Hey, everyone. Long silence, I know; haven't had much to say. There's been practically nothing to report.
The momentum from the contest has ground to a halt. Comic Con was a bust. I passed out some cards to artists that I spoke to, who were receptive and willing to share their cards with me, but none of that has led to any more sales, nor greater exposure. Trying to talk to people on the floor, in that morass, was practically impossible (for me).
I got some nice support from Nicholas West, so be sure to check out his book: Cancel the Ark. He believes that I can do this. I'm halfway to the eBook goal and 35% of the way to the print goal. But I simply cannot do it all by myself. I need his support, I need your support, I need the support of people you know.
Please, if you haven't yet ordered, order a copy. If you want to trade pre-orders, get in touch; I've got credits to spare.
Otherwise, I'm continuing to revise and considering my options if this campaign proves unsuccessful.
Hey all,
So it's a little later than originally planned, but Chapter Four is officially up on the page! I hope you all enjoy it. This is where Clara's (and the others') journey really starts and we finally get see how these people interact with each other without the guiding hand of Satan to keep them together (how's that for a weird sentence?). Sorry it took longer than planned, but once again life intervened. Rest assured that I have been plugging away not only on Though Hell, but also it's sequel. What? Sequel? That's right! Not only is Through Hell finally closing in on its final edits, by my hands at least, but I'm very nearly finished writing the first draft of the second book. If having a sequel to read isn't good motivation to help me get Through Hell published, then I don't know what is!
In other exciting news, just last week I got to review a handful of rough thumbnails for potential covers. All of them were great, but I narrowed it down to two that will be getting larger, more detailed versions that I can't wait to see. As huge a part of my life that this book has been for the past year and half, seeing these glimpses of what Through Hell might one day look like on shelves really went a long way toward making this feel like a "real" book. There's only 32 days left in my Inkshares pitch time (hint hint), so the cover likely won't be done by the time it's up, but rest assured, the moment I have a final version, I will find a way to make sure everyone that wants to see it gets to.
Thanks for the patience and continued support and I hope Chapter Four is every bit as much for you to read as it was for me to write.
I also was the first person to call Inkshares "The Future of Publishing!" It's date stamped on their FB page - a couple weeks later the Wall Street Journal apparently liked my post and they used it in an article. - so Inkshares now brags about WSJ using the phrase without attribution to first use - I'm ok with that because the record shows I said it first. WSJ has more promotional juice than I do anyway - I have near zero juice:-)
Enough about me, back to this contest . . .
Entries have started to trickle in, but the addition of new followers has slowed down.
My efforts so far have succeeded in getting the attention of over 50 sci-fi or futuristic fantasy writers. I NEED your help in getting us to 100!
If I can personally drum up interest from over 50 authors, I KNOW that YOU (yes, you!) can recruit at least ONE more.
If each of you (on average) can bring just one writer into this group, then we can double our numbers and get to or exceed our initial goal of having 100 followers here.
Don't wait for the next guy or gal to do it - it's All About You! (I'm looking right at you, right now!) [special embedded code gives me that power]
Hitting that number will trigger two important things.
1. It will set a deadline for submissions (three months out from the day we hit 100).
So please reach out to your contacts in the sci-fi / futuristic fantasy writing world and dare them or challenge them to submit something.
There were 300 something entries for the nerdist competition, so getting to 100 here should be soooo doable. The barriers to entry aren't as daunting either.
#1. You only need a short story, essay or poem, not a novel.
#2. We will probably have around 12 to 15 winners, not 5.
This is a Good Idea - don't let it die!
Thanks!
Richard Saunders
