    Hi there friends,

Tony here. I know you haven’t heard from me in a good long while. You may have even completely forgot that you helped crowdfund a book nearly 2 years ago and have yet to see it. For that, I apologize. I assure you that these long delays have been out of my control. And more importantly, NO THIS BOOK HAS NOT BEEN ABANDONED, and YES, IT IS STILL COMING.

    "Why the long silence, Tony?"

Well, frankly, I grew a bit tired and embarrassed of sending updates with no real news to speak of. I’m sure you may have grown tired of it as well, so I figured I’d lay low until I could come back with something real for you.

    "Why the delays?"

Inkshares is a small publishing team with limited resources, and business decisions resulted in my book being put on the back burner for a very long time. It’s been unfortunate and frustrating, but there it is. The plus side is that I’ve had plenty of time to edit and revise. So the book you’ll be receiving is better than the book that would have been published a year ago.

"So what’s going on with the book now?"

As of a few weeks ago, I was assured by the Inkshares team that they should be able to get my book published and into your hands "by the end of summer". I have submitted the updated version of my manuscript to them and am currently waiting to hear back on the next steps of production. The book has been polished with the aid of beta readers, a professional dev editor, and my own neurotic nitpicking. I even added  a bonus prequel short story while I waited. Inkshares will assist with copy editing (sentence structure, punctuation, making sure things make sense, etc), formatting, slapping on the cover art, and it’s off to the printers. Again, hopefully, in an expedited fashion from here on.

"So when exactly is the book coming?"

I wish I had an official date to give you rather than "by the end of summer", but that’s all I got for now. I will let you know as soon as I have more.

    "How about that cover art?"

Not that anyone asked, but I am excited to say the final book artwork is in progress. And if the concepts I’ve seen are any indication, it’s going to be something special. So whether or not you enjoy my writing, you will at least have a very pretty book to display on your shelf. ;)

All right gang, that’s all for now. Thanks again for your patience. I hope to have an official date and/or some art to show next update. See ya!

Dave Barrett liked an update for The Life Engineered

Good day my friends, human or otherwise (I don’t judge),

Oh boy... It’s finally happened. I’ve pulled the trigger on the funding campaign for the sequel to The Life Engineered: Arch-Android. (pre-order now!)

Well, it’s like The Life Engineered, but more and better. The one complaint I got about The Life Engineered that I could never really shake was how the world was intriguing but not fleshed out enough. Good news: that is exactly where Arch-Android is going. Now that I feel more confident as a writer, I feel better equipped to write a longer, more complex book about the Capek and their evolving civilization. Expect more about their universe, new characters and several familiar faces. Check out the details and book trailer (voiced by the amazing Amy Landon, who did the The Life Engineered audiobook) on the campaign page.

Well, obviously you’ll want to pre-order a copy. If you feel like doing more but can’t order a bunch of books, lend your copy of The Life Engineered to a friend and recommend that they check out Arch-Android. Let’s grow the family.

I’ll be sending more of these updates of course, but to really stay on top of events, follow Arch-Android, or join my mailing list at jfdubeau.com/books (scroll all the way down).

      Thanks for your support!

Dave Barrett liked an update for Beyond The Code

        Greetings all my wonderful followers,

I apologise for the long radio silence, but I was working hard making Beyond the Code the best it can be. I’ll be it, it has been a long wait and life has gotten in the way alot more then I would’ve liked, but i finally have some news for you guys. With the help of my great and helpful beta readers and plenty of time slaving over my laptop, I have finished my manuscript and have sent it to Inkshares.

That’s right. Now all i have to do is get some fancy new cover art made and wait for Inkshares to get back to me with the first round of the cover edit. Exciting! Although, I can’t give you all a timeline yet, I will send an update as soon as i hear news from Inkshares.

        Things are HAPPENING!!

Dave Barrett liked an update for Not Afraid of the Fall: 117 days through 38 cities in 15 countries.
          Friends and Family,

We are only two weeks away from the publication date of Not Afraid of the Fall.

I have heard from many of you that you are reading. If you have finished the book, let me know what you think! What were your favorite parts? What were your least favorite parts? I really do want to hear from you and thank you once again for supporting me on this journey.

If you did not receive the E-book in your email and think you should have, please reach out to me as we ran into trouble with a few.

I want to re-extend the invitation to both book launch parties in Chapel Hill, NC and Asheville, NC. At the event I will talk about the book, sign books, answer any questions about the book or our journey, and read some of my favorite chapters!

July 11th FlyLeaf Books from 6:30-8:30pm

          July 13th Malaprop’s Bookstore from 7-8pm

Let me know if you have any questions about the events and I hope you can make one of both!

          Almost there....

Dave Barrett liked an update for The Slave Prince

            MID-YEAR UPDATE

I’m guessing most of you, at this point of time, might’ve completely forgotten about my book. Which is fine by me - a blessing, in fact. However, I don’t want to take your patience for granted. So thank you for waiting. Thank you for understanding. And thank you for, as odd as this might sound, the silence.

Since I’m writing today, you’re probably wondering if there’s good news. Alas, I write this update simply to say I’m still waiting. I submitted my manuscript and all the related documents on March 31st. Since then, I’ve decided to trust that The Slave Prince will start production in its own perfect timing. Silly, I know. What kind of gullible faith is that? However, I choose to believe that the day The Slave Prince is made, is the right day for it to be made. I don’t know when that will be - it could be in 2018 (I hope) - but I believe.

Recently, I wrote a blog post about the perfect timing. It’s sort of my life’s motto (you can read the whole post here: https://jeynagrace.wordpress.com/2017/06/01/the-perfect-timing/). Naturally, I approach this novel with the same mindset. Since it took 3 years to find the right place for The Slave Prince, what’s a few more years? At the end of the day, The Slave Prince is simply a part of my writing journey - it isn’t the finish line.

With all that said, I hope you’ll continue to wait with me. I truly appreciate all you’ve done - supporting the book during the contest, and post-contest with your syndicates (those were such pleasant surprises). I’m looking forward to the day I present you with my book. But until then, believe with me - its perfect time will come.

Dave Barrett liked an update for The Children of the Forest

              So some stuff been’s going.

I know, I know, it’s been a while, and I’m sorry for that. Life has gotten in the way more than I’d like lately. However, progress has been steadily creeping forward on all fronts (at least, as far as this little* book is concerned, I can’t quite say the same for my personal life). Final editing and proof reading / story content is moving smoothly, and I really do believe that this story is something special. I can’t wait for it to finally get into reader’s hands, and hopefully that illustrious moment isn’t too far off.

Another cool tidbit, I have another artist on board. Vanessa Gillings has joined The Children of the Forest, bringing her expertise to bear with some truly wonderful work (a small preview of which can bee seen below!). In the coming days, I’ll be overseeing a massive overhaul of the book’s main page, bringing all content up to date, with new artwork, official synopsis, and even more, so if you’ve been following along, or haven’t really taken a chance to check out the book’s page yet, now’s a great time to catch up on The Children of the Forest ~

Dave Barrett liked an update for A God in the Shed

So it’s come to this... publication day.

To be honest, it snuck up on me. I thought the actual pub date was June 15th. Needless to say, I’m unprepared.

I could bore you with a long text about how important your support has been, but instead, let’s take a quick look at what you were a part of accomplishing, shall we?

                • We published a book. "Wasn’t that the goal?" Absolutely. But publishing a book is a huge deal, especially for the author. Of all the things we’ve done,
                • That book got great early reviews from CriptTV, Fangoria, the creator of Bates Motel and a few others who I had never dreamed of getting the attention of.
                • Our book got optioned by Skydance to be produced by Akiva Goldsman. This is huge! (not automatic-tv-show-huge, but huge nonetheless) I’ve never even considered television as a medium for A God in the Shed, but obviously, others disagree.
                • A God in the Shed is going to be an audiobook too.

All of that, and probably more in the future, because of Inkshares’ tireless work and your support. I know some of you had even forgotten you’d pre-ordered this book. That’s how long the road has been. Yet, here we are.

                So what’s next?

                • Well, hopefully you read and enjoy A God in the Shed. Perhaps even to review it on Amazon, Goodreads and wherever you can leave a review. Write one and copy/paste it everywhere.
                • Get in touch with me on Twitter @jfdubeau and let me know what you thought.
                • Or get on the mailing list for my newsletter at jfdubeau.com/books
                • Brace yourself for my next projects. The Sequel to A God in the Shed is already being written, but in the meantime, why not follow the page for the sequel to The Life Engineered? I’ll be having some announcements regarding that one sooner than you might think.

So that’s it. You guys are amazing and you’ve done something amazing for me. Hopefully there will be so much more in the future and I’d be thrilled if every one of you were there for the ride.

                Thank you. So much.

                JF

THE E-BOOK OF THE HAIDA GWAII LESSON SHOULD BE IN YOUR E-MAIL

Hard copies won’t be out until July 11th but we decided to set the E-books free ahead of the publication date so everyone can have a peek. After all, you’ve been waiting so patiently for so long.

I want to thank you all for making this happen. And of course I want to hear from you. I have been working on this project for two years now and as you can imagine, I am both excited and nervous to hear what my generous supporters think of their investment.

Reviews are a large part of how this industry works; and today individual reviews are as valuable as published reviews. So if you like the book, and are so inclined, take a few minutes to review the book on:

Thanks once again for joining me on this journey and making this project a reality.

                    Hi Everyone!

Just a very quick update now.  Way back when I set up this page I asked people to follow only if they were interested in joining the crowdfunding.  I’ve got 60 followers here, but only about 35 people have preordered.  If you’re interested in supporting the sequel, this would be a great tine to jump on in!

As always, thank you for your support!
