Chapter 2

|chapter2|

"It was a trap"
I said for the eleventh time to the eleventh person that came to ask me about the mission in the last eleven hours i spent in this all white hospital room . it was all unnerving .
"You already told us that Mr. Baxter, but what we need to know is what really happened."
I was about to tell him what’s going to happen to that perfect set of teeth he keeps on showing if he didn’t stop driving me crayzy. Too bad . we got interrupted by General Jeffard.
"Captain Baxter ..., you’re alive" he said and i have no idea why it felt like he wasn’t all that happy about my being alive.
"I’m glad i did ,sir"
"You did, indeed, didn’t you?" He said like he was talking to himself and this was getting weirder.
He suddenly shook his head as if to clear it. He looked back at me and smiled but really , it was more like a grimace.
"I know this might be hard on you. Seeing all your fellow friends die in front of you, but ....i’d very much like to know how you survived " he said calmly. I started talking now.
"Sir, we spotted a few rebel barracks 72 hours ago and we were sent to ...."
"I already know about the mission, Gray, what i really want know is how you are here today while 545 of our best men are dead"
"I took 3 bullets, sir. The first in the shoulder than in my side and the third in my thigh. I hit myhead too and i was inconscience for hours. The rebels probably thought i was dead and left me there" i said.
General Jeffard kept staring at me as if checking if i was lying. But than again, he nodded.
"Well then , now we’ll let you have some rest after what you’ve been through" he said
"Sir,thank you, sir" i said, suddenly remembering i was to talking to a freaking general.
He got up and left the room and the other excuse-of-an-investigator followed him silently. That is when i finally laid my head back and closed my eyes with no idea about my future.
