That’s very respectable @Rick Heinz ! I pre-ordered a copy of Seventh Age: Dystopia and am looking forward to your campaign :D

The advice @Rick Heinz gave is excellent so I will expand upon that a little bit by saying this: don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone! As a participant in the previous contest, I had to reach out using  multiple platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Google, blogs, Reddit, etc) and pester coworkers, old teachers, friends, extended family members, and Inkshares members. From day one, I promoted my book, messaged people constantly, and updated my readers regularly. The contests are grueling, but if you set your mind to the task you’ll be surprised at the outcome. I started off with no fan base when I entered the contest, but I didn’t give up and kept fighting. In the end, I was about 8 orders behind 3rd and reached Quill by the end of the contest. If you’re passionate enough about your project, people will see that and support you :)

Actually, I’ll take it a step further: Don’t mass-email people if you haven’t asked them to opt in to your mass email list. I’ve been added to multiple mailing lists without signing up. And most of them also have no easy option to unsubscribe.

(I’d be less bothered by this if most of the mass emails weren’t asking me to pre-order a book I already ordered, but that’s beside the point.)

The reader update module on the site is a wonderful tool that bakes in the reader’s right to opt in or out. People who follow your book have told you it’s totally cool to send them updates through that. Anything beyond that, you need to ask.

The land shapes where the Warsingers make music. Profound masters of war, wielding mysterious weapons of power. Within their crucible of battle the turning of an age comes to a young world. An age tolling with an ominous bell’s insidious fury.

      HARK! There is news!

Children of the Teller has received some positive feedback early on in the Inkshares/Geek & Sundry Fantasy contest. Despite this, our sales are off to a slow start. I have devised a brilliant plan to help ramp up this effort and get it off to a better start - RAFFLES! Everyone loves a good raffle, right?

Allow me to elaborate - Children of the Teller is still in production, meaning that I have a lot of creative freedom with names going forward. So here’s what we’ll do - as sales reach each goal, I will (randomly) choose one person to name A Thing within the story.

      • At 20 orders, a fortunate soul gets to name a town to be featured in the story.
      • At 50 orders, another fortunate soul gets to name a horse (it’s a fantasy story after all - the horses are always named).
      • At 100 orders, a winning name will get to name a sword.
      • At 150 orders, a lucky personage of high standing shall bestow a moniker upon a character.
      • AND AT 250 ORDERS, a person of incredibly blessed stars will be asked to create a minor character to boost the plot at the opportune moment.
      • At 500 orders...ooh, you’d love to know that, wouldn’t you? You’ll just have to stay tuned for that momentous announcement.

Of course I reserve the right to tell you your name is a dumb one and if you name anything in the spirit of "Boaty McBoatface" I’ll simply ignore it and move on to the next person in line. Don’t make me do that, please?

So if you want the opportunity to name things, you should definitely share this information with all of your family and friends and random strangers that fix your coffee at Starbucks this afternoon.

      Happy reading!

        C. Brennecke liked an update for The Knight Proper

        Hello, friends!

Just a quick update to let you know that if you ordered a paperback, those will be shipped to you within the next two weeks and for e-books, those will be made available as well in short time.

For our local Southern California peeps, we’ll be hosting our book release/signing party at the Barnes & Noble in Chino Hills, on Saturday, August 13, from 2 pm to 4 pm - we’d love to see you there!   (Matt might or might not actually wear a FULL plate of armor... ok, probably not, but maybe Adam?)
