“We’re going to have to run,” he said suddenly. “They will be after us as soon as they don’t get word back from Evgeni”. My heart begins to beat faster again, but it steadies as I exhale. We walked hand in hand down the gravel driveway to retrieve Evgeni’s body. We looked over his body, examining his bullet wounds. I smiled at the wound I had inflicted, a perfect shot to the very center of the back of his head.
We turned his limp body over and discovered Leon’s bullet wound, a direct hit on the shoulder clavicle. I noticed more blood seaming from his abdomen and found another bullet wound. Leon and I had both only shot him once.
Leon examined his body more, rummaging through his jacket until he came upon a note. A note that had not been touched by the flames. Leon took it and examined it.
“Leighton, we need to get out of here. Now”
“Why? What does it say?”
“Run”.
