What’s that you say? It’s "Mean Girls’ Day"? You may not even have known that there was such a thing. But indeed: October 4th is "Cinnamon Rolls Day." It’s "National Ships In a Bottle Day." It’s "Taco Day." And it’s "Mean Girls’ Day."  Since we couldn’t let this one go by without any fanfare, we’re celebrating by posting Chapter 4. This is the one that comes right before things get weird. (Weirder?) In other words, the next chapter will begin to reveal how this novel fits into a fantasy contest. We were initially going to wait and post this chapter to celebrate hitting 600 preorders, but with just 5 to go from that milestone, it seems worth celebrating early (crossing our fingers to cross that line soon). But hey--I’m also al for eating dessert before the meal. Life’s short. Better to celebrate prematurely than not at all.

If you’re reading along, happy Mean Girls’ Day! Hope you enjoy. Oh yeah, and THE TOTE BAGS ARE IN! I’m going to figure out how to upload an image of someone stylish rocking one. From here til the campaign’s end, if you order 3 copies, you get a tote bag mailed to you with our compliments (and profuse thanks).

      Warmly,

      ’Lena

        750! THANK YOU!

When I first found out about Inkshares, my goal was to get to 250 preorders and accept the lower tier publishing deal. I honestly did not think I would come anywhere close to 750 preorders. I am in awe of the amount of support, encouragement, and attention my book has gotten so far! Thank you so much for investing in this project. I really hope you love the book when it comes out.

So where do we go from here? I am going to send my manuscript to Inkshares as soon as possible. After they evaluate my manuscript, I will work with my assigned editor to get Sunshine is Forever into the best possible shape. A design team will redesign the cover and interior of the book. After that, the release date will be announced! I will email out updates periodically to let you know where the book is in the publishing process, but rest assured, you will receive your copy when it is ready!

You can help by continuing to spread the word. Just because the funding stage is done, doesn’t mean you should stop telling people about Sunshine is Forever. My next goal is to make Sunshine is Forever a Bestseller. Keep telling your friends!!!

This is the first of many books to come, so I hope that you like Sunshine is Forever enough to preorder/order my next book when the time arrives! If you want to stay in touch, feel free to friend me on Facebook, follow me on Twitter, and Instagram.

As a final note, Jamison Stone (another Inkshares author) was an instrumental part to the success of my campaign. I hope you will check out his book Rune of the Apprentice, which will be available November 1st in stores nationwide. https://www.inkshares.com/books/rune-of-the-apprentice

Thank you all for the help! Crowdfunding is one of the hardest, most rewarding things I have ever done. This is my second time funding a project this way, and it won’t be the last. Inkshares, Kickstarter, IndieGoGo, and Seed and Spark are proving that crowdfunding is the way of the future for independent/undiscovered talent. Please continue to help your friends, because you never know when you might need to ask for support.

I appreciate each and every single one of you. Now I am going to get back to doing what I love, writing.

Erica.Curran liked an update for Witherfist

Hello, all! I am running a small giveaway associated with Witherfist. This is to celebrate not only the final month of the G&S contest but also my appearance at a local convention where I’ll be promoting Witherfist on October 22nd and 23rd!

I will be giving away one £25 / $32 and one £10 / $12 voucher for Amazon to two random readers who order during October. I will select the two winners at random from anyone who orders during this month.

If you have already ordered, you can enter the contest by referring another reader to purchase the book. Additionally, each copy ordered will count as one entry into the contest - so if you purchase a copy and refer a friend to buy a copy, you will get two entries. To refer a friend you can either use the recommend links on the project page or just send me a message to let me know the name of the person you have referred.

While I’ve got your attention, here’s a little teaser of some new artwork of Arren to match the awesome piece of Irusai that I shared with you previously.

You can read about Arren in her excerpt chapter: https://www.inkshares.com/books/witherfist/book_segments/arren-1

Erica.Curran liked an update for Weaponized

              It’s October!!!

This is my favourite time of the year. I hope y’all are watching a horror movie a day. It’s important to get your daily dose of horror.

A quick update again this week. First, we’re still killing it in the CryptTV contest. I can’t thank you all enough for supporting this strange book that is so close to my twisted black heart. It means the world.

Second, I took a lot of your feedback and I rewrote the first chapter and added a new second chapter titled: THE MESSENGER. Read it now, creeps! I know you’ll love it.

Third, I’m still working on some press and other opportunities to spread the word but I need everyone’s help in making this contest huge. I don’t want to slow down just because we’re in first. I’d really like to get to 250 pre-orders and make Quill. Help me get the word out! If everyone could recommend Weaponized to just one friend that would do so much to help out our chances!

Finally, if you are spending the month watching horror movies, allow me to recommend a few. Especially some that inspired this crazy book.

Videodrome - it explores the relationship we have to the media we consume. It is perhaps more relevant now than ever.

The Thing - John Carpenter’s masterpiece of practical effects. It shows us the scariest monsters can still be human.

The Fly - Cronenberg’s tragic love story of a man who wants nothing more than to be a legend. A must see.

Day of the Dead - My favorite of the George A Romero zombie flicks. It offers a slow deconstruction of the human psyche and what the future may hold in a world filled with zombies.

Hellraiser - Clive Barker’s classic. A tightrope walk between pleasure and pain, material and immaterial. It’s influence can be felt on every page of Weaponized.

              Until next week,

              Zac

Erica.Curran liked an update for The Lore of the Aos Sí

I am reaching out today to start a tour of the Lore of the Aos Sí. I will take you on a tour of the antediluvian world. We will uncover the peoples (folks) of Tír na nÓg and Tir nam Beo. We will go on a journey to see the landmarks, cities, towns, and regions of both. We will examine the cultures of the ancient world.

I will start out the series with daily updates that will cover the peoples of Tír na nÓg. First up are the Tuatha Dé.

The Tuatha Dé, House of Starlight, are the preeminent race in the dominions of the antediluvian world. Commonly the Tuath Dé are referred to as the Fair Folk, Fairies, orWingers. They hail from the Fomorian Valley of the realm of Tir na nÓg. The seat of their power resides in the capital city of Formene, otherwise known as the Eternal City. They are ruled by the High King Dagda Starlight, the first druid, who sits upon the Starlit Throne of the Summer Court, to which all races in the realm of Tír na nÓg pay tribute.

The Fair Folk are ageless, immune to most disease, and adept in the arcane arts. Though ageless the Tuatha Dé can be killed and it is said that only weapons that have been twisted by the dark fire can lay a mortal blow against them. They are a prideful, high-born race of people who see themselves as transcendent when compared to the other folk throughout the dominions, especially when it comes to the banal folk/exiled tribes of mankind.

The Fair Folk were born of pure starlight to illuminate the darkness of the First Age. The Sigil of the House of Starlight is a three-pointed star, known to some as the triskele or triquetra which symbolizes the three aspects of the Great Goddess.

As always if you have questions, please reach out. I adore engaging with my readers!

                Cheers!

                Christopher Lee

Erica.Curran liked an update for A Tale of Ghosts and Guardians

It’s October 3rd, Ghosts and Guardians!

Which means a lot of things, but for A Tale of Ghosts and Guardians, it means it’s time for an update!

This week’s monster files spotlight is on the LIVING DEAD, which is a heavily populated category. It includes any creature that was dead for a period of time and is once again up and moving. Zombies, mummies, ghouls, and patchwork creatures fall into this category. Vampires do not, and the reason why will be explained next week.

The Living Dead are brought back without consent. Their resurrection takes a great amount of power and usually holds unforeseen consequences. Magic and godly intervention are the two main vehicles which raise the dead, the other less common one is Man’s perversion of natural science. Due to the various means of resurrection, how the living dead behave will also vary. Some are mindless, some have one purpose (to kill, to reach a destination, to follow the orders of their summoner), and others have the personality and free will from their previous lives. Some will continue to eat, drink, and age as a human would, and others will not age or heal after wounded.

In A Tale of Ghosts and Guardians Hardy, Chris, and Maninder fall under the category of the Living Dead, but their origins, skills, and personalities are very diverse.

I’ve added an excerpt from Chapter Nine: Untangled, the meeting of Chris and Maninder, the only two characters not yet introduced in my sample chapters. Check it out and let me know what you think!

                    Good morning everyone!

I hope your weekend was nice! I managed to do some recovery on Sunday, so I’ve got a bit of energy going into this week. Last week and the weekend was extremely busy! Saturday morning I woke up at 6 AM and went to help set up the booth at the Collingswood Book Festival. Then, I headed off to a help video a wedding. I didn’t get to stay for the whole festival, but I hear great things! At the Festival we gave out cool key bookmarks and small booklets with the first chapter inside. I was also advertising the cover design promotion, which is still going on! I managed to run the booth for the first hour of the festival. It was a bit nervewracking to try and sell people on a book I could not phyiscally give them that day. Hopefully the sample chapter helped.

This Friday I hope to have a treat for you guys! We did a Story By Sentence game. I hope to compile all those sentences from the festival and let you read the story that all the contributors helped write.

Another cool thing? My main character decided to show up and mingle with the crowd! Luckily there weren’t any incidents with disgruntled Ice Mages or unhinged Raukes.

She did get to meet a giant fish, though.

Campaign Update: We are 61 orders away from Quill guys! 61!!! We are still 5th place in the Geek & Sundry Contest.

Speaking of Geek and Sundry.... We were featured on Geek & Sundry in the Here are Five Underdogs In the Geek & Sundry Fantasy Contest article written by Rick Heinz, author of The Seventh Age: Dawn.

I just want to point out that there are 366 entries in the Geek & Sundry Contest and we are 5th (for now, looks like there are some cool books gaining ground). Whether or not we win that Top 3 slot... We rocked this contest.

                    The Prophetess

Throughout history, in great times of need, a prophet has come to a select few and revealed to them the coming darkness. Each time they have appeared differently. This time, she is known only as the Prophetess. She came to Saran’s mother just before Saran was born and revealed to her the prophecy of the Vel d’Ekaru and the Equitas. Rebecca died soon after. Many years later the Prophetess appeared before a sickened Rowe Blackwell. She has been his guide, and he her messenger ever since. But, as the days grow closer to the rise of the Vel d’Ekaru, her visits have grown less frequent. Some even speculate that she was only the figment of Rowe’s guilt-ridden mind.
