Ripbrownjr liked The Book of Great and Tiny Things
Since it seems like it should be the obvious comp, let’s talk about why I’m NOT comping Hillbilly Elegy:

This book is about the external forces that shape poverty and drug usage in Appalachia, NOT about blaming people for their own oppression.

The characters in this book are complex and messy, but they are not stereotypes.

I am proud to be from Appalachia and I love the region and its people.

Here’s a list of media to consume instead of Elegy. I hope this book will be on future lists.
