Okay, something you may notice here.

Inkshares is doing the Launchpad Contest with Energy Entertainment again.

https://www.inkshares.com/contests/launch-pad-contest

The second version of It Was In A Coffee Shop, which is linked to above, is my submission to that contest.  I don’t know how it happened, maybe it’s because I don’t know how to internet, but this version of It Was In A Coffee Shop is to be no different than the version of It Was In A Coffee Shop that is currently on Pre-Order.  The second version is just the one I’ve submitted to a contest.  I am still committed to going forward with the pre-order as it stands.  Things may change, as it goes with life, but if you pre-order It Was In A Coffee Shop you will be getting a copy of It Was In A Coffee Shop.

Okay, I need something to help me concentrate.

    Campers!

The Advanced Reader Copies of Sunshine is Forever are slowly going out! So far we have gotten a few really awesome endorsements.

    Here they are:

"Sunshine is Forever is surprisingly relatable. Keeps you on the edge of your seat! Very suspenseful." - Amber Portwood, author of Never Too Late, reality star of Teen Mom OG

"Savagely entertaining. It’s The Bell Jar meets Chuck Palahniuk—Cowan tackles teen angst with his own unforgettable brand of dark humor." - Helena Echlin, author of Gone and co-author of Sparked

"Cowan has the guts to take teen suicide and turn it into a darkly comic page turner in an unexpected camp setting." - Malena Watrous, author ofIf You Follow Me and co-author of Sparked

"Deep, truthful, and raw, Sunshine is Forever is a book that every school library should carry. This is my favorite book so far of 2017." — Dave Barrett, author of It’s All Fun and Games, winner of the Nerdist Collection Contest

"Kyle T. Cowan’s Sunshine is Forever is a powerful examination of teenage angst, sort of a One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest for young Millennials. This is a tough story but it’s also one that’s filled with hope. A wholly impressive debut." - Jason Pomerance, author of Women Like Us

I hope all of you enjoy the book as much as these people have! Look for it August 29th, and please keep urging your friends to preorder a copy!

Don’t forget to mark the book as "To Read" on Goodreads:

Hunter Red liked an update for The Walls are Closing In

It is update time! Thank you to everyone that has followed and ordered so far. To the new followers and readers - welcome to the show!

The Walls are Closing In has presold 448 copies as of this morning, leaving just 302 to go, and 89 days left of the campaign. My calculator informs me that this leaves 3-4 copies per day. Considering that we are only 2 1/2 months in from the original start date, I am optimistic! But, the work is far from over and spreading the word is still greatly appreciated.

Now that the book is taking off, if you would like to reconsider ordering a few more copies and getting your name(or the name of your organization/business) displayed in the back of the book, far be it from me to try and stop you! The following is the acknowledgment page from a recently published Inkshares book (Tears of the Assassin by William Schiele) so that you can see what that would look like:

Currently, I am spending about 3 hours per day spreading the word. I will be beyond thankful to take a much-needed break from twitter and facebook come June, before jumping back in and keeping everyone updated with the production process.

As promised, I have added an audio version of Chapter 1 to the book’s main page. Check it out if you want, or you know, just go back to what you were doing before I interrupted you with this email.

      A few other upcoming perks:

April 13th - Winner of Dystopian Book Bundle announced. If you have not entered yet, you can enter here.

500 Orders - Design revealed for signed postcard, bookmark, or bookplate that will be mailed to all backers (regardless of e-book or paperback purchase) as soon as the campaign ends!

600 Orders - Audio Version of Chapter 2

700 Orders - Audio Version of Chapter 3

750 Orders - Campaign ends, winner of $250 Airbnb gift card announced, and then I collapse into a heap for a day or two.

On the actual book front - in my spare moments I am perfecting the backstory (a never ending process as the news shifts from day to day), but the rest of the manuscript (all but approximately 10 pages) is finely tuned to my liking and ready to hand over to Inkshares for developmental editing as soon as the campaign portion of the programming is complete. I am eager to start the process that will get this book in your hands, so keep in mind that the sooner 750 is met, the sooner the making of the book can begin!

      Until next time!

Hunter Red liked an update for Fae Child

        Dear Readers,

Since my campaign for Fae Child ended, SUCCESSFULLY, I’ve been a little quiet. Part of this is the fact that my family got a cold and then I got it (and still have it) and part has been just hunkering down to type out the last bit of the book. I have it all in my head, I merely need to transcribe it. I have also nailed down the last bits of my character motivations that were bugging me, which has led me to the realization that this could be a trilogy of books. But, of course, first things first.

I have secured an editor to help me polish the manuscript! I am very excited about this, and eager to see how much better the book can become with some professional notes.

Inkshares has also made the decision that they are discontinuing the practice of offering signed books. They fulfilled this in the past by mailing all the books to the author, and then shipping them back to Inkshares HQ for fulfillment. This cost Inkshares a lot of money (not necessarily covered by preorder dollars), and I can understand why they are stopping, but that doesn’t make it any easier for me, or for backers who purchased ’signed paperbacks.’ Unfortunately this means that once Fae Child is in physical form, I will not be sent the books to sign, and when you receive your copies they will not be signed. I am very sorry that this is the case, but there isn’t anything I can do about it.

Of course for backers local to me (Pacific NW) I will certainly sign any book I am within arms length of (even if they’re not mine!), and will probably be having a signing party after the book has been published. I am looking into bookplates, which are stickers with my signature that can be fixed into the book, but of course, first things first.

Thank you all for your continuing support,
        Jane-Holly

p.s. You probably have noticed that the Cover has undergone several transformations. It is certainly closer to it’s ’final form’ but it may change again!

Monday I found out about a theft at my storage unit. There was nothing particularly sensitive or important that was taken, just things that I didn’t currently have a place for. This theft and my reaction to it caused me to reflect about what it is I really wanted and what objects would mean something to me. After some soul searching I came to a conclusion: A house. A place of my own in the world that I could be completely in charge of, and would have the added benefit of being mine. Since I do not currently own my own home, what would be the best method for me to go about obtaining one? Legally of course.

It Was In A Coffee Shop is currently funding on Inkshares. Yes, that is the method I am using to buy my own home, selling books as another source of income. Sure this may not pay off for a while, a long while given how some of the projects on Inkshares have developed, but I have confidence that this will work. At the very least I’m not losing anything in this endeavor. At least this endeavor will cost me less than I lost in the theft at my storage unit.

However, don’t order my book to help out me. Go to the It Was In A Coffee Shop project page on Inkshares. See what’s there, see something that you might find interesting, and order a book you are interested in reading. Don’t buy me, buy the book.

            Yes !!!!

            750 !!!!!!!!

            We made it !!!!!

I wanted to sincerely thank each and every one of you for making it happen! Now it is going to be a real properly published book! For me, it has been an important a project of almost 5 years and it is hard to describe how happy and thankful I am!

The book is finished, so, hopefully, it will not take too long for Inkshares’ story editors, line editors, copy editors, designers and marketers to turn it into the final real deal. I will keep you updated.

Thank you very much again !

Hunter Red liked an update for Rule Britannia

              Hi everyone,

Now that the dust has settled on the first couple of weeks since pre-orders opened, I’ve been turning my attention to trying to drive more traffic to the story page for Rule Britannia. I know I’m treading a well-worn path that a lot of you have taken before me, so I’ve been poking around your updates, social media, forum posts etc to see what has been tried, tested, failed and succeeded at.

I’ve spent my time over the last week or so working on my online presence.  In addition to launching the Facebook fan page for Rule Britannia, I’ve registered a domain name with the intent of setting up an author page (stay tuned). I’ve been trying to get to grips with Twitter, and through Fiverr.com found a consultant who set-up a social media schedule for me to get my head around what to post when, and to where.

All this, and like most of the rest of you, working full-time.  Roll on Easter.

Here’s my pick of the week(ish).

Everything is Normal: The Life and Times of a Soviet Kid By Sergey Grechishkin
"One eventful middle-class childhood behind the Iron Curtain in Soviet Leningrad.  A mix of a fun memoir and social history of the years preceding the collapse of the USSR."

I said in my review of this book that history is written by social historians like Sergey, the sample chapters (which I enjoyed so much I stopped reading because I didn’t want spoilers for the full book), are engaging and full of the little details that pull you into a story and keep you reading.  Sergey’s book has nabbed three syndicate picks, including the coveted Staff Syndicate, and as of today, is tantalisingly close to 750 - just 52 more pre-orders needed.

              ’till next time,
              Helen.

Welcome to new followers, and greetings to those who have faithfully stuck with me for awhile. I have some glorious news! 384 copies of The Walls are Closing In have been presold, which slides us over the 50% mark! This leaves 366 copies to go!

I am working on an audio version of Chapter 1 to be released once the 400 order target is met - likely sometime in the next week.

That is not all on the exciting news front! In addition to the dystopian book bundle giveaway that I am running to help spread the word, I have also decided to offer a raffle specifically for those who place a preorder. I will be raffling off a $250 gift card for Airbnb as soon as the 750 order mark is met. Everyone who has already ordered has automatically been entered!

So, for $10, folks can support an emerging author, and enter for the chance to win a $250 Airbnb gift card. Please tell your family, friends, and random strangers you pass on the street.

In the meantime, check out these other great books currently on Inkshares.
