All,
As you know, the funding goal for The Janus Girl wasn't met. Those of you who know me personally are aware that my family and I had a challenging summer--and while we're in a better place now, those challenges really prevented me from pursuing any of the social media plan I had devised at the onset of the project.
Checking in on the project periodically, I did notice some trends that have informed my go-forward strategy. First, I believe that the length of the book is a bit off-putting for some. While it's a light read, it isn't--at roughly 550 pages--a short one. So when I move forward, I'm going to take advantage of a natural break--a cliffhanger roughly 55% of the way into the book--to break it into two novels. I think a 280-ish-page first installment will be a bit more accessible.
Second, I've noticed that there is a lot of competition among science fiction manuscripts on Inkshares and that it can be a struggle for any one of them to meet funding goals. For that reason, I'm likely going to pursue a different platform to publish the two installments of The Janus Girl. But I've noticed that non-fiction manuscripts tend to fare much better. So I'm going to try a different manuscript that I wrote during some down time a couple of years ago. It's a how-to guide to improving your child's day care experience and it's based on my many years spent teaching pre-schoolers. I think it's the type of book that might perform better on this platform. It's called "Daycare Decoded"--please keep an eye out for it. And please keep an eye out for the first installment of the retooled Janus Girl.
Thank you so much for your continued support and encouragement!
