Bad Question. Wait A While.
What’s Been Happening Between Chapter 4 and Chapter 16
Chapter 16 is going to be the funniest chapter in our story. But it doesn’t start out like that.
What has been happening Is that Gary has been trying to get Julie to agree to move from San Fran to New York. But Gary re-thinks his own proposal and realizes that, once Julie joins he and Jessi, Julie may leave with Jessi and return to San Fran and her other four children.
So we’ve seen a few attempts and failures of resolving this hostage situation.
All conversation is done by Gary calling ‘Collect’ from pay phones whenever he gains hope that he has a new method of controlling Julie. Then it fails when he re-thinks it and realizes that no agreement for family permanence can be extracted while holding the child hostage.
Gary’s latest taunt, or threat, is that he’s filing for custody of Jessi in some New York court.
Julie and I wake up and I, stupidly, ask bad questions that torment Julie even more.
Then we come to comedy relief. You are going to enjoy this section.
Then Julie and I are reminded of what ‘love for others’ means.
