CHAPTER 4

The mob of Shepherd’s Crook, 1680 edition, stormed the home of the demon, sorcerer, and suspected vampyr Yulric Bile. As mobs went, it was pretty good. No elder went untorched. No young man went unpitchforked. Women wept and gnashed their teeth. John Farthing brought his new gun. John Cross had smithed some chains. Benjamin Moss broke down the door to his 100th citadel of sin, with some assistance from his son, John. Cider was drunk, hymns were sung, and a fine time was . . .

There is no faster way to win my heart than suggest your story might take place in Lovecraft’s continuity.

This is a cool idea that suggests that morality might have some of the same objective qualities as science. As a race we have dedicated ourselves to scientific advancement, but we might have neglected the study of morality. Thus leaving ourselves unready to employ all that we now understand scientifically.

This is an interesting idea. Doubly so because there are so many ways it could go. At first I assumed it would be the judeo-christian god, but what if it was not? How would the world react if it turned out there was a god but no one worshiped it? Or if an obscure sect was shown to have a monopoly on divine truth? There are a lot of interesting ways this story could develop and I am excited to see which way it does.
