I’ve gone through the process of ordering "The Battle for Oz" (woo, summer reading!) twice now, and each time it seems to go okay all the way to the final confirmation page... but then I don’t get a confirmation email and my credits aren’t disappearing.
Is the book out of stock or something? I know the promotion is only while supplies last, but there was no message about it being out of stock.
It is all about personal asks @Charles Moore this is a crowdfunding platform, you have to go out and ask people to donate to your project, in this case your project is a book. You have to switch your pitch from "buy my book" to "support me" that is how you get your friends, family and acquaintances to pre-order. This is about you so when you hear from your cousin "I don’t really read" (who does these days) you can answer "I’m not asking you to read the book, I am asking you to help me become a published author" You need a special kind of personality to do this successfully and you need to be willing to get over your fear or whatever it is that stops you from asking people, following up with people and asking again. Read Tal’s advice, her run a great campaign.
I started off using Pages, but I have now switched to Scrivener, which I highly recommend. It was clearly designed with writers in mind, and makes it simple to create finished books in a variety of formats.
I use Scrivener to write formally and Ulysses to gather ideas. I have a big issue with Ulysses not being able to change its storage location (in a fully featured way,) and that is almost a deal breaker for me. I like to keep all my writing materials backed up to Dropbox in the case of critical failure.
I think the Windows version of Scrivener is far inferior to the Mac version, and that may be a consideration for you. I’ve never found an application that is as good at taking your drafts and rendering it to a Kindle file and reading the work in that format is fairly critical to my process.
