NAME THAT HERO!

It’s contest time, fans and friends. Time to put your name up in lights!

But first, a little housework.

  • If you have not joined Beneath White Clouds’ Facebook page, you should! It’s a good spot to catch more news and pick up posts to share out to your own feeds, so you can help raise awareness and get this book to publication!
  • Voting on cover art continues! There are 4 to choose from, and right now the Classic Split-World cover is in a clear lead. If you haven’t voted, cast that ballot. If you have... do it again! Fun fact: you can vote as many times as you want. Stuff that ballot box!

Now onto the juicy story! I’m going to re-name George after one of you! Yep, there are two protagonists in this tale, and one of you gets to be him/her. I can’t take this to the presses with the guy named George. If you can’t guess why, you’re too young. Let’s just say that the name “George” is just a little too close to the mark. So I’m going to rename him after one of you.*

How?

Anyone to place a super-reader order (3+copies ordered) by Sunday, Oct 2nd (by midnight pacific time), will have their names put into a randomization engine (which may or may not be a hat). One of the lucky ones will be selected to have George re—named after them.

Now you might wonder, “What if the winner’s name is totally feminine, like Samantha or Kisha or something?”

Well, then, it’ll be time for a social experiment of sorts. George is written as a male. If I end up with a feminine name for him, then he’ll go "under the knife", so to speak.

I’ll change all pronouns and references to match his new gender, and might have to adapt a few gags, but otherwise I’ll leave his/her character, dialogue, behavior all the same.

That’ll be interesting to see, won’t it? Get those orders in - all supporters will be acknowledged in the book, but only one of you will get to be this guy:

I mean, srsly, who wouldn’t want to be that guy? Looks like one happenin’ dude right there. Guy’s got it going on.

*:  If you win, and your name happens to be George, we’ll figure something out. Re-name George after your Mom or Goldfish or something.

    A. White liked an update for Fae Child

    Hello dear Readers (and Followers),

Fae Child is nearly at 60 orders! Just two more orders and I’ll draw a Reader’s name to win one of those adorable stuffed animals from the last update. You know you want one. In case you forgot what they look like…

How can you resist?? For $10 you could have a copy of Fae Child as an ebook AND a dragon. I mean, come on. What other book is offering you your VERY OWN DRAGON? None of them!*

The FantasticInk contest ends at the end of October, so we have one more month to gain in the standings. If we keep the preorders steady we will get higher than the 20th place we’re in right now. My campaign will be running until the end of the year, but the higher we place, the more recognition Fae Child gets and the more eyeballs on it, the more orders, etc etc.

It’s been a rough week emotionally, but I’m going to be cliché and keep calm and carry on. Every day with a pre-order is the best day, and every day without one is the worst. It’s been a rollercoaster! With 94 days left in the campaign, Fae Child needs just over 2 orders a day to reach Inkshares’ light publishing goal. WE can do it. I can’t do it on my own. I need your help to get the word out on your social networks.

Thank you for believing in me and my book.

    ~ Jane-Holly

      A. White liked an update for Murder at the Veterans’ Club

Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to present the ground floor plan for the Veterans’ Club.

Not shown: fireplaces. Yes, there are multiple fireplaces, because this place was built in a time before proper central heating. Possibly it has been renovated since, but there are still fireplaces. And if you’re wondering why a gentlemen’s club has what is clearly a ladies’ restroom: the gentlemen members do bring ladies in to dine from time to time, and may God have mercy on their souls if a lady has no place to powder her nose.

(I do invite comments and criticism on this plan. I confess that I have not actually made an in-depth study of the club building layouts around St James Place.)

Meanwhile! How are we doing? The third Peterkin Investigates game is still in production. I hope to have it out before Friday ... some of you may be aware that IFcomp 2016 begins on 01 October, and everyone who plays these things will be playing and judging the competition games. So I’d like to get my game out before that flood begins. I may have to make a rare mid-week update just to announce the game.

      Watch this space, folks!

This is a difference sort of update! :-)

Last week we traveled up to our Ohio homeland to participate in the mass-baptism of our 6 grandchildren! It is always great fun when the family can get together for any reason, and few are much better than a joyous occasion like this!

In the picture is the newest member of the family, baby Olivia, and me!

        Life is great!  :D

Without having looked at your book... I’d say write it regardless.

This is some advice that I got from a literary agent at a writing conference I attended, just this past weekend: You should write something that you enjoy writing, rather than worrying about whether it is a story that readers are currently interested in or have an appetite for.  Generally, any idea can be a good idea, if executed well.  If you are enjoying writing your story, your passion will shine through and readers will enjoy it.

That being said, I will have a look at your book ideas when I have more time, later this week :)
