Robert Batten liked an update for Kill Creek

    Hello all,

You probably forgot you were beloved supporters of my horror novel, KILL CREEK, didn’t ya?  Well to say that things have been crazy this summer would be a massive understatement, but I’m happy to tell you that rewrites of KILL CREEK have gone well, and the book is now with an incredibly talented and much appreciated copy editor.  There will still be tweaks to make and last minute notes to address, but KILL CREEK is still on schedule to hit bookstores, on-line vendors and your hands/tablets at the end of this October!

I can’t truly express how excited I am to get this mutha out into the world.  It’s changed quite a bit since I uploaded the first 50 pages to Inkshares last year, but it’s all in the name of strengthening character and plot to give you the absolute best horror novel possible.

Expect more updates as we hit the last few milestones!

    Best,

    Scott Thomas

Robert Batten liked an update for The Last Faoii

Greetings, Faoii! I have a few updates and a little bit of reminiscing to do for the moment. Listen up!

So, a year ago I did possibly the craziest thing I could in my FAOII journey so far. I refunded all of your money so that we could try again, but with the hopes of winning the largest contest on Inkshares to date. It was insanity, Faoii. Insanity! Who gives up on all the help they’d already garnered so they can start again from 0? But you know what? It was worth it. We didn’t win that contest, but we made it to the top 5. We lost a lot of soldiers that had pledged their support during the first phase but never came back during the second-- but their lost battle cries were quickly filled in and drowned out by those of new soldiers that joined the ranks. I was so scared a year ago. I thought I was making a terrible mistake. But I also thought it could be worth it. It was.

Today I’ve just sent off the Final (FINAL! Can you believe it??) interior proof of The Last Faoii to Inkshares. It’s done. It’s perfect. It looks like a real book! Correction, Faoii. It IS a real book. I am... surprised at how much that struck me, to see it like that. I hope you end up feeling the same way when you get your own copy, since you were as much a part of this process as I was. I’m also working on the finalized cover so that it’s ready to go, too.

So things are happening, Faoii! We’re almost there. Keep your shields up and don’t forget to let other potential warriors know about our army. This story is worthy of being told, so find people who’d be willing to hear it.

Robert Batten liked an update for Sunshine is Forever

I’ll never get to hold my debut novel for the first time again, and that’s awesome.

Last week I went up to Inkshares headquarters in Oakland to sign all of the preorders. Each preorder has a number signifying that you were one of the first four hundred people to preorder a paperback.

And there’s more good news! The books are shipping today! You’re getting the book before it even comes out because you are awesome!

I hope you are happy with the product! Please be sure to rate the book on Goodreads as soon as you finish. After August 29th I’ll send out another update asking you to review the book on Barnes and Noble and Amazon as well. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/33534889-sunshine-is-forever

My next book KARID will go up for preorders soon after Sunshine is Forever is officially released. Be sure to follow the book so you can get a unique signed paperback of KARID, too. Follow here: https://www.inkshares.com/books/karid

Thank you for your continued support,

Robert Batten liked an update for The Slave Prince

          It’s August again.

One year ago, The Slave Prince entered the Geek & Sundry Fantasy Contest. Boy oh boy, weren’t those days fun? I remember hustling you for support, checking my book’s status daily, and worrying if I could tough it out till October. It sure doesn’t feel like a year ago with such an experience. But, I’m glad I did it all.

One year later - this very month itself - The Slave Prince begins production. Yes, the ball is rolling! But as much as I’m celebrating, I have my work cut out for me. And I have to say, it’ll take a while before the book will be in print.

A week ago I received developmental notes from Inkshares’ Story Head, and just last Wednesday I responded with my rewrite outline. To make The Slave Prince better, some scenes have to be changed, more world building needs to take place, and a deeper drive must be given to the characters. So, I’ve decided to put writing the sequel of my trilogy on hold to focus on this novel. And I hope, I really hope, that I’ll be able to get the book ready for copyediting by the end of this year.

With all that said, there’ll be silence in the coming months. But the next time I write to you, I should be done with developmental editing. Now, it’s time I put my gameface on - it’s time I finish this race.

As you might remember, DragonCon is one of the largest annual pop culture conventions in the country. Thank you so much for everyone who helped get us nominated! But that was only the first half of this battle. Now, I’m going to have to ask each and every one of you to cast your vote for Space Tripping. This is huge. Here’s how you do it:

            1. Go to awards.dragoncon.org

            2. Click "register to vote"

            3. Fill out your name and email address

            4. Make sure you click the box next to "Check to verify you want to sign up for the Dragon Con Award voting process." Because that’s, you know, the whole point of this thing ;)

             5. You’ll receive a ballot via email... and gee willikers, folks, it’d sure be swell of ya to cast your vote for Space Tripping.

            Thank you so very much

Robert Batten liked an update for After Death

              Hi, everybody!

A while back, Jessica Rothert, an actress with whom I share a bunch of mutual friends, reached out to me to let me know that, unbeknownst to me, she had decided to record the first chapter of AFTER DEATH for her demo reel, as an example of her reading an audiobook.

She sent me a copy of her recording, and hearing it was such a moving experience for me that I wanted to share it with all of you!

Click the image below to check it out on YouTube:

Give it a listen on your drive home tonight, or on your hike tomorrow, or while you’re working out. If you like what you hear and haven’t yet ordered a copy of the book, please consider doing so!

              Thank you so much!

              Dan
