We did it. 750 copies sold. This. Is. Amazing.

Thank you, a million times over. The past few months have been challenging, invigorating, frustrating, and inspiring. I have made several new friends and reconnected with old ones. Nothing quite like the raw experience of putting yourself and your work out there.

I am excited to embark on the production journey and to give you sneak peeks behind the scenes along the way. So, what goes into the production of a book with a full-scale publishing house, before it makes its way to a bookstore near you? Glad you asked! I made the following to break it down, and will also add it to my revamped book page for future reference:

As I make my way through these phases, I will aim to send you updates every month or so, or when something particularly exciting happens, so as to not drive all of you up the wall. Also, since I know it will be a long wait, I have decided that once the edits are complete, I will send all of you (my original backers) an electronic uncorrected proof. This means that you will have the ability to read the book months before it is released while waiting for your official copy.

Several, if not most, of you, found the book through my Twitter account @WritesAsheville - I have created a separate handle specifically for book-related news - @TWACI2090 Feel free to follow!

And last, but not least, the winner of the $250 Airbnb gift card (chosen by random number generator) is ......

Just in time for summer! Enjoy!

Cheers! -Jacqui

I felt quickly like the world of the story was real.  Reopening cabinets expecting more food and moving your leg from under the covers then back again, that dwelling in your own head- I think those are important elements to make her seam like any of us...just ina different time. The dream description in the cafe I also really like- as her life sounds lonely and being in a busy cafe taking laugher in, shows that she is longing for a simple thing. Something you shouldn't have to dream to experience. I looking forward to reading the whole book! All the best, Alyssa

America unified and secure - what price would you be willing to pay? The Walls are Closing In leaves the reader hoping that this entirely-too-possible tale remains a work of fiction. Castle's writing hits home in all those gritty ways that make dystopian fiction all at once intriguing and frightening. The nation’s citizens are cared for, protected, and entertained – all of this in exchange for their unerring obedience and disclosure. Safety or freedom is a choice I don’t want to make, but I can’t wait to read more!

Castle has crafted an eerily believable future for America that is reminiscent of George Orwell's "1984". From the giant wall insulating America from the rest of the world, to the propaganda on mandatory, controlled television, to the cameras monitoring the protagonist's every movement, I was chilled. This is a fascinating read about how 75 years from now, everything could be totally different in our world.

The Walls are Closing In paints a vivid picture of a chilling future which feels all too believeable in today's climate. An insular, authoritarian regime rules over a brittle, fearful United States. Our protagonist, refreshingly a scientist, has a legitimate purpose working within the restricted buffer zone bordering the towering wall now dividing her country from the rest of the world. It's likely to get her in trouble.Jacqui Castle is a skilled author, presenting us with an engaging narrative likely to prove a powerful cautionary tale as well as exhilarating ride.

This is future shock delivered in real time and with max voltage. The most chilling part about "The Walls are Closing In" is that the walls really are closing in. We have just endured a presidential where truth was discarded and ignored, so it does not seem like such a leap to enter a world where truth, beyond what the powerful deem it to be, is unknown.
