Journey of Discovering Yourself

Know your self-worth

It is very important to know your self-worth.  But in order to do that, one must have an idea of who he/she is.  Many of us don’t know who we are, or we prefer not to know out of fear of rejection from society.  Each of us are ashamed of ourselves in some form or another and people are so cruel in pointing out things to make you feel ashamed.  “You’re too skinny.” “You look fat.” “You have a bald spot.” “You’re black.” “You’re white.”  But isn’t it funny, the qualities, appearances, or demographic categories they make fun of are often among their deepest fears and desires?

One time, a girl I liked made fun of my arms by saying they were noodle arms. However, she was trying to lose weight; she was making fun of the very body type she desired.  But I love how our God doesn’t care about any of that.  God made you in HIS image according to HIS word because he says you are GOOD enough.

You don’t need someone else’s estimation to sum up the total of your ability.  Just because she underestimated her self-worth doesn’t mean you have to limit yourself.  The number of blessings God can provide is endless, but our reach is endless through His grace. I know it stings when the person that meant so much to you says something to hurt your feelings, but God is above them.  God said to you, “that’s my boy; that’s my girl.” “I will make you so unique with traits that are exclusive to you.”  God said yes to ALL parts of you.  You were made so selflessly that he took the time to create you just right in his image.  The fact that he was SELFless to create someone like you should be an indicator of your self-worth in Christ.

If anyone tries to tell you that you’re less, you don’t even have to respond. God responded when he made you with one word. “Yes.”  Even when you know that, you still doubt yourself. You are still hard on yourself.  So the question is, how do you keep a strong mind during these times?  We have to remember that we have a God that wants nothing but the best for us even if it doesn’t seem like it.  He wants to go on this journey with us.  1 Corinthians 10:13 says “The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure (NLT).” Many of you are afraid to pursue your own journey, but it’s time to change that mindset because God has a greater plan for you than you could ever dream up yourself.  But I believe in order to pursue that life, you have to have a sense of who you are, a sense a love for yourself.
