemingly possessed baby. "What is he?," Josephina thought to herself in a panic. Breathing heavily, but trying to get it under control, she slowly started bringing the baby’s face closer to hers. "What are you?"
