I felt quickly like the world of the story was real.  Reopening cabinets expecting more food and moving your leg from under the covers then back again, that dwelling in your own head- I think those are important elements to make her seam like any of us...just ina different time. The dream description in the cafe I also really like- as her life sounds lonely and being in a busy cafe taking laugher in, shows that she is longing for a simple thing. Something you shouldn't have to dream to experience.
