“Just play. Have fun. Enjoy the game.” — Michael Jordan
At the time of writing this book I have been turning my life into games for the past two years. Or rather, for the past two years I have done so deliberately. I now realize that I have been applying game-design principles to my life for much longer, unbeknownst to myself. For the past six months I have been gamifying all areas of my life, and I have immense fun with it.
When I first heard the word “gamification” I was sure I would find someone else doing what I do or at least someone who was wondering, as I was, whether we could turn all our activities, including those we think we don’t like doing, into fun occupations. But I didn’t.
I also couldn’t find another non-gamer writing about gamification.
As a non-gamer, I was looking for a simple and highly practical way to gamify my life.
Now, as the interest in my method – which brings three established approaches into one strong synergy – grows, I would like to share all the knowledge and experience I have gathered so far, in this book.
I hope you enjoy reading this book as much as I enjoyed writing it.
I also hope that as you read this book you begin viewing and treating your goals, your project plans, and to-do lists, not as annoying necessities but as design plans and score sheets for exciting games that you design yourself. And that, just like one of the great game designers, who want to create the best game they can for their players, you do the same, taking care to ensure that you, as the player in your own life, have the most amount of fun possible!
