Hi everyone! I found Inkshares through a book jacket at my local library. I’ve envisioned my writing on bookstore shelves since I was in early elementary school and am excited to finally start out on that journey. I’m definitely interested in hearing feedback to strengthen and hone my skills. I also enjoy reading as much as I can and having access to the great pieces here has already been quite fun. I look forward to new friends and advice!

My first book I was inspired because I was in a bad place personally, so I signed up for my first NaNoWriMo event and finished it. Now, 6 years later, here I am. My most recent one, the world that my first novel was set in I realized could write a really nice romantic story as a kind of "off shoot" of my main fantasy work.

Hello!  I found Inkshares through an online review of A God in the Shed while searching for new author resources online.  What an amazing idea!  My only writing so far has been academic, but like art and photography, I enjoy writing fiction whenever I can find time.

This summer, I find myself with a couple of months off between jobs, and I’m taking the opportunity to finally finish the first draft of a hard sci-fi novel I’ve been poking at for a few years.  I’m very close to starting a draft here on Inkshares, but I have a few questions about building a readership on other sites simultaneously.  Would it be advisable to also post my work on sites like Medium, Goodreads, and other indie publishing sites?  Or, is that considered bad form if I’m attempting to get published on Inkshares?  I’m new at this, so I want to start out on the right foot.

Thanks in advance for any advice you may have!
          Cheers,
          Mike

My most recent WIP Upon Stilted Cities was inspired by a dream all the way back in 2011, which I wrote down. In it, a man was standing overlooking a Giant walking city as it migrated through a desert landscape.

At the time though, I was a graduate student and only had a few moments here or there to write anything down. Then a few years ago I started thinking about that dream and started writing stuff down. The next thing I knew I had a rough draft of the first 3 books and nearly 900 pages of text. Some of those were very rough at first but now they are much cleaner.

The series will now have 6 novels. I self-published the first book Mimi of the Nowhere back in May and it’s getting a great response so far.  Upon Stilted Cities the second book just got a new cover and you find samples of it on my page.

Just keep writing and write that thing which really is a splinter in your mind and will not let you rest until you get some words on the page. That’s when you know there is something to your story.
