It’s kind of just the nature of the beast that people are generally going to be really positive with their critiques unless specifically asked not to be. At least for people who are currently funding, anyway. We want as many new followers as we can get, so we don’t really want to step on each others’ toes and make people mad at us. It’s kind of an unfortunate inevitability. Some people may say they want harsh criticism when they’re really overconfident in their story and can’t see there being much to critique, then when it comes in they still get defensive and take it personally.
I, for one, welcome criticism of the most brutal variety. I’m not here to push my vanity project, I’m here to get a story ready for readers and to land it on bookshelves. A lot of people see it that way too, but when you’re critiquing someone else who you don’t know personally, it’s hard to tell what kind of criticism they’re willing to take.
One thing I know I’d love to see is a "Save to Kindle" extension for Word. Once I get a few more programming chops, I might well try to put one together, or perhaps create a standalone one-step publisher that abstracts away a lot of the annoying knobs-and-dials configuration that you have to go through to get decent results.
We had a wonderful time at our Itchy Pig book signing and reading event at Barnes & Noble in Wilmington, NC. Thank you all for your support. We feel truly blessed! More events to come. We would love to meet you and your family!
