Brian and Michelle Guthrie liked an update for Tantalus Depths

Friday update! That means its time for my first vlog! Which means it’s time for my first nightmare with editing and rendering problems galore...which means it’s more like an early Saturday update.
But whatever, here it is:

Also, in case I haven’t yet made it literally impossible to forget, please place your pre-order for Tantalus Depths if you haven’t already!

Brian and Michelle Guthrie liked an update for Mission 51

Here is another fantastic rendering of an iconic image from Mission 51. In this scene, Petrus presents the finished ship, Janusia, to his son Mat. Artist Chris Pyke has captured it beautifully, a touching moment between father and son, the continuation of a painful goodbye. - Chris, all I can say is... Wow!!!

Brian and Michelle Guthrie liked an update for Blurred Weaponry (Saints of the Void, Book 1)

        Hi, everyone :)

Just a quick update to show off an image I forgot about. This is every major and minor character in Blurred Weaponry. It’s not quite perfect, with some characters needing different hair or natural eye color (a bunch of these people have silvery-gray or gray-tinted eyes in the book), and it’s definitely not how the characters look in my head, but it’s a fin thing. Here you go:

Also, there’s the occasional emphasis via italics that’s missing from the uploaded chapters, but unfortunately Inkshares’ "upload chapter" option or even copy-pasting completely negates that stuff, which quite frankly needs to change. Sorry about that, and I’ll have downloads for those chapters available next week that has the formatting fixed.

I’ll also be looking at a lot of Inkshares updates over the next couple of days too, so you’ll find my “likes” on tons of projects. And as soon as I’m not ultra-broke, I’ll be supporting more books and joining a syndicate or two.

Thanks to those that follow, and I’ll have some stuff for y’all to see and read next week!

        Peace out,

        Michael Valdez

Brian and Michelle Guthrie liked an update for The Talkers are Talking

          Hello Everyone!!

I know it has been a while since I last updated, but that is only because there has been so much happening!

First, check out the best syndicate in town, Break the Bechdel with Strong Female Characters! We have some incredible books up for our June nomination with And the Wolf Shall Dwell by Joni Dee coming in first place at the moment, followed closely by Devil’s Call by J. Danielle Dorn and Last Faoii by Tahani Nelson. If you haven’t read a couple of chapters from these projects, I promise you, you are missing out. Want a copy of the winning story and to be part of a great group of people looking to bring strong and real female characters to light? Join by the 14th to have your vote count!

Next, I am part of a wonderful new project called Tale Spinners and I think a lot of you might be interested. We are a coalition of writers, artists, musicians, and creators of all types (we are currently looking for a comic book artist to illustrate some snippets), who are trying to bring great free art and lit to readers once a month. Eventually, we would like to ghost write for anyone with a story to tell, but that is still in the works. If you want free short lit sent to you once a month, or if you are interested in joining, check out and subscribe now (or DM me on Inkshares):
          http://www.talespinnersstories.com/

And lastly, Talkers has been sent to beta readers and soon will be undergoing developmental edits (we are still shooting for an October or November release date, but I want to make sure Talkers is the best it can be, so that is dependent on edits)...

          and perhaps even more exciting...

I have found the incredible husband and wife duo who are currently creating the cover for The Talkers are Talking! I stayed at their home once while I was traveling through Wales and was immediately struck by their work. 4 years later, I found they have joined Annika’s graphic design talents with Ben’s phenomenal artistic ability to create book covers, magazine work, music art, logo design and more. Check out their amazing work here:

          http://www.trustfundart.co.uk/

And here is a sample mock-up they made, so you can get a taste of their style (and what to expect in Talker’s future):

          Much love to all,
          Janna

              Team Pirates!!

Hope your week is going well! Quick update: I’m now incorporating edits from Beta Reader Tom, so things are right on track!

I came across this list while surfing during my kid’s afternoon nap break.  Neil Gaiman is one of my favorite writers, and I thought this was very interesting and helpful. Inspiring, even.

I hope it gives you all the feels:

8 Rules of Writing from Neil Gaiman

              1. Write.

              2. Put one word after another. Find the right word, put it down.

              3. Finish what you’re writing. Whatever you have to do to finish it, finish it.

              4. Put it aside. Read it pretending you’ve never read it before. Show it to friends whose opinion you respect and who like the kind of thing that this is.

              5. Remember: when people tell you something’s wrong or doesn’t work for them, they are almost always right. When they tell you exactly what they think is wrong and how to fix it, they are almost always wrong.

              6. Fix it. Remember that, sooner or later, before it ever reaches perfection, you will have to let it go and move on and start to write the next thing. Perfection is like chasing the horizon. Keep moving.

              7. Laugh at your own jokes.

              8. The main rule of writing is that if you do it with enough assurance and confidence, you’re allowed to do whatever you like. (That may be a rule for life as well as for writing. But it’s definitely true for writing.) So write your story as it needs to be written. Write it honestly, and tell it as best you can. I’m not sure that there are any other rules. Not ones that matter.

And now for some hard science:

                Hey Everyone,

Pixilated Obsidian Roses has been selected for the new Library of Alexandria collection. I’m thankful for the invite. We hope that with our combined efforts we can get the book to at least a Quill status (with all your support, of course). Here a part of what has been said by the collection lead:

"This is one of those rare books that speaks to the reader. The imagery R.F. Martin uses is poignant and provocative. The way he has created this creeping sense of dread throughout the chapters that are up is pervading. He has obviously spent the time to create a detailed and well thought out world for the characters, inventing back stories, interspersing memorabilia from their lives in a way that makes you forget it’s fiction. Chernosoren hovers around the edges of the main characters like those dark shadows that H.P. Lovecraft made famous - the feeling of some unknown sinister motive is present, but not overwhelming, preferring to sneak into you and wait for the moment to reveal itself. If the writing is any indication, the reveal won’t be some explosion of action or flurry of plot points, it will be insidious."

We also put up some new cover art.

Thanks to all of you who have supported the project.

                Rob

                  Hello Friends

Until today I divided my life into 3 chapters:

The days of love and pain:

My childhood is filled with sweet memories of a big and loving family, but also terrifying episodes of bullying. I grew up knowing I was different, and other children noticed it and tortured me because of it.

The days of daze and confusion:

In the 90’s I found my tribe and with them came excesses and poor decisions. Those were days of amazing successes and epic failures. Those were the days when I met the first guy I ever loved and the days when I lost him too.

The days of death and rebirth:

In 2001 I came to the U.S. with one suitcase, broken English and delusional dreams. In the next fifteen years, the party boy in me died; killed by poverty and maturity.

While I started re-imagining myself, I also met the most amazing man, and I convinced him to marry me.

                  Today a new chapter starts:

The days of creating and sharing:

This morning Too Many Controllers hit its Quill funding goal, which means that, independent of the results of the Nerdist contest, the anthology I’m part of will be published.

I have a book coming out his year and one in 2017.

When something as unexpected and special like this happens you need to take a moment to thank for the life you have and for those who make it possible.

So thank you to all of you for launching a new and exciting chapter in my life.

                  Have a fantastic day!
