A lot of recent discussion in the Break the Bechdel Syndicate inspired me to choose this delicate topic for this week’s Friday vlog. Here I discuss my thoughts on writing female characters as a male author, and the state of female characters in general. I’m hopeful that this’ll generate some thoughtful (respectful) conversation, and serve as a marker on the road to writing better characters for us all.
I actually barely got into talking about Tantalus Depths at all this time, but that’s okay. These are topics that need discussed in their own right.
Don’t forget to keep supporting Tantalus Depths! We’re making steady headway, and are coming closer to that coveted halfway mark in the campaign!
FIORIE AND KROORRIJK
PROLOGUE
The silence as the wagon wheels ceased to creek pulled Fiorie to consciousness. She willed her mind to drift into a pleasant state of dream, her body growing soft. Long years of practice had made this response to awaking in the midst of unknown dangers automatic.
Her handler was talking to someone. The new voice was in a sharp sounding Vexra, the tongue shared by all feral races. She presumed the owner of the voice to be one of the Kalutai, the t. . .

Hi, everybody! Just a quick little tangent today.
SideScroller has fallen down the ranks from 3rd to 6th! The competition in this contest just got real in a scary way, but I could never have gotten this far at all if not for you, so thanks again for all your help and pre-orders! (I’ve got a little surprise coming soon for all of you, something that’ll hopefully get more butts in the SideScroller seats). Should hopefully have it ready this weekend.
In the meantime, I want to talk about a new Inkshares book I’ve discovered: "Tantalus Depths", by Evan Graham. This dude looks like he’s taking hard sci-fi to the next level. You like creepy, ancient planets? He’s got ’em. You like artificial intelligence that grows and thinks and adapts? He’s got it. You like fantastic, eldritch terrors from beyond our realm of reasoning? Then why are you still reading this? Go check out Tantalus Depths and pre-order a copy.
Till next time, have a great day, and stay tuned to the SideScroller page later this week for my special surprise!
