Good Evening Lovers of the Written Word !

I'm super excited to check in at the end of week #1 of the Sword & Laser with our 30th pre-order. That's an impressive week, much of which we spent in second or third position. Not bad at all! I cannot thank all of you readers enough for the amazing support.

Because we have reached our 30th unique reader, as promised, I will be raffling off the signed copy of Haunted Horror #12. I'll send an update tomorrow with the big winner - but for now, I must call it a night and briefly leave you in suspense.... I know, it's shocking. How about that for a proverbial cliffhanger?!

OK, I'll sign-off for tonight with this: I'm already thinking about something special to raffle away when we reach our 40th reader. I expect I'll announce that tomorrow with the winner of Haunted Horror. Also, don't forget, the super early addition of Kipling's Mine Own People is up for grabs to all supporters when we reach 50.

Now that you've finished this update, time to put your nose in a book! Until tomorrow...

Tony Valdez liked an update for The Crown of Secrets

    Greetings, readers!

Today I'm excited to announce that The Crown of Secrets has started funding again! f BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE!!! If you're Christmas shopping, order by December 24th for some added bonuses! (See below for details.)

I've been continuing to work with the illustrators and will be sharing some brand new art with you in the upcoming weeks, as well as more of the stories. I've also shifted some stories around, so this book will be a large-format hardcover with about 96 full-color pages (it will not include Towers or The Mamo Fragments - more details on that soon).

So the final story list is as follows:

    1. The Crown of Secrets, illustrated by Stephen Rigall
    2. Hunting My Dress, illustrated by Kristin Richland
    3. The Last of the Giants, illustrated by Jake Cochrane
    4. The Tiger and the Rabbit, illustrated by Billie Austin
    5. Tapioca Hunt, illustrated by Jeremiah Christie
    6. Mr Banana's Strange Day, illustrated by Jeremiah Christie
    7. Little Drifters, illustrated by Jake Cochrane
    8. The Evening Day and Grey, illustrated by Kristin Richland
    9. The People of Naphoth Tsur, illustrated by Isidre Mones
    10. The Sea at Night, illustrated by Karen Davie
    11. The Robot and the Goldfish, illustrated by Xiao Ma
    12. Wooden Horse, illustrated by Natalie Slater

Right now the price is super low, so grab it while the grabbing is good. And although obviously the book won't be printed by Christmas, if you need a Christmas present, you can order The Crown of Secrets by December 24th and I'll send you a printable "Future You is getting this book!" certificate and a bonus story that you can give as a gift (or keep for yourself, of course).

As always, your thoughts and feedback are all appreciated. Be well! Keep reading and dreaming and creating!

    Jeremiah

Tony Valdez sent an update for Dax Harrison

      Hey everyone!

My eyes have long since gone cross-eyed and bloodshot over the past couple days, endlessly staring at the computer and pitching my book to every soul on the internet. So I thought I'd take a quick sanity breather and wish you all a happy middle of the week.

DAX COUNTDOWN: 17 days, 68 orders to publishing

I've been surprisingly fairly relaxed as the countdown to the campaign deadline has been steadily approaching. That said, I will now use my aforementioned break time to illustrate my thoughts, in the calm, collected demeanor which those who know me personally are well familiar...

      PANIC! SHEER AND UTTER PANIC!
      IN MUPPETY EXAGGERATION!
IN "DINOSAURS ARE COMING TO EAT US" PROPORTIONS!
      And so on...
      And so on...
      Almost done...
      Little more muppety...
      A little bit Weasley...
      Just a little bit spongy...
Last one. This one is actually more my style.

Ok, moment over. Honestly guys, I'm not that worried. Ok, a little worried. Not THAT worried. But animated GIFs are fun.

To my other authors here on Inkshares, I applaud you and your efforts. This has been my first crowdfunding experience, and it is a dance, a race, sometimes a slog, but also amazing and rewarding.

So authors, readers, and assorted random followers who just happened to follow me back: let's all take a collective deep breath...

Thanks, Sherlock. *over-dramatic-yet-refreshing sigh* All right then, back to the grind.

And if any of you still need help finding your calm, get a trusty friend to give you the Airplane treatment...

Or better yet, just go watch Airplane. That movie is amazing and still holds up.

Tony Valdez liked an update for Women Like Us

Still just a few books a way from 100 pre-orders so if any Inkshares member followers who haven't ordered and have credits to spare...!  Just saying.  Anyway, on to cocktails, always a good subject, huh?  Recipes for cocktails, I mean. I mentioned a possible recipe section at the end of the book featuring food and drink from the story. A lot of people think it's a good idea, not that it hasn't been done (see Nora Ephron's "Heartburn", for instance, for probably the best example). But I like the idea of recipes too. In "Women Like Us", the first cocktail to appear shows up in Chapter 1, and it's a daiquiri. Let's talk daiquiris for a second. Although there's certain a place for them, I'm not talking that frozen kind that's more like a slushee laced with booze. I'm talking the original classic daiquiri, which is a simple connection of rum, simple syrup and lime juice, shaken over ice but then strained. Here's a short history of the daiquiri: by all accounts the daiquiri originated in Cuba around the turn of the twentieth century. It eventually made its way from Havana to Washington DC, and if anybody else is a bit Kennedy-obsessed like I am they'd know that John and Jacqueline Kennedy liked to have evening daiquiris before going on to dinner (which is the way we all should be living). So how do you make a classic daiquiri?  Well, here ya go:

Classic Daiquiri (recipe adapted from epicurious.com)

        2 ounces light rum

1 ounce, plus one teaspoon fresh squeezed lime juice (don't even think of using that bottled stuff)

1/2 ounce simple syrup (mix equal parts sugar, water, bring to boil to dissolve sugar, let cool)

In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine rum, lime juice and simple syrup. Shake vigorously. Strain into cocktail glass and serve. Makes one.

Now go make yourself a daiquiri!  Or order one then next time you're out to dinner, but often you have to tell the bartender how to make the classic so bring this recipe along with you!!
