A.C. Weston liked an update for The Sleeping Man

I honestly didn’t think I would have a reader update so quickly, but here I am. In 24 hours, I’ve had 26 preorders and while it is upsetting I didn’t hit 250 immediately... THANK YOU!

I attempted to record a new video for TSM homepage on Inkshares, and, well, you should just see what I had to work with. In the video I attempt to tell people that I have already finished the book and am currently working on the second draft right now. That means when we hit the funding goal, the book will follow shortly after.

I’m planning to get this done before November 2016 because I will be stationed to a ship out of San Diego and deployed who-knows-where doing who-knows-what (I’m an IT Technician, so it will be a lot of, "Have you tried turning it off and back on again in a classified way?").

So many people have already recommended and shared on Twitter, Facebook, and Inkshares, it has made my day. I need everyone’s help getting the book out to the people I don’t know. For my part, I will continue to comb Inkshares, leave reviews, pre-order when I can, and keep working, but if the first 24 hours are any indication, this is going to be no problem.

Sweet Dreams,

Stephen Carignan

P.S. If you saw the video, Emma says hi.

It might also depend on the length of your chapter. The guy who stopped at 8 chapters may actually have less up there than the guy who stopped at 3. My opinion is that the first uploaded chapter (not necessarily the first chapter of the book) is the most important: it’s the one visitors see first, and I suspect that a lot of people make their decisions based on that chapter alone, without looking at the rest. Anything else after that is supplementary: in case someone wants/needs to browse some more before being convinced.

It might be worthwhile to consider what @Kyle James did with his uploads for "Not Afraid of the Fall": instead of uploading full chapters, he uploaded a lot of very short excerpts taken from various points in the book; a few are only a paragraph or two. On the plus side, he gets to pick and choose the tastiest morsels of his text; everything is bite-sized and feels like nothing, so the reader has no problem eating them up like potato chips; and it gives a broad overview of a lot of different places in the novel. On the minus side, seeing a long list of "chapters" is a bit daunting, and might discourage people from looking at all, if they think each is going to be a full-length chapter.

I use the "Search" a lot. It’s great to not only find new books, but also great way to sort the ones I know exist and am looking for to comment or check up on, etc. I also REALLY like the top down scrolling. Not really a fan of the side scrolling of the "Discover" page. I’m going to agree with @Elan Samuel  "- I’m not sure about other folks, but I find the side-scrolling mechanism (like the Bookshelf and Browse pages) to be a slow browsing experience that doesn’t draw me toward any title in particular."

All in all, love the search function and would love to see some of the "discover" options on the far right hand side of the "search" page, i.e. "Recommended by Inkshares Readers", "Staff Picks", "Syndicate Picks", "Trending" and "Funding" etc.

Hope that helps! Thanks for all your work on this site, it really shows! Looking great!
