I asked about this feature a while back and the answer I got was that it’s not on the immediate plan for the site. That’s why I decided to go ahead and provide my own solution, as I see it as a passive push for conversion from follower to backer. I don’t have the resources to give out swag like
@Tal M. Klein did, so I’m working with what I have.
In the past I’ve tried to lure conversion with additional content. For instance for Shadow of the Owl/Panther backers I sent them the original graphic novel short. Trouble was it wasn’t about the thing they were backing (I mean it was, but it didn’t make them feel special in any way) so there wasn’t much incentive.
At this point I am trying to build my email list so I can start a true author platform, and trading access to the entire draft in exchange for a preorder works only if I can also get them to sign up for the email list -- since spam laws are very strong in this country.
To anyone who already has set up their author website, I recommend this method of keeping your readers excited about the work. Drip feeding is a great technique to build anticipation, and going forward I hope to employ it again with future projects.
