Greetings, Faoii! I have a few updates and a little bit of reminiscing to do for the moment. Listen up!
So, a year ago I did possibly the craziest thing I could in my FAOII journey so far. I refunded all of your money so that we could try again, but with the hopes of winning the largest contest on Inkshares to date. It was insanity, Faoii. Insanity! Who gives up on all the help they’d already garnered so they can start again from 0? But you know what? It was worth it. We didn’t win that contest, but we made it to the top 5. We lost a lot of soldiers that had pledged their support during the first phase but never came back during the second-- but their lost battle cries were quickly filled in and drowned out by those of new soldiers that joined the ranks. I was so scared a year ago. I thought I was making a terrible mistake. But I also thought it could be worth it. It was.
Today I’ve just sent off the Final (FINAL! Can you believe it??) interior proof of The Last Faoii to Inkshares. It’s done. It’s perfect. It looks like a real book! Correction, Faoii. It IS a real book. I am... surprised at how much that struck me, to see it like that. I hope you end up feeling the same way when you get your own copy, since you were as much a part of this process as I was. I’m also working on the finalized cover so that it’s ready to go, too.
So things are happening, Faoii! We’re almost there. Keep your shields up and don’t forget to let other potential warriors know about our army. This story is worthy of being told, so find people who’d be willing to hear it.

Dear readers,
I am making good progress on my novel, and I’m excited by how it’s coming together. The process of editing takes a long time, but I’m happy to report that my storyboard is almost finished. The editor and I have agreed on the story except for three items where I have additional work to do: I need to strengthen the storyline of one of my key characters, I need to tighten up the action scenes in a couple of crucial places, and I need to work on the theme. Obviously, the theme is the most challenging of these three. However, I am in agreement on what needs to change with the theme and how it needs to be improved to make it consistent with the overall plot. My goal is to make these edits to the storyboard by the end of the week and get the green light to proceed—and then I will begin rewriting the manuscript. Hopefully with all of this pre work, the rewriting will not take that long. I’m excited to get this book into your hand as soon as possible, but I also want it to be the best book it can possibly be.
Writing. Editing. Writing. Editing. That’s been a typical day the last little while (those that’s a lie, I was on vacation for several days last week).
Just wanted to update everyone who has supported me and this book, and are not on the Facebook page, to let you know that things are moving. I don’t yet know when the book will be published but we are in the midst of editing. As progress develops I will let you know!
Now, back to writing! Enjoy your day!
James
Ooh, and don’t forget you can pre-order Cape’s Side Bay still!

Hello horror fans!
There’s so much I want to talk about today, but for simplicity’s sake, I’ll keep it to two thing and both of them are a plea for help.
Please, if you can, review A God in the Shed on Amazon and Goodreads. There’s a long list of reasons why you should do this. Some are marketing, some have to do with the television option, but mostly, you want to win the leather bound copy I’m raffling off when we reach 100 reviews on Amazon.

Wow... for a second year in a row, one of my books is nominated for a Dragon Award. That’s right, A God in the Shed is nominated in the horror category. You can turn this nomination into an actual victory. Just head over to the voting page and fill out the form and when the voting ballot comes in please vote for A God in the Shed.
NOTE: If you don’t know how to fill out the rest of the ballot, here are some suggestions!
Thank you again for your support. I fail as a writer because I can’t conjure the proper words to tell you how much your help has meant.

Hello glorious The Punch Escrow backers!

Greetings, Faoii.
Oh, what’s this? Just a little sneak peek of what’s coming...

Shields up.
Monthly update time for Human Resources!
Last month I mentioned the focus of the developmental edit had been on expanding the world-building and firming up some of the science behind the novel. I’m pleased to report that is now complete, I have new beat sheets and scene outlines, and am officially writing pages again!
Speaking of science, the _MIT Technology Review_ just published a very interesting article on CRISPR being used to edit the DNA of human embryos. Why is this interesting? Because this application of CRISPR is a key trigger for the creation of the world in my novel. I’ve uploaded a special new excerpt to the Inkshares site telling the history of the world, from today to when my novel starts. You can read it here.
In other news, I took advantage of receipt trip to Sydney (the setting for the book), to further explore some of the relevant locations for scenes. I use the apple maps 3D city render, along with google street view extensively, but there’s nothing better than standing on-site. A couple highlights below.

That’s all for now — I need to get back to the manuscript and finish writing it so you can all read it.
Cheers,
Robert.
Hi everybody,
Well, here we are, a little more than one month since The Battle Within’s publication date. I won’t take much of your time as I know it’s the middle of summer.
Thanks again for all the support. The book launch was a success, and the feedback that has been coming in about the story to date has been very positive.
For those who missed the book launch, there’s a book signing on August 19, 2017 at the Chapter’s in Kanata Centrum, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. And for those in southern Alberta, I’ll be signing books at the Irricana & Rural Municipal Library on August 5, 2017, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
If I can ask one more favour, please consider leaving a rating and / or review at the following sites:
Amazon.com: https://www.amazon.com/Battle-Within-Alastair-Luft/dp/194264549X
Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/31922135-the-battle-within
The bottom line is that ratings and reviews help drive exposure and every little bit helps. I’d love to get to 100 ratings on each site and would greatly appreciate your help to do so. Of course, please also feel welcome to send me feedback directly; I’d love to hear what you thought of the book.
I hope everyone is having a great summer and once again, thank you for your support.
All the best,
Alastair Luft
