The Paperback Verison of Nemeton: The Trial of Calas is Live on Amazon!

I got the news from Amazon last night, the 6x9 paperback is available and will arrive in time for Christmas! You can purchase it here...

The Kindle Version is still available for $.99 or for free on Kindle Unlimited

Here is an excerpt from the book to give you a taste!

By my blood, I will not cease my service,
By my blood, I will break the bonds,
By my blood, I will bring forth justice,
For father, my people, and all.
As she sat in darkness, repeating her blood oath a warm light enveloped her. She sensed the stone draw from her the venomous anger and rage that had entrapped her. She focused pouring her anger, hate, and sadness into the stone and watched as it transmuted to singular purpose.
“Rage is a material, a material that can be forged into righteous purpose. Create a weapon within your mind, steel yourself and resolve to end that which was taken so much from you. If you do this, nothing will stand in your way.” said the warlock. “What you hold in your hands Samsara is the ancient stone of the Kings of Men. It will show us the way, it will show us the one who bears the mark of redemption, the one who will rend the bonds. It contains the memories of all things long since past. With it you cannot be defeated. It has chosen you to be the one, the steward of the throne, until the rightful body can take its place upon it.”
His words seemed to cause the stone to vibrate. Samsara gripped the stone. Falbanach spoke to her in the ancient language. As he did, she began to understand the stone’s power. It spoke to her. It showed her the ancient battles of the heavens, the past as it truly happened. In her hands was the power to change the world, she but had to have the resolve to use it.
“Listen to its wisdom and it will show you the proper path,” he said.
Samsara closed off all other thought. As she fell into the power of the stone, she saw a small glimpse of her future. She stood before her future self. Though her future did not speak to her, she could tell the place her path carried her was one not of brokenness or pain, but of righteous fury against the forces that had destroyed her world.
With her vows complete and her purpose realized, Samsara sat in the center of her cell in contemplation, forging a spiritual blade she would wield against the forces of chaos until she no longer drew breath. In her alchemical laboratory of the mind, she toiled and transformed herself into a living weapon.

Exciting news! My new author website is now live! Check out https://deborahmunroauthor.com to see all the great content.

For the past couple of months, I’ve been working with my web designer, Mary Ann Aschenbrenner of Waterlink Web to create a fabulous new website to promote my book, tell you more about me as a person, share my other publications, provide interesting and meaningful content on how to use social media for marketing, discuss science related to APEX (https://www.inkshares.com/books/apex), and provide a portal to connect with me on various social media platforms.

You can even connect with me on my business website and LinkedIn to learn more about my professional life and research interests. So, don’t be shy, as I’m basically giving you permission to stalk me online (just not in person).

Currently, there are seven publications and three blogs posted on my website, and more will come every week.

The ability to sign up for my blog is now live, and the ability to subscribe via email is coming soon. I’m also working with Christopher Lee, author of Nemeton (click on link to purchase on Amazon), to update my video trailer, and that will be online soon.

If you’re on social media, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or LinkedIn, please feel free to share anything you find interesting with your followers. Also, on the Home page, you can link to any of these platforms and follow me to get instant updates of new content.

As for APEX book news, my manuscript rewrite is coming along. I have reworked over 35k words, and I’m on a roll. Creating this website was a priority, as it’s important that I begin advertising well before my novel is released. I’ve tapped out all my friends and family, and now I’m launching into the great online unknown to find my fans and readers worldwide.

Thank you as always for your faithful support and encouragement! I continue to strive to provide you the best book I can possibly write.

You can send me an email using the contact page, or directly at dmunro@deborahmunroauthor.com. I’d love to hear from you.

    Cheers, Debbie

Fernando Crôtte liked an update for Crow’s Gambit

      Greetings Supporters of Crow’s Gambit.

As I start the process of working on the book to follow Crow’s Gambit I am writing a series of vignettes. They take place before, during, and after Crow’s Gambit as I work out my thoughts on where the story is going. Some pieces may end up getting stuck in Crow’s Gambit, some may end up in Crow’s Haven (book two), and some will just end on the cutting room floor. I will avoid spoilers as much as possible but they will give hints at some aspects of the story.

We currently need 59 Pre-Orders to get to Quill publishing. If you enjoy the story, are just curious about it, or just want to help me out please make a Pre-Order (if you haven’t) or ask a friend to consider doing so.

Here is Vignette #1, code named Joseph.

Joseph, whose name wasn’t actually Joseph, studied the large building through his goggles. They were more than binoculars. The optics did magnify the image but the embedded electronics and algorithms sharpened the image and adjusted the contrast automatically for him. Three dimensional overlays also provided information from the bots that were slowly circling the building. He had deployed a small squadron of them, mostly small fliers but a few creepers for good measure. In terms of hardware they weren’t anything special. Mostly off the shelf technology. The DPU, or data processing unit, and the software code it was running were what gave them their power. If they were discovered the DPU would automatically fry itself and wipe the software. No one would be able to trace them back to him or his government.

The assignment still made him bristle. He was a senior field operative. Keeping an eye on some American “cowboy” industrialist was beneath his abilities. If Beijing had a specific interest in Darrow Industries they weren’t telling him, and that bothered him. Of course if it was a fluff assignment because Beijing had lost face in him that would be worse.

A flashing yellow icon on his display indicated the A.I. program that was recording and processing the data had found something interesting, at least in a ones and zeros pattern matching sort of way. Shifting the angle of the goggles he zoomed in on the location indicated. Instantly the image resolved itself with additional information and data tags. Two people were leaving the building. He recognized the first as the young woman who had recently been hired by Darrow. The search algorithms had already identified her as Cassie McIntyre. On the surface there wasn’t anything remarkable about her but several flags and inconsistencies in the data had made the algorithms mark her as an enigma. As such she was indicated with a small question mark in the display. However, it was the person with her who was tagged with the flashing yellow icon.

She had her arm around the shoulders of a young boy. He looked to be about sixteen years old with dark hair. Joseph repurposed several of the bots to shift their positions toward the front of the building. It was risky to move so many at once. The building’s security systems were much cleverer than he would have thought. On two occasions he had almost been exposed by the automatic sensor sweeps. Seeing little choice he continued to move the bots closer to get a better look at this boy. A flash of static blinked across his eyes and then a list disabled bots started to scroll down the side. Apparently he’d triggered an automatic defense system. Several of his swarm had been fried by an electromagnetic counter measure.

Joseph sent a recall signal to the remaining bots and started his car. There was no sense in sticking around to see if they sent out a human team to investigate further. On his display a freeze frame image of the boy was displayed. As he watched the pixels adjusted and reformed as the program overlaid more data from multiple bots. The enhancement finished and a red triangle flashed on the image. Next to it another image popped up. Obviously the same person but several years younger. A string of characters appeared and Joseph let out a soft whistle. Maybe Beijing hadn’t lost faith in him after all.

The characters indicated this was an Obsidian level asset. His orders were to pursue and capture if possible. If not then the asset was to be terminated. Interesting thought Joseph. Very interesting.

Fernando Crôtte liked an update for Everything is Normal: The Life and Times of a Soviet Kid

        Dear all,

This is a short update about the publication of "Everything is Normal."

The book is fully finished. At this stage the publisher is reaching out to relevant authors for "blurbs" – quotes about the book to be printed on the front and the back covers. Here are a couple examples received:

“Like walking through the looking-glass into 1970s-80s Leningrad... funny, shocking and occasionally even tender... prepare to be transported back to the CCCP.” —Lisa Dickey, author of Bears in the Streets

“A rare glimpse of life in Soviet Russia before and during perestroika. Everything is Normal is the tender and often funny story of a personal journey paralleled by seismic changes in the country itself. A captivating read.” —Elena Gorokhova, author of Russian Tattoo

In January, the publisher will be sending electronic and physical copies of the book (first off-set print run) to various media players in the book world (editors at the NYT, WSJ, Publishers Weekly, Library Journal, etc.), as well as to top influencers, book reviewers, librarians, etc.  Fingers crossed, it will generate good reviews and interest.

The book is already getting orders from small independent bookstores in the US  almost every day. This is pleasing. It is also already available for pre-orders on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, etc., and for reviews on Goodreads.

        https://www.amazon.com/Everything-Normal-Life-Times-Soviet/dp/1942645902/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1511930598&sr=8-5&keywords=everything+is+normal

So, so far so good. It has been an interesting journey, which is now coming to its conclusion. Thank you very much again for your support, pre-orders and patience. As planned, you will be receiving the books in March.

Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, Happy New Year, and Happy Festivus for the rest of us.

        Cheers,

        Sergey

Thank you for your patience, everyone. This is a big update, but an important one!

              A FULL DRAFT IS FINISHED!!!

Here’s what the timeline has been like:

Throughout the summer, Inkshares has guided me through a developmental edit of the manuscript, guided by my editor, Matt Harry. I’ve been working with a group of other amazing authors as we’ve all helped each other improve the structure of our stories. What I ended up with at the end of this process was a detailed outline of my story, as I decided to rewrite it for the most part.

In mid-September, I got the green light from Matt to go ahead and write the book all over again.

From September through the end of October, I expanded upon the outline I worked on with Matt, writing character sheets involving their personalities and background, as well as fun little things that won’t ever turn up in the story other than being guiding factors in the characters’ actions and decisions. I also wrote in details of the different settings, and I expanded the outline of the story itself into individual scenes. Basically, I was getting to know the world of the story I built. Part of fleshing that out was writing the prologue, which is still up on the book’s Inkshares page.

Approaching November, I made a big decision based on what I learned about my own story. I changed the entire perspective of how it is told. I was writing in third person, as an omniscient narrator, but I felt this was not personal enough. The writing was dry, the humor fell flat, and the characters just felt detached. I was slowing down and feeling a bit uninspired. Then, I decided to experiment with first person, and I wrote a few passages from the perspective of George, the main character in the story. Suddenly, the story felt warm, personal, and it had depth. I was excited for my tale once more!

This was great timing, as November is National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo, for short). For those who don’t know, NaNoWriMo is a free challenge to write a story of 50,000 words within the span of November. I participated, and I sacrificed a lot of sleep, and I completed the task! I FINISHED MY DRAFT! THE NOVEL IS FINISHED!!! And, I kicked NaNoWriMo’s ass by writing 86,298 words in a single month!

              So...what now?

After the initial wave of emotion crashed over me as I typed the last words on the epilogue, I was finally able to talk without choking up. One of the first things I said to my wife was "I have birthed the child, now it’s time to raise it." And that’s actually a great little analogy. The book is here. It is born. It is readable and the story all makes sense. But I need to edit it, nurture it, make it great enough to release. I need to feed it and wipe its butt every time I look into its diaper and find a poop. It needs to be in a condition where, if you don’t like it, then it’s because of completely subjective things, not objective problems such as incoherence, plot holes, characters that don’t really make sense, or, God forbid, typos (gasp!).

So, it’s on to the edits. Right now that means I’m going to be combing through the manuscript myself, but I’m getting by with a little help from my friends. Namely, my wife, and the incredible Peter Ryan (you need to check out his book, for real). I’m hunting down a few others, but if you are reading this and feel excited to give what I have a read in exchange for constructive criticism, don’t be afraid to reach out to me.

I feel that I’ll be able to turn in the latest and greatest draft of this thing to Inkshares by January. I’ll let you know when I get it in. After that, I’ll be able to give you updates on the finishing of the developmental edit, the copyedit, and the proofread. When that happens, we’ll also be getting into fun stuff like cover design and planning book signings and release parties and any other tricks I might have up my sleeve. The release date is estimated to be in September at this point, and I will do my absolute best to make that happen.

I am proud of this story as it is now. It’s fun, it’s funny, but it’s also just a good story. I laughed and cried as I wrote it, though that might just be my crazy showing. I hope when this thing gets into your hands next year, you laugh and enjoy the story. But it’s okay if you cry, too.

Thank you for your support, as always. Don’t hesitate to reach out.

I love you all. For reals.

Merry Christmas, happy holidays, and Happy New Year!

2018 is going to be amazing.

              Love always,

              -Michael.

Fernando Crôtte liked an update for Eudaimonia

                Hello Friends!

I wanted to first wish you a "happy holidays"!

Then I wanted to give you a few updates:
                1. Eudaimonia - everything has been submitted and now we are just waiting. I will let you know as soon as I hear something.

                2. NaNoWriMo- This is the first time I have participated in National Novel Writing Month. My word count at the end of November is 14,247. Now, when you consider the goal of 50,000 words that 14,247 does NOT look all that impressive. 28% achievement of any goal could be considered failure. But, when you consider everything else I was working on in November ( 3 college classes, work, coordinating an office move, needing to eat and sleep) 14,247 words doesn’t seem so terrible after all. AND when I tell you that these 14,247 words were the beginning of the SEQUEL to Eudaimonia, they start looking pretty darn good!
As it is with most things, it is all about how you frame it. But to sweeten the sell, I want you to know that I have an attainable December writing goal of 5,000 words. So, by the end of the year that 14,247 should be 19,247.  That is nearly 20,000 words in the SEQUEL direction. Super cool.

After all of your help and support to get Eudaimonia in the "publishing way," I didn’t want you to think I was ungrateful or had fallen into a hole.  I am working, and I will continue to work (because this whole Eudaimonia- getting -published-thing has given me momentum and made me insufferable to be around.)

Thank you so much (AGAIN) for everything!
I hope you have a wonderful holiday season!

                Your pal,
                Meghan Godwin

                  11/27/17

                  Hello Readers!

I hope those of you in the US had an excellent Thanksgiving holiday. We had a lovely time at our house, but now that the weekend is done, it is time to get back to business.

And for me, that business is getting those final orders in to qualify Devil You Don’t for Quill publishing.

Thanks to the support of several Inkshares syndicates over the course of my campaign, and a few verbal commitments that I’ve received recently, I just need to get 40 pre-orders between now and December 31, 2017.

We’ve come this far -- and I know we can get to the end, but like always (and I know I sound like the proverbial broken record--those of you closer to my age will understand that reference better), I can’t do it alone!

So, I"m asking for your help again...

If you have ordered a copy already, please share my information with someone you know who loves books and ask them to order a copy. Even better? Buy them one for the holidays.

If anyone is ordering a copy to give as a gift, I’m happy to make up a certificate for you to give in lieu of the book until it goes through production!

If you’ve been following my adventures with Devil, please consider grabbing a copy in the next few weeks!

IF I make my funding goal by the end of December, I will be doing another raffle -- I’ll raffle off a $50 Amazon gift card and two signed copies of Darkstar Rising (so that’s three winners).

Thank you all for your continued support!

                  Best,
                  Susan
