The station was busy and loud, full of people with places to go and things to see. A woman near me screamed, desperate and pained. Suddenly all noise stopped and slowly, one by one, heads turned towards the source of the scream. Most people stopped abruptly and headed towards the woman, but some continued to walk. I quickly ran towards the screamer, to figure out what was wrong. I looked at the face of the woman, only to see my sister on the ground leaning over someone. “Lucy, are you ok?” I asked quickly. “What happened?”
I leaned over to touch her shoulder but I couldn’t, my hand went straight through. I looked over at my hand to see nothing, my body was transparent and useless. What was going on? Completely ignoring the dead body in front of me I scanned my body. Nothing visible, no hands, no legs, no shoulders, no feet. The only thing I could see was a timer where my watch used to be, 35 hours, 58 minutes and 34 seconds… 33 seconds…32. Why that time, why 36 hours from when Lucy screamed?
“Ethan, why Ethan? come back!” Lucy cried. “What is it Lucy, I’m right here,” I replied in confusion. What was going on? So much was happening. Lucy ignored me again, still sobbing over the body. To my right, another lady yelled, “Police, help, over here!” An officer guarding the entrance of the station rushed over.
“Ethan, you didn’t deserve to die,” she continued
“WHAT? DIED!” I circled the body to get a closer look at it. It was me. Suddenly, everything came back to me, we were traveling to our parent’s house and someone from behind must have shot me and walked off. I died instantly and Lucy screamed.
“So why am I here? And what was that timer?
Do I have a mission?
Or is God punishing me for something by keeping me on Earth?”
