How exciting! After the first day of the Nerdist Sci-Fi Contest, Mission 51 is in First Place!

As most of you may recall, I started this project on Inkshares last year, in Feb 2016 to be exact. I had discovered Inkshares at that time and impulsively jumped into a contest that was already half-way through. I had a story in my head and started writing it down. I was thrilled at the early response and amassed a good number of pre-orders, but I was also overwhelmed by the time commitment. Writing the book, campaigning for a contest, and my medical work were really three full-time jobs. I eventually came to the conclusion that to do a good job, I needed the time to complete and refine the novel with as little mental pressure as possible. I took Mission 51 out of funding in August 2016 and Inkshares refunded everyone for their generous pre-orders.

I’m very glad I did that. Mission 51 is now a mature project. It has gotten great feedback from laypersons and professionals who have read samples. Personally, I think it’s a fun read. It is intricate, old-school science fiction which honors a solid foundation of sci-fi lore. It is also a historical fiction and period piece within the time frame of 1954-1969. More importantly, Mission 51 dances around issues of immigration, intolerance, and personal/societal ethics. Those might be heavy issues, but I believe I have kept it light and fun. Aliens help do that! LOL

So, if you supported the project when it was in funding last year, I ask that you please support it again now. Mission 51 is actually way better than it was last year! Your pre-order is essential for it to stay on top of the Nerdist contest leaderboard. The time for Mission 51 has come! The time for your pre-order is now!

Thank you very much!

      Dear supporters,

The first draft of Fae Child is nearly finished. I have been a bit blocked/busy, but I’m eking out what I can, when I can. However, Abbie’s story arc is completed! I am writing her father Dan’s chapters to catch him up with her. It’s a bit of a switch mentally, but once I get going I think it will wrap up quickly.

Quill books ahead of me in the queue are starting to get editors assigned! They are still looking at a production schedule of 6 or so months before they are published, but there is finally some movement. This is great news for those authors, and for Fae Child as well.

Now, I have a favor to ask: Inkshares has started a new Science Fiction contest, sponsored by Nerdist. I have a story already written that just needs editing, and I have decided to enter the contest! Am I crazy? Probably. Please click the picture below and follow Mutants: Uprising. Once it goes live, I would be so appreciative if you preordered. In the meantime, if you could read the sample chapters/excerpts, and recommend or review it on the site.

Mutants: Uprising is written in SECOND PERSON, and I hope you enjoy it! Just following the project is all I ask. Thank you!

      Have a great Tuesday!

Matthew Isaac Sobin liked an update for Deus Hex Machina

        Greetings hexers,

I have a secret that I’ve wanted to share with you, but I haven’t figured out the right way to do it, so I sort of sat on it for a while. Now though, I think it’s time to let you know that Deus Hex Machina is heading into production. Just typing those words gives me a mixture of panic attack and rush of extasy.

A couple of weeks ago I received an email from Inkshares letting me know that DHM, which had been submitted as a final manuscript in December, was going to be part of a new type of production schedule they were beginning this year. It groups authors into teams called cohorts, and sends them through the production process together as a sort of support system. I, along with several other authors, have been placed in Cohort 1. It’s all kinds of amazing.

As much as I want to blab every single detail about what is going on, I’m not sure how much I’m supposed to say about this process, so I’m going to be a bit coy. Do know that things are happening, great things, and all of them will lead to a better book and a better writer behind it.

So when will you get your books, lovely backers? According to Inkshares a Quill book (the base publishing level that DHM is filed under) has a production length of nine months. I haven’t actually received a timeline yet, so I don’t have a publication date for you. I can however surmise based on that general info that DHM should be out sometime early 2018. If I were a betting Mandie, I would say somewhere around late Winter.

I’m not sure how to end this little announcement. I guess I’ll just say thank you so much for believing in me and my little book, and that you will have your book soon, dear friends.
