HARDBACK v PAPERBACK - FIGHT!

Last week I sent a questionnaire out to all of the AGELESS campaign backers which was about the direction that the book will ultimately go.  Two major questions were asked: Hardback or paperback, and which cover tickles your fancy?

Thank you for all your responses, and here's the results...

Hardback vs. Paperback - Winner = PAPERBACK with almost 65% of the vote.  The consensus was that the cheaper price would appeal to a larger audience and be more marketable.

AGELESS will be coming as a paperback next spring (And for those of you that ordered at hardback prices of $25.99, I have been told that you will be getting the difference returned to you.  Initial backers, remember your investment was only $10).

The release date is tentatively May, 3rd, 2016.

As for the cover...well, it's still being tweaked (with you very valuable input) and I will show you the finished product when I can.

So if you are following and you haven't bought, let's make a plan to purchase.  I need your help.  It's true.  I can't do this alone.  I need you.

Let's make Friday, Nov. 6th AGELESS day!!  If you haven't pre-ordered, let's do it then. 2:00 PM wherever you are, help me reach #AGELESS1K!  Convince one friend.  Just one.  Read them the synopsis.

Imagine that you never aged—that you would forever remain young and vital, impervious to the ravages of time. For Alessandra, a woman whose genetic code keeps her eternally young—perhaps even making her immortal—this fantasy is a reality.

But it’s not as idyllic as it seems.

Her rare condition only leaves her feeling isolated and fearful of what her circumstances really mean for her future. And Alessandra has every reason to be afraid. After many years in captivity as the subject of Nazi science experimentation, she’s haunted by the memories of her exploitation and desperate to keep her identity a secret. This proves to be exceptionally difficult when impassioned CIA agent Mark Richards develops an unhealthy obsession with capturing her.

After decades of fleeing from her enemies, Alessandra finds a devoted ally in Grey Chapman. But can she learn to trust another after all she’s been through?

Ageless is a thrilling journey that spans decades and asks the question: If you could live forever, would you want to?

Thanks for everything!  You guys are the greatest.

    I MISSED MUSEDAY I'M SORRY

I need to make you a mix for Tom and Hope next; these are characters you haven't met yet. They're Earthan and ridiculously awesome. You're going to love them.

Tom is an alien conspiracy theorist who mostly goes around debunking other people's stupid theories and pissing everyone off, and Hope is a Homeland Security Agent who kicks a LOT of ass (even though she can't stop spilling food on herself).

In the meantime, here's an update snapshot of that poster I'm making:

Just one more character to add... who will it be???

    Upcoming events:

Don't forget to come to my reading at the Acadia Cafe this Sunday for the MN Speculative Fiction Writers 2015 Local Author Showcase at 3pm!

We're going to get a better recording of this reading than the one last week (I'm still debating posting a link to that one; the audio's not great).

(Ok FINE, if you want to see what was inspiring me yesterday, it's just this song over and over. I listened to it about, oh, 90 times, and now I have a plan for several key scenes in books 2 and 3. Somebody's gonna betraaaaaaaay someoooooone...)

    :)

      Hello, followers new and old!

Thank you, everyone who made Friday a really good day. It was amazing! I appreciate all of the support so much, whether through pre-orders or follows or encouragement.

Are you wondering how the reading at Mugshots on Friday went? It was GREAT! There were around 20 people there, which was a small enough crowd for me to talk to everyone there. I realized that my trivia questions were way too hard (I thought they'd be too easy!). Renee won even though she could only remember three characters from Firefly. Congrats, Renee!

Special thanks to Leah (seen above right, interviewing me), who is a shining star, and Ben Saine, who directs a pretty awesome cafe.

      NEXT UP:

I'll be reading at the MN Speculative Fiction Writers 2015 Local Author Showcase on Nov 8th at the Acadia Cafe! I only get seven minutes, so I'd better make it good.

The event starts at 3pm and you are all (obviously) invited! I expect all the Canadians to carpool.

Finally, here's a progress snapshot of that Ladies of Scifi poster I'm drawing as a prize for my coloring contest:

I'm going to add Leia and another surprise foundational woman of scifi, just because apparently I can't stop! Alex wants to do some digital color over the pencil; we'll see what we can come up with.

Thanks again, new readers/followers. I'm glad you're here!

      :)

        Something new!

The image below is a link to my first screen capture writing video on my YouTube channel. Click on it to view the video, where I take you on a tour of the Blood Dawn manuscript and the process I use to write the story.

This video is the first of what I hope will be many videos where I record my writing session and highlight different aspects of the techniques I use to write epic fantasy. As you will no doubt see in watching this video, I intend it to be informal and unscripted. Imagine you are sitting with me in a coffee shop and I am telling you about my book -- that's exactly the sentiment I'd like to create with this video.

Please leave me comments, good or bad (if they're bad don't worry; I'm a writer, I have alligator skin). I will use comments to help me improve future videos, and to get ideas for things to include.

Enjoy! And if you want to see more, please subscribe to my channel so you can get notified when I release new ones.

        Back to writing.

          Hi friends,

A quick note to remind you that today at 3pm EST (noon PST), the pricing and goal structure of my project currently funding on Inkshares will change. While my goal will go down from 1000 pre-orders, the price will go from 9,99$ per copy to 20,00$ per copy. Each is a gorgeous physical copy with free domestic shipping and will be signed. Today is the last day where the prices of the old model overlap the benefits of the new one. So I urge you; go pre-order ‘A God in the Shed’ on Inkshares.

Also, if you want to hang out at Can*Con this weekend, I should be wandering from one panel to the next. I’m on a panel on crowdfunding Sunday at 2h30 pm in Salon D. I’ll also be meeting with people at the Three Brewers in downtown Ottawa (240 Sparks Street) and you’re welcome to join us for a beer and some nerding out.

That’s it! I won’t bother you with anything more today but wish you a great weekend!

            G. Derek Adams liked an update for These Old Bones

Here's a little update just in time for fall's farewell. Enjoy.

“I can do that and more,” Tomm said.

Once when he was younger he had caused a maple tree to go through all four seasons in a single day. He still remembered the look in Gran’s eyes when the tree dropped its fiery leaves with what could only be described as a languid sigh, only to bud moments later, white-pink flowers bursting forth and falling in spirals all around her. She had shed a tear from the sheer beauty of the fragile moment, all of the motions in the life a tree, splayed out like words on a page in a script that only nature could decipher, and yet, somehow her grandson had scrawled a sentence of it perfectly. Even then, Tomm did not fully understand what had happened. Gran explained to him that his Calling was a separate song within him that broke free from time to time and wouldn’t do his bidding until he disciplined his mind with more training. Confused by this, he asked her if he had done poorly. “Oh, no, my little Toad,” she had reassured him. “You have done a splendid thing.”
