There isn’t anything that can erase the images of that afternoon from my mind. Mother had sent me to the market to pick up a few items for dinner. Living only a few blocks away, I would always just walk and it wouldn’t take me long at all. My trip there seemed to be no different than any other, until I was on my way back. I noticed in this late afternoon, that the sky was a little darker than usual; very cloudy with a chilled breeze in the air and the moon nowhere to be found.
As I approached the fence gate in front of my house, I was filled with the oddest sensation when noticing that there wasn’t light illuminating from any of the windows. The front porch light was also off which was strange since mother had always made sure to switch it on before I got home. Once I reached the front door, an unsettling feeling came over me when I found that the door was open slightly. I remember yelling for my mother and my little sister as I slowly pushed open the door. When I didn’t get any response, I threw the door open the rest of the way and cut on the light. What I saw next put me in a state of shock, I couldn’t believe what my eyes was having my brain develop. On the floor right in front of me, laid my mother’s limp, crimson covered body. Right next to her, which was what destroyed me the most inside, was my eight-year-old sister, she too covered head to toe in her own blood and still as “death.”
I was trapped inside a living nightmare. My ears began to ring and I started to go visionless to the painful, gruesome sight. I then let out several horrific cries that could’ve been heard for miles. The room started to spin and before I knew it, everything went black.
