If you enjoy fantasy, read this prologue: It pulls you into the world fast enough, tells you a great short story, and sets up the stage nicely. A mixture of creaking leather, thievery, training, and character development are woven together nicely.

High drama and high stakes converge in this epic fantasy of vengeance, greed, betrayal... and redemption. Look forward to reading more!

Child of Secrets is a fantasy thief tale in the vein of some of my favourites - the prologue quickly reminded my of Locke Lamora, and I am eager to read more of his exploits!

Reid's writing has a kinesthetic quality to it that puts you right in the action. He says in his description that this began as an earlier project and grew from there, and the evidence of editing is apparent, in the best way. The relationships between characters is well-developed and clear, and the dialogue is snappy. An excellent contender for both the Geek and Sundry prize, and for publication in general.

I love what I’ve read so far and would recommend Child of Secrets to anyone who loves well-written fantasy with rich world building and characters that pop off the page.

I've hugely enjoyed the Prologue and first chapter of Child of Secrets. Reid gets straight into the action and shows us the rich world he has built as his intriguing characters interact with it, making it instantly real. I look forward to reading more!

The opening lines set you squarely in the world. The characters and setting are brought to life with clever, well-paced writing. Lively, realistic dialogue serves to not only entertain through suspense and humor, but also lays out exposition and moves the plot forward. The transition from the Prologue to the first chapter puts a unique twist on the reader’s expectation of who the actual protagonist is here. All-in-all, I love what I’ve read so far and would recommend Child of Secrets to anyone who loves well-written fantasy with rich world building and characters that pop off the page.

I read the sample chapters of this project several days ago now and every day since the Quicksilver/Asher and his mentors, in their full setting, have popped into my head, and I've wondered what they're up to. So, I had to pre-order and leave a review to increase my chances of finding out!
