A key concern of the present age is the improvement of the quality and appearance of our surrounding environment. Landscape management makes an important contribution to improvements in the quality of life. In particular, green spaces represent a primary focus.
The concept that forms the basis for the landscape architecture of Baia Mare's parks is the adoption of new landscaping concepts through the introduction of new decorative species and the renewal of the present landscape design, in the spirit of preserving the environment. With this goal in mind, we aim to introduce Asimina triloba (L.) Dunal into the city's green spaces and to renew the current vegetation. The green areas of the city contain dynamic elements that are constantly being transformed.
These influence the local urban environment, which in turn is influenced by them, so that there appears a need to renew the green spaces in a way that they can serve the needs of the local population. The city's green spaces must reflect the lifestyle, activities and culture of the society where they are located.
Integrating Asimina triloba (L.) Dunal into the city's architectural design would create a powerful aesthetic impact. The first step would be acclimating the plant to local conditions. The new species, a deciduous tree rarely found in Europe and especially in Romania, would improve the environment, benefit residents and help researchers.
However, we aim not only to introduce a new species, but to adopt an entirely new landscape design that entails remodeling extant vegetation. This design would take the following needs into account:
a) the creation of an environment that is satisfactory to the needs of residents of all ages
b) the management of a green space pleasant in the present, but also conceived so as to be useful in the future
c) the possibility that future generations of landscape architects may wish to impose their own changes. They must retain the possibility of introducing further ornamental species and of modifying the landscape design and the compositional elements of the green spaces.
Asimina triloba (L.) Dunal is the only species of the Annonaceae family that grows in a temperate climate. Although not well known, it is found widely in the United States. Fossils from New Jersey show that it dates to the Miocene and possibly the Eocene, in any event long before humans appeared.
